Chapter 73

MELISSA'S POV
Daniel Fletcher was a business man, most definitely not a cook but after I finished the bowl of pasta, I realized I might have underestimated the billionaire. If heaven was a dish, the pasta would have been named Heaven and to crown it all up, he made enough for the children and my stand in mother, Amber.
I noticed he had been staring at me for awhile so I asked, 'Is there something you want to say?" Just as if he had been waiting for me to ask, he plunged into it,
'Why didn't you let me beat up that asshole when I had the chance?" I knew he was upset but beating up Ken wasn't the right way to go about it, it was a nice way but it wasn't legal.
I tried to make him see reason, 'There are other ways to handle this situation without resorting to violence" I said as I watched him pack up the food he'd made for everyone.
Daniel wasn't pleased by my response but he just shrugged and concentrated on what he had been doing. As much as I wanted to hurt Ken as much as he had hurt me, that wasn't a wise approach and besides, what better way to punish him than to leave him with the children he had gone as far as hitting?
'Wasn't that Ken's car?" I heard Amber's voice from the entrance before I turned around and saw her. I couldn't recall telling Amber we were at the restaurant but my bestie was very observant, something like that wouldn't have skipped her notice. Shit
I had been hoping I would have been able to hide Ken's visit from Amber but there was no turning back now, she had seen him or his car rather and knowing my best friend, she wasn't going to let it go easily.
'I asked you a question, Melissa" she appeared in front of me with her bag which meant she had come straight from the store. Why had she even showed up at the wrong time? She had even called me by my full name, hadn't I been scolded enough for one day?
I shrugged slightly, 'It was" that wasn't good enough for Amber but it was the best I could do. Its best you let sleeping dogs lie for as long as you can, it wouldn't do to step on them when you have an injured foot and can't run to save your life. 'He stopped by briefly" I quickly added.
There wasn't much I could do to prevent the storm that was coming, I could set up safety measures though, so it doesn't sweep me off my feet. But it seemed like I would be needing more than a few fronds to stop the flood with the look Amber was giving me as she sat down on one of the chairs opposite where Daniel was cleaning.
After about a few minutes of staring and silence, Amber spoke up, 'Who wants to go first?" It was an odd question because I had stuff I wanted to talk about but I wasn't sure Daniel had anything to say.
Apparently, I was wrong, Daniel had way more than I had expected him to have and as much as it made my heart flutter, it made me upset too. I wasn't a teenager who needed his guidance, I was a married woman who had two kids and who was going to not only divorce her husband but get full custody of the kids.
Amber seemed surprised at Daniel's outburst but it wasn't like it didn't surprise me too, Daniel Fletcher wasn't one to keep his thoughts about something important hidden but even still, blurting out something I had intentions of keeping wasn't the right way to go about it.
Ken's visit to the restaurant was oddly planned, I had replied his text earlier in the morning and we had agreed to meet up at the restaurant. Since I couldn't drive with my injured foot, I had plans of asking Amber to take me to the restaurant. I also didn't want her to find out about what I had planned to do so I was very glad when Daniel volunteered to stay with me and even take me to the restaurant.
It was a planned meeting, yes but the assault wasn't part of the plan. The officer at the station had advised us to call him the moment we come with any form of contact with Ken and I had the intention of doing that but I had to delay the process a bit. Would Amber understand? Absolutely not. That was why I was doing the whole thing behind her back until I wasn't.
'Is that Daniel Fletcher?" Ken had asked after Daniel finally agreed to leave us alone to talk. There had been mentions of a Daniel before in the conversations Amber and I used to have that Ken most definitely must have overheard but his question made me realize he had no idea who the Daniel was.
I had glanced into the restaurant at Daniel attending to a customer and nodded, 'Yes, that's Daniel Fletcher" Ken obviously wasn't thrilled about the answer I had given, maybe he was expecting me to say it was someone else, I couldn't tell. All through the years I had spent with Ken Duke, I could never get around to understanding the man or the way he acted.
He kept on looking at Daniel through the glass door of the restaurant and I couldn't help but smile, it felt good to see Ken actually be jealous of someone. Always acting high and mighty, Ken Duke never acted like he had low self esteem or saw someone as superior to himself. But at that moment, I watched in pure ecstasy as my husband's face reflected three emotions I had never seen him display before, Anger(okay, he shows this one a lot) jealousy and fear.
'You've been sleeping with my boss?!" I knew the slap was coming before it connected with my face.
