Chapter 39

Mikayla's POV
Three days later, Rudolf was finally allowed to go home from the hospital. When I saw him come out with a smile on his face even though his body still looked tired, my heart felt overflowing with happiness. Emma and Daniel immediately ran to him, hugging him enthusiastically. Our happiness was so touching when we were reunited as a family. “We missed you so much, Daddy!” Emma exclaimed cheerfully.
“I missed you too, my love,” Rudolf replied with a laugh, his face glowing with affection and warmth.
“I think we should celebrate your return!” I said excitedly, listening to the laughter of the children surrounding him. However, while the euphoria was still flowing, Rudolf suddenly suggested, “Mikayla, how about we live in the city for a while?”
Immediately, I took a deep breath and thought about all the possibilities. “In the city?” I asked, a little surprised by his suggestion. “What made you want to move?”
Rudolf patted Emma and Daniel’s heads, looking serious. “I want us to get away from everything that’s going on here. Maybe we can focus better without the pressure of being back home by the beach, at least for a while,” he explained.
I responded with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I completely agreed that moving to the city could bring change and distance us from the bitter memories that still lingered. However, on the other hand, moving even temporarily would bring big changes.
“Of course, I want to see you healthy and happy. But what about our life here?” I asked, trying to understand his perspective. “Are you sure it will help? This is our home.”
Rudolf nodded, his eyes full of conviction. “I believe it can give us a chance to start over. We can find a new routine, get away from the things that remind us of the hard times.”
Hearing this, I began to consider further. The city had everything we could possibly need, and it could be a safer place to raise children. We could enjoy activities and have better social interactions.
“Okay. Let’s try, but I want to make sure we’re all comfortable with this decision,” I said, looking at Rudolf and my excited twins.
Rudolf smiled broadly as if the burden of his decision had been lifted. “Thank you, Mikayla. We’re going to do this together as a family. As long as we’re together, whatever happens will be better,” he said, strengthening my decision.
We started to pack our clothes. Well, it wasn’t much because we didn’t have many clothes anyway. Previously, before I got married, I didn’t have enough money to support my two children alone. Now, even though our situation is not ideal, I feel optimistic about exploring this new step.
Rudolf’s POV
Emma and Daniel looked happy as if they were excited about this change. Seeing their cheerful faces warmed my heart. “Come on, let’s go to a new, fun place!” I said, trying to boost my spirits.
While packing, we joked with each other. “Daddy, we can find a new, bigger house, right?” Emma asked with her eyes sparkling with hope.
“Yes, honey. We can find a comfortable and fun place for us to explore,” I replied, inspired by the positive energy of the children. Each smile they gave me made me more confident in this decision.
While we were packing, Daniel started dropping some of his favorite toys into the bag. “Don’t forget this, Daddy! I want to play in the city!” he exclaimed, looking at me confidently.
Deep affection showered my heart. “Of course, honey. Toys are important. We’ll bring the best ones!” I said as I helped put the toys in the bag.
Once we were done packing, I double-checked everything that needed to be brought. Mikayla supervised and helped make sure everything was ready. When everything was done, I took a deep breath, feeling a mixture of excitement and a little bit of anxiety.
“We’re all set,” I said. “Now it’s time to go into town! Let’s go.”
Emma and Daniel cheered, dancing and waving their hands. Not only were our bodies about to move, but also new hopes flowed within us. We packed up and headed to the car, and the whole journey was filled with hope for a better future.
As the car rolled, I saw the children in the rearview mirror. Their faces were full of joy, making all the hardships we had experienced seem to be erased. We were about to start a new adventure, erase all the old memories, and create beautiful moments that would be etched in our memories.
"Ready to explore, my children?" I asked with a big smile.
"Ready, Daddy!" Daniel and Emma shouted at the same time.
Two hours of travel passed, but neither Emma nor Daniel slept. They looked amazed at everything along the way, their eyes sparkling at the new and different sights.
“Mom, look! There’s a tall building!” Emma exclaimed enthusiastically. “What’s that, Mom? Why is it so big?”
Mikayla smiled as she explained, “That’s an office building, honey. Many people work there. The city is full of life and activity.”
Daniel joined in, “If there’s a tall building, it means there are many people, right, Mom?”
“Yes, son. And there are many interesting things we can do here. We can explore the park, go to the playground, and even watch events in the field!” Mikayla replied, encouraging her two children who looked very excited about all these new things.
Finally, after a noisy and laughing journey, we arrived in the city. I felt excited and a little anxious at the same time after this trip. Seeing the bustling city with its noise, crowds, and colors created a thrilling atmosphere.
I took them to the house I had prepared. As soon as we entered, Emma and Daniel immediately looked around. “Wow! This is bigger than our house near the beach!” Emma exclaimed excitedly, comparing it to the experience she had before.
Daniel ran around, exploring every corner of the room. “We have a lot of space to play, right, Dad?” he asked with a big smile.
“Yes, we have more space to relax and play. This will be our new home for a while!” I said, feeling their happiness.
Mikayla arranged the doors one by one, laughing at the children’s innocence. “Let’s make this place as comfortable as our previous house. We can add a few personal touches to make it feel more like home.”
Seeing Emma and Daniel’s faces shining with happiness made me feel like all the sacrifices and travel had been worth it. This was a new opportunity for us to start a better chapter in our lives.
“How about we add some cute wallpaper in your rooms?” I said, trying to add some interesting ideas.
“And we can choose the paint color ourselves!” Emma replied, getting more excited.
“This will be a new adventure for us. Let’s make this house full of beautiful memories!” Mikayla said, holding the same hope.
