Chapter 90

Mikayla's POV
“Emma, honey…,” I called softly, trying to get closer to her. “Mommy is here. Try to wake up, tell me how you feel.”
Emma looked at me with her eyes full of fear. “Mommy, I… I don’t feel good. It feels weird,” she answered in a small voice as she shivered even harder.
I tried to stay calm, trying to understand what was happening to her. “This might be part of the same process as your father. But we have to get through it, okay?”
I tried to give Emma a warm hug to calm her down. “It’s okay, honey. Mommy will help you. We can get through this together.”
As I hugged her, I also tried to do comforting things—wrapping her in a thick blanket and putting a warm compress on her forehead. “We have to call your father to help you. He knows more about this.”
Emma nodded slowly, though she looked very weak. “But mom, I’m scared… Am I going to be like dad?” she said, clearly feeling deep anxiety.
“Mommy will make sure you’re safe. We’ll get through this together. Remember, this is just part of our journey. You’re strong, just like your dad,” I said, trying to instill confidence in her.
Quickly, I grabbed my phone and called Rudolf. “Rudolf, please come home soon! Emma has a fever and is showing strange symptoms. She’s shivering and… looks like she’s part werewolf. I need your help with this!”
After hanging up, I sat back down beside Emma, holding her hand. “We can get through this, honey. We just have to stay calm.”
Not long after, Rudolf finally came home. As soon as he saw Emma’s condition, his facial expression immediately changed to one of concern. He immediately approached and observed our daughter who looked weak and shivering on the bed.
“Emma, honey, daddy’s here,” Rudolf said softly, emphasizing his tone to be calming. He knelt down beside the bed and stroked Emma’s hair gently. “I know you’re feeling unwell. But you don’t need to worry too much.”
Rudolf then explained at length about what might be happening. “You might be going through the same process as I did. It’s common for our family members—if you’re a werewolf, sometimes your body needs time to adjust to the changes, and that can cause symptoms like fever.”
I listened intently, feeling the calmness wash over us again. My worry eased a little as Rudolf explained that this was part of the process Emma had to go through.
“At least you’re not alone, Emma. Dad went through it too, and it’s going to be okay,” Rudolf continued, his eyes on our daughter with affection. “You just have to hold on a little longer, and I’ll help you through this.”
I nodded, trying to reassure her that this was all under control. “Yes, honey. Mommy will be here by your side. We’ll get through this together. Maybe Daddy can help you ease the symptoms.”
Emma seemed to calm down a little more at the sound of her father’s voice. Rudolf then gave her some suggestions to calm her body, like taking a warm bath and encouraging her to get more rest.
“Let’s try this, Emma?” Rudolf said gently. “We can change the temperature of the room to make it more comfortable, and mom can bring you some warm water.”
This moment further bonded us as parents, especially as we struggled with all the new changes. And deep down, I am grateful to have a partner as strong as Rudolf who can always calm me and our children in difficult situations like this.
That night, I stayed by Emma’s bedside the entire night. She was uncomfortable sleeping alone and clearly needed support and affection as she adjusted to her new condition. Seeing her shiver and wake up a few times made my heart flutter.
Every time she felt uncomfortable, I tried to comfort her. “We’ll get through this together, honey. Mommy’s here, you’re not alone,” I said softly, stroking her hair and trying to create a calming atmosphere.
Our babysitter also looked scared and anxious. She wasn’t sure how to act in this situation, and I could sense her worry. After explaining Emma’s situation to her, I wanted to make sure she didn’t feel uneasy.
“Look, this isn’t something to be afraid of,” I told her calmly. “Emma’s here with us, and we’ll take care of her. She just needs a little time to adjust to her new condition.”
The babysitter nodded slowly, but I could see that she still wasn’t completely convinced. “But what if something goes wrong?” she asked, clearly feeling the weight of this responsibility.
“Trust me, we will monitor everything and do our best for Emma,” I replied, trying to be calm in her eyes. “If something goes wrong, we will all know and can seek help. She just needs to feel our presence and know that we are here for her.”
With my explanation, the babysitter looked a little more at ease, although there was still doubt on her face. “Okay, thank you, Mikayla. I will do my best to help,” she said in a more enthusiastic tone.
As the night wore on, I tried to meet Emma’s every need, comforting her and reassuring her that everything would be okay. The anxiety that had previously plagued my mind began to subside, and I felt the strength in our togetherness as a family.
I tried to stay calm and positive, making the atmosphere comfortable for Emma. “You are strong, honey. We will sleep well and tomorrow will feel better,” I said, hoping to instill confidence in her.
Slowly, Emma began to fall asleep, and I could feel calmer.
The next morning, I woke up with renewed vigor. Beside me, I saw that Emma was getting better. She no longer had a fever and looked normal as usual. Her face was shining brightly, and she was even active again, jogging around the house while asking me questions about various things.
“Oh mom, can we play after breakfast?” Emma asked excitedly, her face full of hope. It was so nice to see her back like before, making me smile.
