Chapter 61

Rudolf's POV
We waited with anticipation. The tension that had enveloped my heart began to subside, replaced by a deep sense of gratitude. As some nurses began to move Mikayla to the new bed, I felt a little calmer.
“This is a good first step towards her recovery,” I thought. Waiting for a while, I remembered what the children had said earlier and felt determined to show that their mother was getting better.
After the transfer was complete, we finally entered the regular ward. I looked at Mikayla, who was now lying in a new bed. She seemed calmer, and with the machine beside her, I saw a glimmer of hope.
“She’s here, and we’re going to work together to make her comfortable,” I told the kids as we gathered around Mikayla’s bedside.
The children nodded, and we all looked at Mikayla with love. Slowly, we held her hand, speaking softly and hopefully so that she would hear us and feel surrounded by the love of family.
“Rudolf,” Mikayla called me again, and hearing her voice made my heart tremble. Emma and Daniel who were beside me immediately answered, “Mom! We missed you, Mom!” Their hopeful voices made the atmosphere in the treatment room warmer.
I couldn’t deny that my heart was filled with emotion and joy when I saw her back here, even though she was weak. My longing that had been suppressed for so long seemed to burst out suddenly. “Mom is here, honey,” I said lovingly, emphasizing how much we had always waited for her.
I moved closer and kissed her forehead, feeling how warm our bond was despite her very concerning condition. She looked pale and weak, and with all the equipment installed around her, I could see how hard her struggle was.
Mikayla tried to smile, but not completely. “But I’m fine…” she said softly, trying to reassure us, even though it was clear that she was still in the process of recovery.
“Yes, we know you’re strong, Mommy,” Emma replied, gently holding Mikayla’s hand. “We miss all your stories and laughter.”
Daniel added, “Yes, and we’ve drawn a picture for Mommy! We’ll show you when you’re better.” Their words reflected genuine love and gave Mikayla new strength.
I saw a smile appear on her face. “You guys are the reason I get better soon. Thank you for thinking of Mommy,” she said, and my heart felt like it was blooming to hear her try to speak.
Even though she looked weak right now, we would continue to give her all the love and support she needed.
We gathered by her bedside, sharing intimate moments, channeling positive energy to her.
“I’ll always be here for you, and we’ll fight together. We’ll get through this,” I said with determination.
“I had a dream, Rudolf,” Mikayla said, her voice weak but full of meaning.
A deep worry entered my heart. “You should rest first!” I replied, trying to create a calm atmosphere. I didn’t want to burden her mind further. I knew she had been through a very difficult event, and I didn’t want it to burden her thoughts even more.
Watching her struggle to recover was already tiring enough for me. Every second we spent with her was a prayer and hope for her recovery, and I wanted to keep her from feeling burdened by painful memories.
But on the other hand, the shadow of the kidnapping still haunted me. The police had yet to find the perpetrator of Mikayla’s kidnapping. Every time I thought about it, the anger and injustice tickled me even more.
What will happen next? However, now was not the time to discuss that. The most important thing was to make sure Mikayla felt comfortable and calm.
“Tell me about your dream if you want, but if you feel tired, that’s okay. We can talk later,” I said, trying to give her the option to open up or rest.
Mikayla smiled weakly, seemingly struggling to get up a little. “I dreamed about us. We and the kids were together in the park, laughing and playing. Everything seemed bright…” She paused for a moment, seemingly remembering those happy moments.
My heart sank. “It was a beautiful dream, Mommy. We’re going to make it come true again. When you come home, we’re going to bring all the happiness into our lives,” I said, trying to encourage her.
But in the back of my mind, the anxiety about the kidnapper still lingered. I knew I had to do something. Once again, I felt the urge to ensure my family’s safety and bring justice for Mikayla.
As we shared this moment in the infirmary, I was determined to find out who the perpetrator was and hold them accountable for their actions. But for now, I was going to focus on Mikayla’s recovery. We’re going to get through this together, and the best thing I can do now is be there for her, supporting her as she fights to recover.
“As much as I can, Mikayla. We are always with you,” I said lovingly, hoping he could feel the passion and love we put into every word.
“Actually, my dream is not only that, Rudolf,” Mikayla said, her voice trembling but full of meaning.
“What do you mean?” I asked, immediately interested.
“So, I dreamed that I was saved by the Moon Goddess. Only she didn’t show her face to me. I was in her house and had a nice, clean place,” she said, looking at me with slightly sparkling eyes.
Hearing that, I felt a warmth in my heart.
“That sounds beautiful, Mikayla. Do you feel comfortable there?”
She nodded slowly. “Yes, I feel calm. Very different from what I experienced before. But when I felt comfortable, she said, ‘You have to come back to you and our children.’”
Those words made me pause.
I couldn’t ignore the deep feelings that came from her dream story. In her imagination, there was a hope, a sign that she was not alone on this journey, that we were always by her side.
“Mikayla, it was a strong reminder that we are your family. We are always waiting for you, and that’s how it should be,” I said, holding her hand gently. “We will always be with you, no matter what happens. We love you very much.”
