Chapter 21

Rudolf's POV
“When we had sex in the hotel for the first time, I saw you with hairy legs,” she explained, her eyes shining with uncertainty.
My emotions immediately surged, and I realized how deep everything I had to say was.
Okay, I decided to explain. “Mikayla, I am a werewolf. Part of me is this creature,” I said, taking a breath to prepare myself for her reaction.
She was silent for a moment, seeming to process everything I had just said. “Does… does that mean you’re not fully human?” she said, her voice almost shaking.
“I am human, but I also have this deeper side. When night falls, the wolf instincts inside me become stronger,” I explained, trying to come up with an adequate explanation. “I can control that side, and my hope is to not let it affect my life, including when I’m with you.”
She bit her lip, contemplating everything I had revealed. “But it’s… it’s strange. Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” she asked, a mixture of confusion and uncertainty.
“Because I didn’t want you to feel pressured or trapped by this complex side of me. All I wanted was to love you and be a part of your life,” I said, honest with my feelings.
She looked down, trying to understand.
“I need some time to process all of this, Rudolf. This is a lot of information to take in,” she replied quietly, looking at me with a mixture of fear and curiosity.
“There’s nothing to worry about. I will be here for you, and no matter what happens, I want us to go through this together,” I offered, trying to convince her that this uncertainty would not destroy our bond.
Every beat of my heart was pounding, hoping that she would accept who I really was. This was the moment of truth, and would the love we had be strong enough to withstand all the complexities of our past?
I decided to drive Mikayla and her two children home. As we walked down the street to her house, I felt a mixture of happiness and sadness. She lived not far from the beach, and the small house stood majestically even though it was only 4 x 4 square meters.
Although the house looked neat and clean, my heart ached to see the conditions they were living in. Why did I only find out about all this now? I should have been here for her, in difficult times like this.
Once we arrived, Mikayla opened the door and invited us in. The room inside was warm and cozy, but I couldn’t deny how cramped their living space was. Emma immediately ran to her toys, while little Daniel, sitting in his stroller, looked around with big, curious eyes.
“Mikayla…” I said, trying to find the right words. “You don’t have to go through this alone. I want to help.” Empathy and love made me want to support them even more.
She looked at me, and there was doubt in her eyes. “What can you do, Rudolf? Life here is not what you imagined. I have to fight for these children and make sure they grow up well,” she replied, her voice full of conviction but also pain.
“Let me help build a better life for you. I don’t care about the size of the house or the hardships. Whatever it takes, I want to be a part of it,” I said, taking her hand gently, bringing comfort in a time of crisis.
Emma and Daniel were part of my life now. Seeing them reminded me of my hope for happiness, not just for myself but for them as well. “One small step can lead to a bigger journey. I want to be here to see them grow,” I added, meaning it.
Mikayla seemed to ponder my words, and little by little, I could see the wisdom in her gaze. “Maybe you can help me by finding a way for me to get a better job. In the meantime, I will try to give my best to them,” she said quietly as if accepting my offer.
Gradually, I planned out the things I could do to help them have a more comfortable life. I knew that with the two of us together, we could face life together and make every day more meaningful.
“Together, we can get through this, Mikayla. I love you and the kids, and I will do everything to prove it,” I said, hoping she could feel my determination.
But Mikayla still seemed reluctant to accept me back. It was probably hard for her to understand the new facts about who I really was and everything that had happened so far. I respected her independence, but I also knew that in this situation, she didn’t need to feel alone.
“How did you get through all this by yourself, Mikayla? What do you do for a living?” I asked, wanting to help her open up and share about her life so far.
She looked at me, seemingly thinking for a moment before answering. “I work part-time at a cafe not far from here. It’s enough to cover my daily needs, but sometimes it’s hard. I have to take care of the kids and work, so I often feel exhausted,” she answered honestly, his tone revealing deep pain.
I nodded, sensing the weight of his burden alone. “Mikayla, you are so strong. But if you feel tired, I am here to help you. Maybe we can find a way to make this easier for you,” I said lovingly.
She sighed, and I could see the glimmer of hope, albeit faintly. “I know you want to help, and I appreciate that. But sometimes, I feel like I don’t deserve it. I have relied on myself too much,” she replied, a hint of doubt in her voice.
“Everyone needs help, Mikayla. There’s nothing wrong with asking for support when things are tough. I will always be here for you and the kids,” I said gently, trying to encourage her.
