Chapter 79

Mikayla's POV
“Mikayla, I hope you are doing well. I want to remind you that no matter what happens, I cherish all the memories we have. This is a reminder of our journey. I hope it can inspire you on the new journey you are on.”
Inside the package was a small, elegant pendant. My heart fluttered—even though we were apart, those beautiful memories would never fade. I felt a mixture of nostalgia and longing for the past, but now I was here with a new life and happiness.
“Yes, things can change,” I muttered to myself, weighing my feelings.
“Who was that from?” Rudolf’s voice startled me as he entered the room.
“Didn’t you leave already?” I asked, surprised to see him back so soon.
“I left something behind,” he replied in a serious tone, his eyes fixed on the package still in my hand.
When Rudolf saw the item, his expression immediately changed. I saw anger flash across his face as he thoughtlessly threw Ethan’s package to the floor.
I was stunned, feeling a mixture of confusion and uncertainty.
“Rudolf…” I blurted out, trying to explain. “It was just a package from my ex. I didn’t know she would send this.”
He looked at me sharply, and I could feel the tension between us. “I don’t like her contacting you. We’ve been through a lot to get here, and there’s no reason to go back to the past,” he replied firmly, though his tone still held concern.
My heart pounded at that.
“But this isn’t about us, Rudolf. It’s just a package containing past memories. I’m with you now, and I’m happy,” I said, trying to explain my condition.
“Those past memories can bring complications. I just want to protect you and keep us strong,” Rudolf replied, albeit a little softly.
“I understand, but I also want you to trust me. The relationship we have now is what matters. We don’t have to worry about anyone in our past,” I said, trying to reassure him that his feelings were nothing to be concerned about.
Rudolf stared at me deeply as if seeking understanding. Finally, after what felt like a long second, he took a deep breath and said, “Okay. I only want what’s best for us. I’ll trust you. But remember, I’ll always be here to protect you.”
A sense of relief washed over me. “Thank you, Rudolf. I love you. We’re here to support each other,” I replied, emphasizing the sincerity of my feelings.
Rudolf’s hands then reached out to cup my face, and softly, he said, “I love you too, Mikayla. Let’s keep moving forward together, without the burden of the past.”
I knew Rudolf was jealous, and I realized it was a symbol of how much he loved me. There was a love so strong that it sometimes made him feel threatened.
After a little chat, Rudolf got ready for the office. Before he left, we stood face to face, and gently, we kissed. I felt a sense of calm and warmth in that moment, as if all my troubles were temporarily forgotten.
“Take care of yourself at home, Mikayla,” he said with genuine concern. There was a hint of worry in his voice, which made me feel so appreciated and loved.
I nodded, trying to reassure him. “I’ll be fine. Take care of yourself at work, too, okay?” I replied, giving him a soft smile.
As he walked away, a sense of gratitude filled my heart. With all the challenges we had faced, our love and support had only grown stronger. I knew that despite the tension of the situation with Ethan, we would get through it together.
After the door closed, I looked back at Ethan’s package on the floor. My curiosity was piqued again, but this time, I took a deep breath and put the package somewhere out of sight.
I had to throw away Ethan’s package. After all, Ethan was just a thing of the past, and even though the gift he gave me was expensive, I didn’t care. More valuable is the love and happiness that Rudolf has given.
When I was near the door, a woman happened to pass by who seemed to be looking for something. Without thinking, I saw the opportunity to give the package to her. "Hey, would you accept this?" I asked with a smile.
She was surprised, but then nodded. "Oh, thank you! I don't mind. I'm glad I can help reduce waste," she said, accepting the package cheerfully.
Seeing her cheerful face made me feel better. After saying goodbye, I went back into the house with a feeling of relief. I didn't want to disturb Rudolf's feelings who had tried to give me happiness and support.
I decided to go shopping at the mall. Some kitchen necessities and I also wanted to buy fresh vegetables and meat. As I walked between the shelves, I chose this and that, feeling the simple happiness of preparing a menu for the family.
But suddenly, I felt someone grab my wrist. "Why did you throw away the things I gave you, Mikayla?" The voice was impressive and familiar, making me turn around to see who it belonged to.
It turned out to be Ethan, my ex-boyfriend. He stood there with a beaming face, but there was tension and disappointment clearly visible.
My heart was pounding; now I was recalling feelings that were probably long gone. “Ethan, I…” I paused for a moment, trying to think of the right words.
“Why don’t you cherish the memories we have?” he asked in a tone full of affirmation, but I could feel the hope in his eyes.
“I already explained! Those are things from the past, and I don’t want to go back to them. I have the life and love I want now,” I said firmly, trying to keep my mood in check.
“But you can cherish them without having to go back to the past,” he replied, a little desperate. “I want you to know that they are not just things.”
