Chapter 47

Mikayla's POV
Hearing his answer made me feel relieved. Even though he sometimes didn’t show his concern, I knew that this was an important step towards recovery and better health.
“Good, Rudolf. Make sure you don’t forget to bring all the necessary documents,” I said, wanting to make sure that he was ready.
“Don’t worry, honey. I’ve prepared everything. I know how important this is for you, and I won’t let you down,” he replied in a confident tone as if he wanted to assure me that everything would be fine.
I smiled at his confidence. “Not just for me, but also for you. I want you to be healthy and strong, Rudolf. Our family needs you,” I said, encouraging him.
Hearing my words, he continued, “I will try my best. Thank you for always supporting me, Mikayla. It means a lot to me.”
His words filled my heart with warmth. We had been through a lot together, and this support was able to form a stronger bond.
“You’re welcome, Rudolf. We complement each other. Now get some rest, you must be tired after a long day,” I said, making him feel more comfortable.
“Yes, I’m going to bed. See you in the morning, honey. May tonight give you a good rest,” he replied, his voice fading along with the calm of the night.
The next day, I accompanied Rudolf to the hospital for therapy. On the way to the treatment room, I felt a mixture of hope and anxiety. As I waited in front of the therapy room, I suddenly saw a woman who had stared sharply at me yesterday.
My smile slowly faded as I realized who it was. It was Rudolf’s ex-girlfriend, though I didn’t know her name. There was an air of hostility surrounding her, and I could feel the tension in the air.
Before I could say or do anything, she stepped forward and slapped me quickly across the cheek. The sharp pain came instantly, startling me into silence.
“I knew you were the thing that was getting in the way of me and Rudolf! He shouldn’t be with you!” she said in an angry tone, and I could see how much emotion was pent up inside her.
In a state of confusion, I tried to stay calm. Every word she said was filled with hatred and dissatisfaction. I felt betrayed but also confused by what had just happened.
“What do you want? I’m only here to support Rudolf,” I said in a shaky voice, trying to convey that I didn’t want to get involved in this fight. “We don’t need to have problems here.”
“Problems? We shouldn’t have problems, but you’ve taken all my memories and hopes from me!” she shouted, and I could feel the anger oozing out of her.
The pain in my cheek hadn’t fully subsided when I realized how careful I needed to be. This wasn’t something I wanted to escalate, but I couldn’t let her slap me and feel like she was letting go.
“I’m not here to ruin your memories or your past relationship. Just because you were with Rudolf doesn’t mean I can’t love him in a different way. He and I have a different relationship; maybe it’s time for us to move on,” I replied firmly, refusing to let any weakness get to me.
She paused for a moment, seemingly surprised by my reaction and my boldness. At the same time, I found myself struggling to maintain my composure and plasticity in front of her. I wanted to show her that I wasn’t someone who was easily intimidated.
“If you’re going to argue, it’s best not to do it here. Rudolf needs our support,” I said firmly. I hoped my words would bring her back to reality and make her realize that we were just on different paths.
The woman was still staring at me, and her gaze was filled with undeniable anger. I didn’t expect her to be so bold as to confront me directly. Every word she said was like a bullet, and I could feel the tension between us.
“You’re just a whore; somehow, you gave Rudolf fake love,” she accused in a harsh tone. Her words seemed to penetrate my soul, making me feel attacked and cornered.
I was momentarily stunned. The pain of her words rolled through my heart, but I couldn’t let my reaction be influenced by the anger and hatred she was showing. This was no time to back down or show weakness.
“Let me explain something, although I don’t need to prove myself to you,” I replied, trying to keep my tone calm. “I love Rudolf sincerely. The love I offer him is not the fake love you accuse me of—it is a love that grows from the heart and supports each other.”
She grinned sarcastically, as if unable to accept my defense. “Now you dare to talk about love? He is nothing more than a substitute. You don’t know anything about our real relationship. We used to love each other!” she said in her arrogant voice.
My heart trembled to hear that. Even though she spoke in an insulting tone, I knew that I couldn’t let her words destroy me.
“I never tried to take your place, and I won’t ruin the relationship you two had in the past. But I believe that everyone deserves a second chance at life, and Rudolf has his own heart to make a choice,” I said, trying to put things in perspective.
“While you are just a weakling, hoping to change his life,” she responded with a mocking tone.
But through the pain, I felt a new strength rise within me. This time, I wasn’t going to let her control the situation. “I won’t let your words hold me back. If you continue to treat others this way, you will only be seen as someone who can’t move on from the past,” I said, looking her straight in the eye.
She paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback by my response, but I was certain that this conversation wasn’t over. Even though she tried to rebuke me, I felt like I had said what I needed to say.
