Chapter 49

FRANKIE'S POV
I had always dreaded hearing Luke's voice everyday of my life in school but this day, I was so glad he had bumped into me. The look on his face was priceless as he looked Jay Harley from his head to his feet, recognition lit up his features and I couldn't help the smile that lit up my own features. Priceless I tell you, it was priceless.
Jay extended a hand, 'You must be Luke, it's nice to meet you" his smile said otherwise but Luke was too surprised to even notice. His hand stayed rigid at his side as Jay leaned closer, lifted it up and shook it.
Stacey's brown eyes met my blue eyes as I looked past Luke and noticed they had been hovering over her in my place. She gave me a small smile as her eyes went from me to Jay, I had also kept Jay's visit to the school a secret from her too but it didn't look like she was upset, it was the opposite actually.
Luke was such a jerk and he deserved whatever he had coming no doubt but I couldn't help the strong wave of anxiety that was threatening to grip me as I watched the exchange between him and Jay, spellbound just like every child in the cafeteria.
Jay smiled again, 'What's up son, I heard you never go a minute without talking. Cat's got your tongue?" Someone giggled from somewhere in the cafeteria and the other children joined in, it wasn't long before the cafeteria exploded with different types of loud laughter.
Luke looked like he was about to pee himself and I knew at that moment, I had gotten my revenge. And oh how sweet it was. I was still contemplating on what to say to Luke now that I had Jay's backing when Luke spoke up for the first time since we met,
'Don't get all excited, Freak. We both know he's doing this out of pity, besides, how do you even know Jay Harley? You're pathetic, Swift" his menacing voice was back and I felt myself sinking into an imaginary quicksand. Was he right? Did Jay Harley follow me to school out of pity?
Jay scoffed, turning Luke and everyone else's attention back to him, 'Did you ask what our relationship was?" He raised an eyebrow at Luke who nodded profusely. Stacey and I exchanged looks as we both dragged deep breaths.
'He's my godson" Jay said drawing me closer to himself, ' You see, Frankie is the coolest kid I know and those of you" he looked from one bully to the other, 'That thinks he is not worthy of being part of the so called popular kids don't know what being cool means"
Stacey had given me a hug after the bullies had cleared out, unable to contain her joy. Whatever Jay had said to Principal Sterling after I left the office had worked like a charm because, upon my return to the office, I had been acquitted of the charges placed against me and expulsion wasn't an option anymore. I got detention though, but that was it.
After Jay left, Stacey and I sat in the cafeteria longer than we usually did, talking about everything that had happened. From the dare, to trying to keep it from my mum and failing woefully, to attending the principal's meeting with Jay instead of my mum.
I somehow felt Stacey was upset that I had kept that part from her but it was unusual of her, so when she said she wasn't, I just accepted it. Stacey Duke almost never got upset, she was as much of a control freak like my mum and I don't know if I liked it or not.
'I'm glad everything turned out well, I just hope you learn from all this and not try something as stupid as that again" Stacey said breaking the silence that had been going on for minutes. I had initially thought something was wrong but I was sure at that point, with the way she had acted. I wasn't given a chance to make further enquiry regarding her mood, because she stood up and walked out of the cafeteria.
My first instinct was to follow her but I was enjoying the looks I was getting and I wanted to savor it a little longer. No one had ever seen Luke Clinton be humiliated the way he was when Jay had confronted him. Even better than been embarrassed, I had seen the one person that was an expert at instilling fear into people, scared out of his mind.
Jay had admitted something that gave us the victory of the match, 'Do you know something crazy?" He had asked Luke who stood still staring at the ex basketball captain.
'When I was younger, as young as my godson here" Jay had placed a hand on my shoulder, 'I used to take up crazy dares like this and it wasn't the fact that I wanted to prove silly kids like you wrong," Luke flinched as Jay pressed a finger to his chest.
He shook his head slightly, 'No, it's because I wanted to prove to the other kids that were being bullied that you guys, the bullies were nothing but loads of shit who were mainly cowards and dullards" It was crazy how he kept on that innocent smile while he drilled Luke and his buddies dry.
The bullies had cleared out of the restaurant after that and a high-five coupled with a very warm bro hug had been our way of celebrating our little but big victory. I knew there was a chance Luke would be back for revenge but i was going to be ready, I was Jay Harley's godson anyways.
Jay Harley's godson? I have never been so happy to be associated with anyone in my entire life. I couldn't help but think about how nice my life would have been if Jay Harley was our father, it was impossible, I knew that but what is a child without his ability to dream?
