DECADE ANNIVERSARY REUNION
GOAL: MAKE SURE MUM DOESN'T CHICKEN OUT AND SHE ACTUALLY GOES
ULTIMATE GOAL: UNCOVER MUM'S SECRETS AND FIND DAD
CURRENT GOAL: HELP MUM NOT GET A PANIC ATTACK SO SHE CAN ACTUALLY LEAVE THE HOUSE.
The typist sighed as she tried to drown out the noises that were coming from the room upstairs. There was a way to get ready but still avoid all the noises that her mum and her best friend were making at the moment.
*Dear diary, today is the reunion and mum is absolutely freaking out. I want to try to reassure her that everything would be okay but I have no idea why I should be doing that in the first place. My mum can be pretty confusing sometimes you know, one moment she wants to attend the reunion cause she misses her friends and the next moment, she's dreading it like she's going to have to meet her biggest obstacle over there. I hope she gets her sh*t together and actually go, a lot on things depended on today. A whole lot of things*
AMBER'S POV
"I thought you fit into this yesterday, why is it this tight now?" Mel groaned as she struggled to drag up the zipper of my cheerleader uniform.
"I've been stress eating" I sighed as I tucked my tummy in as she had requested. I could have sworn the dress was going to fit. Mel had spent hours amending and reshaping and now it seemed like we were back at square one all over again.
"What the hell do you mean by stress eating?" She cast me an angry glare and i murmured apologies but it seemed I wasn't redeemable unless the uniform could somehow fit.
I made an attempt to defend myself, "there's just been a lot of things on my mind and then the kids, they...."
"Don't blame us, mum. You're the one that has been working yourself up over something that wasn't going to last till nighttime" Maddie argued as she walked into the room. The look on her face was enough to let me know we had disturbed whatever she had been doing.
"I'm so honey, did we disturb you?" I asked the obvious but my baby had always been patient with me as she smiled at me instead,
"No, it's fine. Getting you ready seems more exciting than what I have been doing anyways" I was grateful to God for giving me understanding children, well, mostly. Things were Frankie were just entirely different from the way they used to be when he was a kid. He wasn't even a teenager yet but he was this rebellious, I knew I would have my hands full when puberty finally decided to show up.
"Yessss!!!!" Mel screamed as the zip slid up, the uniform had fit. She gave Maddie a high five as they turned me around to access what they had done. I was too anxious to join in their celebration, it was almost 11. The decade anniversary reunion was going to be starting in an hour and my nerves were racking.
JAY'S POV
"Are we going to be picking Mr Fletcher up?" Noah asked as he set my basketball uniform on the bed. I was in the bathroom, it was finally the day of the decade anniversary reunion.
"He said something about meeting me there but I know Daniel and he never goes early to anything" I yelled out to him and I heard him chuckle. I wasn't lying though, Daniel Fletcher never went early to anything at all.
"Why did you stop playing basketball?" Noah asked as I got out of the shower. There wasn't an actual reason why, maybe I just lost the feeling. I wasn't sure but I answered him anyway,
"I grew up and realize I was supposed to do something else with my life" Noah scoffed but I ignored it, I've been ignoring him alot these days.
"People have careers in basketball ball you know. Ever heard of LeBron James?" He shot me a smile to show he was teasing but I wasn't going to dwell on any of it. The reason I had left California was finally here and I didn't want anything to ruin it.
I decided I also wasn't going to dwell on what Pauline had said the previous night about my relationship with Amber Swift. It seemed like there was something people knew about us that I didn't know and it bothered me a whole lot. I might have messed up 10 years ago at the after prom party by drinking but I wasn't going to let history repeat itself. This time around, I was going to stay away from alcohol and get to the bottom of whatever might have happened between Amber and myself.
Peter and Pauline were already dressed and ready to go when I went downstairs. Back in highschool, Peter was a member if the basketball team and Pauline was well, Pauline but with less attitude and less pride. Peter had on his basketball uniform and it wasn't surprising to find Pauline dressed in a stiff black dress, what was surprising was the fact that she had exceeded my expectations and gone ahead to take extra time with her appearance.
Mum came down the stairs as I was getting ready to leave, she looked me over and smiled,
"I've forgotten how good you used to look in your uniform, my handsome basket baller" She kissed my cheek and Pauline snickered and I shot her daggers.
"Mum, I'm not a child. Stop embarrassing" I protested but it made her shower me with more kisses. It did feel good though, it was nice to be getting attention different from the ones from girls who wanted me to give them more than the initial amount we had agreed on.
I had finally freed myself from my mum's grip when someone appeared at the door, grinning from ear to ear. I looked at mum and she shrugged but I knew it was all an act. She had invited someone else to accompany me to the party, Oxford Oaks' Valedictorian, Eve James.
