Chapter 89

JAY'S POV
Huge streams of light evaded the room as the curtains swung open with so much intensity I wondered if it had lost some strings in the process. Noah's face was the first time I saw as my eye lids fluttered open. What a great way to start my day.
'Rise and shine, sleepyhead" his sing song voice sounded as if he had used a trumpet to blast straight into my head. I groaned inaudibly as I used the pillows and the blankets on the bed as a form of shield to cover my face and then I switched sides to where the light hadn't gotten to.
'You're going to be late for work, Sir" Noah said excitedly as he swung the curtains all out including where I had moved to. I had no idea what would be making him happy so early in the morning and I really didn't care. I had a tiring yesterday and I wanted to just lay in bed and waste the day away while I filled my head with thoughts of Amber and our kiss.
I heard the door creak open slowly as my mother's voice filled the room, 'Today is a big day for you, Jay bear. You have to get up and get going. You can not afford to be late, absolutely not" she said pointedly as she yanked both the pillows and blankets off my head. How had she gotten to the bedside so fast?
'Mum, can't I sleep for an hour more?" I groaned loudly this time as I strained to cover my head again. I knew I wasn't supposed to be whining, I was a grown ass man but I needed to rest more. My body didn't seem like it would obey any command my brain was ready to send out to it.
I heard her click her tongue twice, 'No can do, baby. Today is the preview of your big day and you have to be there, early" she said with a strain as she emphasized on the ‘early'.
'Okay, fine. Go away, I'll get ready" I moaned out as I slid slowly off the bed. Turning towards Noah who was sitting standing next to the curtains, 'The get away had you included in it, devoted butler" I said with a pure look of evil in my eyes. I sure was going to repay him for what he had done to me.
Noah's smile crawled up my skin as he gave me a slight bow and exited the room. Another groan escaped my lips as I waddled into the bathroom. People that usually said the rich lived a life of luxury and relaxation, should better still, be stoned to death. Wealth came with way too much responsibilities.
'Can you make a pitstop at Alfred's? I need coffee" I said as I leaned lower into the backseat. For some unknown reason, I just couldn't get my body to wake up, my mind wasn't complying either. Oh, how badly I had wanted to wrap Amber Swift in my arms and cuddle her to sleep. Wishes are like horses, they say.
Noah insisted he wanted to stay back at the car so I left him, besides, I wasn't exactly thrilled with him for joining forces my mum to ruin my beauty sleep. Butlers always acted like you weren't the one who employed them to do their jobs. Was it necessary to go the extra mile in their service?
'Two cups of coffee please" I said to the girl at the counter as it got to my turn. She gave me a polite smile which I returned. Maybe it wasn't such a bad day after all, I thought.
'How do you like your coffee, sir?" The girl asked still wearing the smile. It was looking a little different from the first time so I turned around to see what was making her smile and came face to face with one of my problems.
'Hello, brother. Its destiny, how we end up meeting ourselves here of all places" Peter irritatingly cheerful voice rang out in his own annoying way of greeting. I doubt it was destiny though.
I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes, 'Hi, peter. It really is destiny's way of messing with me" I answered stiffly as I turned my attention back to the girl. 'Black with sugar and maybe some doughnuts?"
The girl blushed heavily, nodded and went ahead to prepare my order. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of looks Peter was giving her to make her react the way she was but knowing my flirtatious brother, it was something the worker liked.
Handing my order to me, the attendant completely shifted her attention to Peter. It didn't matter to me though, I wasn't in need of any form of attention. Ironic, right? I had almost gotten to the door when Peter called out to me from the counter.
'We should actually go out one of these days, brother. We haven't talked since you got back" his voice had a hint of amusement to it and I shrugged slightly and turned around to give him a slight nod.
'That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Whenever you're free, hit me up" I said a little too stiffly. 'Have a nice day" I directed it to both him and the attendant and I was rewarded with smiles. Peter could be very manipulative but it wasn't my problem to deal with.
The look Noah gave me as I closed the car door was enough to inform me that he had seen Peter walk into the Cafe. 'Did he say anything to you?" The question was boldly written on Noah's face but he didn't utter it out. I felt a little bit of gratitude that he had not said anything. I wasn't affected by Peter's demeanor, I just wasn't a fan of talking about the twins.
Just as Noah was about to pull out of the parking lot, there was a slight knock on the window next to me. Sliding down, my eyes connected with Peter's, again.
