Chapter 59

Rudolf's POV
As the hours passed, a doctor finally emerged from the ICU. He explained that Mikayla was recovering and that they were doing their best to care for her. Although I couldn’t see Mikayla at that moment, I felt relieved knowing that she was in good hands.
“Can you tell me when I can see my wife?” I asked hopefully.
“She’s still under close observation. We’ll let you know as soon as she’s stable enough to be visited,” the doctor replied with a reassuring smile.
“Thank you, Doc. I’ll wait,” I replied, still feeling impatient.
My thoughts about my children reminded me that they needed to know about their mother. I couldn’t wait to give them the good news. But the most important thing now was to make sure Mikayla could come home soon and we could be a family again.
After hearing the news that Mikayla had been found, a mixture of relief and anxiety still enveloped my feelings. However, when I saw several police officers in the hospital area, curiosity and uncertainty made me feel the need to ask.
I walked over to one of the officers who looked serious, “How did you find my wife? Who did this to her, sir?” I asked, my hopes focused on this possibly painful but very important answer.
The officer looked at me with a serious tone. “We received a report from a witness who saw a woman tied up and left in a fairly remote place. When we arrived at the location, we found your wife and immediately took her to the hospital,” he explained.
My heart trembled at the information. “But who did this to her? Do you know?” I asked, my voice starting to shake with worry and anger.
The officer shook his head. “We are still investigating. Some clues were found at the scene, but we have not been able to confirm who did it. We will do our best to find the person responsible for this,” he replied, trying to calm my panicked situation.
Frustration surged inside me. “She is my wife. Whatever happens to her, I will not stay silent. I want to know who did this right away,” I said firmly but anxiously.
“Understand that we are trying to gather information. We will contact you if we find out more. The best thing you can do right now is to be here for her and give her the support she needs as she recovers,” the officer said, trying to be understanding.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. Now was not the time to lose control. “Thank you,” I told them, even as my heart filled with anger and sadness.
After speaking to the police, I returned to my seat outside the ICU, feeling the weight on my shoulders increase. One thing came to mind—I had to protect Mikayla. We had to find whoever wanted her harm and make sure she was never threatened again.
It broke my heart to see the woman I loved, and the one I promised to protect, lying helplessly in an ICU bed. This all happened a few moments after I brought her back to the city, and now, seeing her in this condition, I felt devastated.
With mixed feelings, I decided to tell the kids about their mother. I didn’t want them to feel isolated or out of place. It was all so hard, but they needed to know.
After calling them to come to the hospital, I waited anxiously outside the ICU. When they finally arrived and saw me standing in the doorway, their faces showed uncertainty.
“Dad, where’s Mom?” Emma asked, her voice filled with confusion.
“Mom has been found, honey. She’s inside, but she’s still in the ICU,” I said, trying to sound calm even as my heart was in turmoil.
“Why is Mom in the ICU? Is she okay?” Daniel asked, his voice shaking.
“The doctors are taking care of her, and she’ll be fine. We have to keep praying and supporting her,” I said, trying to encourage them. But deep down, I doubted what I was saying.
Their eyes started to water, and there was nothing more heartbreaking for a father than seeing his children in an emotional state. “We want to see your mother!” exclaimed Emma hopefully.
“Okay, we’ll see you soon. But let’s promise to be calm while we’re here. Mom needs all our love and support,” I tried to reassure them even as my doubts and sadness grew.
We walked forward slowly. As we approached the door of the ICU, the children held my hand tightly, my heartbeat barely audible with the doubt that filled the air.
When we finally entered the ICU, the sight of Mikayla lying on the bed with the monitor watching her shocked me even more. She was so weak, but I could see her beautiful face, even though it was pale and helpless.
“It’s Mom…” Emma whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks, and Daniel held back sobs beside her.
We approached her and I tried to face the reality with all my might. Knowing that their mother was here, lying weak, touched my heart with a deep pain.
“She’ll be okay. Let’s pray for Mom,” I said, trying to comfort the children who loved her so much.
We gathered by her bedside, and with hope in our hearts we prayed for Mikayla to recover soon. We are family, and throughout this journey, I promised to do everything I could to protect and care for them.
Mikayla has been in the ICU for a week, and even though we have tried to provide support, she has not regained consciousness. Every day, my children and I spend time beside her, maintaining a bond with her. We continue to express our love and hope for her by speaking softly, hoping that she can feel it even in her sleep.
In the midst of that moment, Daniel suddenly said, “Dad, you can’t get sick, okay?” His voice was serious, and his eyes were full of concern.
Maybe he felt anxious seeing me here all the time, trying to find the strength to face all of this. The fear of losing and worrying about his mother made him more sensitive.
