Chapter 33
JAY'S POV
'Hurry up and get the vases"
'Did you clean the shelves?"
'What are you guys doing?! Get everything in place on time"
'Don't fucking drop that box there, are you daft?!"
'Do you think it's right to come to work at the fucking time you got here?!" My attention centered on that last question cause it came the exact moment I walked into the office with Noah in toll.
The whole office was a mess coupled with a huge jumble of different people as Noah and I walked in that morning. Saturdays usually were my days off back at California but for some absurd reason, my mum had dragged me out of my bed before I even got the chance to wake up properly, to work on a Saturday morning.
Not only had she instructed me to leave the house as early as 7, she had insisted I wore a suit and dreadfully, a stupid blue tie. Being the CEO of our own company gave some advantages which included, no stupid suits and ties!
I was still sulking and brooding over the entire situation in the office when Davis emerged straight from the center of the chaos with his signature million dollar smile. Salutations followed almost immediately,
'Good morning, Mr Harley" Davis shook my head, nodded at Noah, 'Noah" and then turned his attention solely to me, 'I'm so glad you could make it this morning" he cooed, wearing that same smile that was beginning to piss me off, little by little.
He went on without skipping a beat, 'Forgive the mess Sir, we were just trying to get the office in order for your arrival but Luke" he turned his attention towards a man that stood at the corner with his head bowed low.
Luke really did look like a dimwit and I was getting impatient so I raised my hand in dismissal but Davis misinterpreted the whole thing and started a series of apologies.
'I'm so sorry, Mr H" Davis gave me a huge smile, 'Can I call you that?" He asked switching his tone, Always the asskisser. I waved again as a form for dismissal but as expected, he misinterpreted the gesture.
Noah interrupted Davis's bonding session with information I honestly wasn't interested in hearing, 'You're supposed to go for a date with Miss James tonight, I'll come pick you up. Have a nice day Jay" he gave a slight bow and he was gone.
Eve James was finally getting what she wanted and I wasn't left with any options. I know my mum, if she had other choices, I wouldn't have to put with Eve's nonsense. David flashed me another of his smiles as he left the office.
Now that I was finally alone, it didn't take long for my mind to drift to Amber Swift and her adorable blue eyed triplets. The decade anniversary reunion had turned out differently from what everyone had expected, me most especially.
Firstly, Daniel had ditched me for alcohol defying not only the bro code but the code of the basketball team, 'No man left behind". Then I had finally gotten around to seeing the ex cheer captain get publicly humiliated by the woman I was told I would be getting married to in about two months.
Davis had placed over ten different documents on the desk just before he left. The documents contained every single detail about the company in Los Angeles and I was supposed to be caught up by the time of the handing over but I knew I wasn't interested in any of that.
I had other things on my mind when I left my company in Ken Duke's hands and traveled to Los Angeles for the reunion. As the only legitimate son of the Harley's fortune, I had lots of proving to do along with establishing myself in a company I was supposed to inherit naturally but somehow still needed to show them I was capable of doing the same thing I had done with my own company back at California.
A knock on the door aided in taking my mind away from the cool breeze of California where it had unconsciously wandered to, back to the pile of folders in front of me. Without waiting for as much as a 'come in" from me, Davis bounced into the office with more files tucked in his hands.
I sighed in exasperation as he addressed me with the newly assigned name,
'Mr H, there's a whole lot of files to go through but it would all be easier if you had an assistant" he pointed out and I couldn't agree more. Back in California, Ken was my assistant and he handled most of the stuff around the office both in my presence and absence.
'I could help you rule out capable candidates while you take care of the interviews" Davis offered. Hiring an assistant didn't seem like a bad idea but there wasn't anyone that came to mind and I also wasn't sure I wanted Davis to pick candidates for me to choose from.
I mustered up my most sincere smile ever as I answered Davis, 'Give me some time to think about it, I don't know if I'm ready to hear anyone yet" I made emphasis on the 'ready" as a form of bait and he took it easily,
'Alright, Mr H, just let me know when you're ready to hire someone. But for now, I'll take care of the little I can" I thanked Davis as he dropped off the files and left. I gave myself a mental note to ask Noah to help me look for capable candidates, like Davis had called them, to employ as my new assistant.
Banners rule the world started playing out of nowhere and I wanted to yell at Noah for interrupting my involuntary information gathering process when I realized Noah wasn't in the room with me and I couldn't find my phone that was playing the song I naturally was obsessed with but wanted to hear anything but it, at the moment.
