Chapter 53
FRANKIE'S POV
The car horn sounded different as I stood up from where I had been sitting with Danny, Maddie and Ken Jr. Stacey was with was too but she sat so far away you would think we had had a fight. Well, something had definitely happened, something weird.
Maddie raced to the car as soon as the person pulled up in front of us, it most definitely wasn't Jay but it was a close follow, I guess. Danny followed afterwards and I dragged a deep breath as I went too.
Daniel Fletcher was your typical playboy back in the days, according to Aunt Mel and apparently, not much had changed about him. He still kept gum in his mouth as he drove and still played deafening loud music.
"Hey kids, do you want a ride?" Daniel Fletcher asked with his attention directed at Danny who had a smile on his face. They had both established a weird connection due to the fact that they both had the same name. This was exactly one of the main reasons why women never ever took men seriously.
Danny answered for all of us, "Did our mum ask you to pick us up?" I looked from him to Daniel, it would have been nice if Jay had come to pick us up by himself.
Daniel flashed us a million dollar smile, "Something like that, it is also because I am in the area. Can we go?" He asked dismissing the unsaid questions we had, obviously tired of the looks we were giving him.
Danny sat in the front with him as the rest of us shuffling into the backseat. Mum had said she was going to pick the Dukes up too so they joined Maddie and I in the back. Stacey's eyes met mine and she quickly averted them, avoiding something doesn't make it go away, I wished she knew that.
My mind went back to the altercation with Luke after the first one with Jay Harley. Stacey had walked out of the cafeteria visibly upset about something but I didn't really pay much attention to it, Stacey's moods were as predictable as weather. The forecast was mostly never correct but sometimes it was so accurate, you'd think the weather people controlled the climate.
I wasn't surprised to find Luke countering Stacey, what was surprising was how fast it had taken him to get past the humiliation Jay had caused him at the cafeteria. Bullies really didn't stay down for long, Luke was a living testimony of that fact and it made me sick to the stomach just thinking about it.
I had seen how much Stacey protected her journal so it pissed me off to see Luke going through it and then, Damian, that twart had even gone as far as smacking her on her head. Rage had blinded me and I had responded without thinking, I wouldn't lie and say it didn't feel good to hit Damian, it had felt otherworldly.
Having someone as Jay Harley vouch for you was solid ground and it was exactly what had ended up saving me for the second time in one day. Luke had been taken to the principal's office for hitting me and Damian had ended up being suspended for hitting a girl. See, it all worked out, it was bound to, I was Jay's godson anyways.
Maddie and Stacey were whispering about something but I couldn't make out what they were talking about. My first instinct was to tell Ken Jr who was seated next to them to eavesdrop on their conversation but I decided against it, it was best I didn't know. It would save me less worrying and wondering.
There was a chance she was talking about the kiss that had happened between us, I couldn't exactly get my mind off it. Yes, in my entire 10 years of being on this earth, I would never had foreseen that happening but it had. Knights usually got some sort of appreciation for their good deed right? Maybe that was what the kiss was, or was it something else?
I wasn't even given a chance to react cause the moment she kissed me, she turned and raced out of the hallway. What led to the kiss? The bullies, of course. Stacey had tucked her journal into her bag after Luke threw it to her then moving to direct his attention towards me.
I had answered the million dollar question, "Are you and Duke an item?" Luke had asked with the first thing that came to mind without thinking about the repercussions.
"Yes, we are. Do you have a problem with that?" The look on Luke's face was almost as perfect as the one he had back at the cafeteria when Jay had confronted him but this time around, he didn't walk out in shame. I had no regrets about my answer though, since it wasn't too far from the truth.
My hand unconsciously went to the bruise that had formed by the blow Luke had thrown at me and I winced. I had thrown the first punch at Damian but Principal Sterling had termed it self defense and i had no objections. It really was self defense, the giant twart had smacked Stacey across the head, again, after I answered their question.
Two punches had followed the one I threw first but it didn't matter, I was satisfied with what I had done. Besides, the whole fight had earned me a kiss from the girl I had been crazy about for over a year. Who said fate didn't work in people's favor? Fate had done her part, I had to do mine by convincing her the feeling was mutual and the kiss was no where near a mistake.
