Chapter 54

Zara's POV
A feeling of dread crept into me. What was this? What was I really dealing with? Maybe Leo wasn't a human after all. He was right, he could be an alien living among us. I was starting to feel trapped in a marriage with a being from another planet, and questions were racing through my mind.
In disbelief, I backed away slowly, trying not to make a sound. However, the peace was short-lived. In my panic, I felt confused and frightened by this new reality. I didn't know what to do. Should I go out and stop them from talking? Should I ask Leo directly?
Eventually, I decided to retreat from the living room and find a place to think for a while. One thing was for sure, I couldn't let this situation continue without fully understanding what was happening.
Sitting on the couch, I tried to calm myself and gather my thoughts. Remembering all the time we had spent together and my love for Leo, I tried to think positively again. Maybe there was a logical explanation for all of this. Maybe they were harmless. But my gut whispered that I needed to know more.
But as I planned my next move, I knew that I couldn’t wait too long for answers. My eyes drifted to the living room as despite my anxious feelings, I waited a few minutes before finally mustering up the courage to approach them again.
Leo looked at me with a limp and surprised expression, “Zara! Are you back?” He looked worried when he saw my expression.
My spirits were high, and I chose to answer directly. “What are you talking about? Why are you talking about collecting human ova?” I asked, my voice shaking with tension.
Every eye in the room was now focused on me, and Leo immediately stood up, trying to explain. “Zara, wait. It’s not what you think. I can explain,” he said as he stepped closer.
My courage had risen, and I was ready to hear whatever explanation he had to give. No matter what, I wanted to know the truth. I couldn’t let my fears stop me from understanding the real facts.
As I sat there, wondering if I had found out the truth, the door suddenly opened. Leo stepped in, only to see my shocked and confused expression. His expression changed, and he leaned in closer, trying to reassure me.
“Zara, wait. It’s not what you think,” he said, his voice soft and caring. But I couldn’t hear his words as the whole world seemed to stop. I had heard enough, and fear was bubbling up inside me.
Before I could think, I scrambled to my feet. “Don’t come any closer, Leo!” I yelled, my voice shaking with uncertainty. I felt trapped in this situation, unable to run as fear gripped me. But my instincts for self-preservation pushed me to leave. With all my strength, I ran out of the house.
Outside, I saw a taxi passing by. Without thinking, I waved it off. “To my parents’ house, hurry up!” I yelled to the taxi driver before he could ask any more questions. Panic filled my heart as we sped away from Leo’s house and the anxiety that was weighing me down.
When I arrived at my parents' house, the worry and fear I felt burst out. Without hesitation, tears flowed down my cheeks. I couldn't explain what happened, no matter how the words tried to clot in my throat. My family looked confused at me, looking at me with panic and worry.
"Zara, honey, what's wrong?" My mother's voice was full of love and panic, but I could only sob, unable to get a word out. All I could do was cry, my body shaking with anxiety and fear that hit me.
Seeing my very shaken state made my parents even more worried. My father tried to calm me down, "Calm down, Zara. Tell us, what's wrong? What happened?"
I could only shake my head, unable to explain the situation with common sense. My incident with Leo was spinning in my mind, and I felt increasingly trapped in the dissatisfaction of understanding the reality that had just been revealed.
As they surrounded me trying to provide support, I hoped that I would find the courage and strength to share what happened. My heart was struggling with fear, confusion, and sadness, but eventually, I knew I had to get through this. This was too much to bear alone, and I needed his help to find a way out of this.
I prayed that when I was ready to share, my parents would be able to guide me, and I would be able to find a way to face whatever was ahead. My forgiveness for myself had to overcome this fear, and I was determined to fight to find the truth of my life—whatever it was.
After a while, Leo finally followed me to my parents’ house. I saw him enter with a worried face, trying to find a way to explain the situation. As soon as he saw me with my parents, he immediately tried to reassure them, “Ďad, Ma’am, this is just a misunderstanding. Zara and I—”
But before he could continue, I couldn’t help but scream, “No! Leo isn’t human! He… he has a big secret! He’s not who you think he is!” My voice was full of emotion, but my parents seemed confused and inclined to think I was exaggerating.
“Zara, calm down. This is all too dramatic. Leo is your husband, his intentions are good. There’s no way something like that could happen!” my mother said, trying to calm me down, but my frustration only deepened. Those moments felt like silence because of the tension that enveloped us.
“I don’t want to go home! He can’t be trusted!” I shouted, rejecting everything that was happening. My heart was torn between fear and confusion, creating a suffocating moment.
