Chapter 16
Rudolf's POV
Watching Hannah’s condition made my heart ache. My heart was torn between affection and a desire to be free from the binding relationship. I tried to calm the burning resentment.
“I care about you too. But we have to be honest with ourselves. If we stay in this relationship just because we’re dependent, not because we love each other, then we’re not going to find happiness.”
She nodded but still looked uncertain. “So what should we do now?” she asked softly, her eyes brimming with vulnerability.
“I think we need to give ourselves some time to think. Maybe it’s best if we don’t contact each other for a while,” I replied, trying to remain firm while feeling heavy inside.
The air was cold and my heart was breaking.
I knew this decision would only add to the pain, but it was a necessary step for both of us.
“If that’s what you want, I’ll respect it,” she said softly, but there was longing in her voice. “But I hope you’ll remember that I love you.”
I felt a mixture of feelings—disappointment and sadness, but also hope for a new life that might lead to true happiness. When Hannah left, I knew I had taken the first step toward healing and opening up a chance for something better—absolutely necessary, especially if it meant being with Mikayla.
But by then, my mind was already distracted. Mikayla was still haunting me, and I knew I had to follow my heart to find true happiness.
I tried to find Mikayla at her apartment, hoping to meet her and talk more about our feelings. However, after waiting for a few hours, reality hit home—Mikayla wasn’t there. Even as night fell, when the trip seemed pointless, I knew I should probably go home.
Once I was back on my feet, I felt uneasy as I looked around. On my way home, a pack of wolves gathered at a certain distance caught my eye. My instincts warned me, and fear began to creep up on me. They looked aggressive, and I could feel the tension in the air.
“Excuse me, Alpha. I’m going to hunt for human prey,” one of them said confidently. The sound of it tugged at my heartstrings and created tension between us.
“Why do you think you can coexist with humans if you’re going to do something like this?” I said, trying to show courage in front of them. It might have seemed silly, but I didn’t want to seem weak.
They stared at me, some with sharp, piercing eyes, but one of them, the Alpha, responded to the remark. “We live our lives based on our instincts and needs. You can’t change that.” His voice was deep, and I felt the impact of his presence.
“I understand that we all have needs, but taking things without thinking about the consequences will not bring peace to any of us,” I said, trying to convey logic despite being trapped in a dangerous situation.
I responded, “You must learn that the world is bigger than the limitations you have as humans. If we are faced with starvation, we cannot just stand here and hope that everything will be okay.”
I tried to keep my feelings from flaring up into hatred. I knew that we were all fighting for survival, but there had to be a spirit of mutual respect.
Faced with this situation, I began to feel the tension rising between us. As the wolves whispered to each other, I hoped that we could find a safe way out of this situation.
“We can try to live side by side by respecting each other and understanding each other’s needs,” I said, taking in the moment as a call for unity.
One step forward could be the key to building understanding between humans and wolves. Maybe, if I could communicate with them, there was hope that we could find a way for us to live in harmony, and who knows, it might be a lesson for both of us. But right now, I had to be careful not to get caught in a more dangerous situation.
Deep in my heart, I hoped to find Mikayla and share everything that happened, because this situation could be an important lesson for both of us—about love, struggle, and the possibilities for each other.
A few days later, I couldn’t find Mikayla. I tried to contact her, but all my efforts were in vain. When I asked the landlord, he told me that Mikayla had moved out. “Where did she move to?” the question crossed my mind, adding to my confusion and anxiety.
My hopes of seeing Mikayla were slightly dashed. She left without explanation, and the pain was in my heart. Among all the hardships that came up, one of the worst things was the feeling of losing someone who could make me feel alive again.
After breaking up with Hannah, I felt like I was finally starting to find myself again—and sadly, Mikayla was gone when I needed it most. I still searched for her, determined to find answers to all the questions that plagued my mind.
My heart was pounding, and my curiosity grew as I passed by all the places that might have been her memories, places where we had been together.
I asked a few friends who might know where she was, but each time the answers I received only added to my confusion.
As the days went by, I felt Mikayla’s presence slipping away. There was a desire to remember all the memories we had, but also the knowledge that she wasn’t there to share them. Every corner of this city reminded me of her smile, the way she comforted me, and the precious moments we had shared.
Finally, almost desperate, I decided to look further for clues.
I tried to scour social media and communities where Mikayla might be connected, hoping to find some information about her whereabouts. In my search, I realized how deeply I felt for him—and how this loss had a much bigger impact than I expected.
“I will find her,” I told myself, determined not to give up. Mikayla was the one who had given me hope, and I was sure that she was still there, just waiting to be found again.
