DECADE ANNIVERSARY REUNION
*** Hi diary, my brothers are arguing over the silliest things and I'm both irritated and upset at the moment and that's why I'm here. Mum went to the anniversary reunion without me and trust me, I pleaded with her but she left nonetheless. Mothers can be overbearing sometimes you know, well, I don't know if you do but if you didn't, just know they really, really are***
"Stay away from my stuff, Danny!" The typist flipped the screen close as she stood to attend to her annoying brothers. People call having siblings a blessing? Something must terribly be wrong with them.
"Yes, they're alright, Amber. Are you okay? You don't sound okay" Mrs Carol, the seamstress had been told to babysit them and she was on a call with their mum. The typist poked her head through her mum's door where the babysitter was sitting and gave her a little smile and a thumb up to indicate everything was under control. Most of it, actually but the babysitter took her word for it and reassured her mum that they were fine. Phew, crisis averted.
AMBER'S POV
Before I stuffed my phone into my pocket and continued my walk, I looked at the time, 6:45pm. The second party was supposed to start by 4pm but it didn't look like any of that was going to be happening. While I was walking out of the school premises, I noticed some of the people that came for the reunion were either drunk or drinking. Maybe I wasn't the only one that was having a hard life after all.
My mind drifted to Mel and I picked out my phone and dialed her number, it went straight to voicemail which made me worrier. The Mel I knew 10 years ago would have been capable of bailing out on me to hang out with a random dude, she had done it before but the Mel of now, wasn't that irresponsible. I had a feeling something was up with her but my mind was too clouded to dwell on it.
Amongst other things that had changed in Oxford Oaks, the waterline area was one of them. It looked way different than it used to years ago and I wondered how long it had been since I last came to the hideout as I sat down at the edge with my feet dangling over it.
My mum's words came to my mind as I pushed myself over the edge of the river, "It would be best you just die and save everyone the trouble of having you in their lives" She was right after all and this was the perfect spot to end it all, the place it all began.
JAY'S POV
The road to the waterline was entirely different from what I remembered and after walking for almost 10 minutes, I realized I was lost. Peter had introduced the waterline area as his "hideout" and with his permission, I had slowly turned it to mine. I could remember going there after a tough game or after a fight with my dad, it was like a safe haven for me and it really did help me during my hard times.
But I couldn't remember where exactly my so called safe haven was and it was very upsetting. I was at the verge of giving up when I heard a voice, someone was talking on the phone, most probably and I had a feeling it was Amber. I listened for awhile and when the person mentioned Mel, I knew I was right, it was Amber Swift. I've found her, finally.
As I followed the voice down the opposite path, I realized I had been going around in circles all along. Slowly as I approached the bend leading to the waterline, it all came back to me. After the party at Daniel's on prom night, I had indeed gone to the waterline with someone but I wasn't sure who it was.
Daniel had mentioned something about me leaving the party that night with Amber but it was very unlikely because I had never had a conversation with Amber Swift before that night. Melissa would have been believable and even understandable because I was in a relationship with her before I left Los Angeles.
I was still racking my brain to remember who I had gone to the waterline with that night when I saw Amber sitting on the edge of the water. She looked very calm I breathed a sigh of relief but it was a type of calmness that worried me. I approached her quietly in other to not spook her but as I got closer enough to see her face, she plunged into the river.
