Chapter 57

Zara's POV
When I arrived at Leo’s house, I felt a mixture of anxiety and excitement. As soon as he saw me, his face filled with hope. “Zara, you’re back!” he said, as if he couldn’t believe I was seeing him again.
“I’m back,” I said firmly, trying to show my conviction. “We need to talk about all of this again.”
Leo nodded, and the two of us sat down on the couch. “I want to take responsibility. Whatever you need, I’ll do my best to do it,” he said, his tone indicating that he wanted me by his side.
“Okay, but we need to find another way besides harvesting human ova,” I replied, trying to get into the subject without distracting him. “There is another possibility, Leo. Maybe I can help you find a solution that doesn’t endanger the human race.”
Leo seemed thoughtful for a moment. “I know. I realize how difficult this situation is. But right now, I don’t have any other options. We need human ova for our survival. Without them, my people are in danger of extinction,” he said, his voice full of unease.
My heart throbbed at those words. I wanted to help him, but at the same time, I felt caught in an ethical dilemma that could not be ignored. “But humans have a right to live too, Leo. We cannot sacrifice one life for another.”
He seemed to grow increasingly difficult, as if trying to process everything he had said. “I understand, Zara. That is why I feel so burdened. I never wanted to hurt you or humans. My people are in a desperate situation and we need to find a way out.”
We were both silent for a moment, sensing the tension between us. Was there a way out of this dilemma?
“I want to help, Leo. I want to find something that can save us all,” I said, trying to show my commitment to finding a solution. “Is there a way to communicate with your people? Perhaps there is an altruistic solution that can be found through dialogue.”
“That is a good premise. However, as aliens, we do not have many options when it comes to communicating effectively,” Leo replied. “Most of our interactions are technical, and we rarely discuss emotional issues.”
“I don’t want us to get stuck in a limited way of thinking. We need to find a new perspective,” I said, trying to explain. “Let’s think of other possibilities that can help your people without harming humanity. We can work together to find a wise solution.”
Leo looked at me intently. “You’re right, Zara. Together, we can try to find a better way to solve this problem. That’s a brilliant idea. I need your support to show my people that there is hope.”
As we discussed the options and possibilities, I felt a new strength rise between us. Although the challenges ahead seemed daunting, the child inside me gave me the courage to fight for a better future.
With that, I decided to stay by Leo’s side, trying to dig deeper to find a way out of this complicated situation, while forging a stronger connection. I believe that, despite the uncertainties I face, together with Leo, we can find a way to protect the rights of every life and find a path to safety for all.
Being a pregnant mother is not as painful and difficult as it is often said. I feel grateful that I do not experience morning sickness which is usually a problem for many pregnant women. On the contrary, I can still do my daily work comfortably, manage my routine as usual, and not feel too stressed.
With this situation, I decided to invite Ismaya, my best friend who is always supportive and very reliable, to talk in my office. We sat next to each other, and I felt an open feeling that I wanted to express to her.
“Ismaya, I need you to listen to some important things,” I said, trying to explain the situation I was facing.
She looked at me curiously. “What happened? You look a little serious,” Ismaya replied, her voice showing concern.
“So, you know about Leo, right? He… he’s actually an alien,” I said, carefully, trying to weigh her reaction.
Ismaya was stunned for a moment, looking in disbelief. “Aliens? Zara, what are you talking about? Is this serious? You’re not kidding, are you?”
“I’m not kidding. This is a real problem. Leo and his people are harvesting human female ova for their own survival, and I’m stuck in this complicated situation,” I explained, feeling anxiety begin to weigh on my mind.
Ismaya looked even more shocked, but then she tried to calm her down. “Wow, this is serious. Are you sure this is the path you should take? Isn’t it dangerous for humanity?”
“I know, and that’s why I need to talk to you about it. There are concerns about the future and the rights of women. However, I believe that we can find a better solution than just harvesting ova,” I said, trying to spread some optimism.
We spent some time discussing ideas and possibilities. As we talked, Ismaya seemed to be thinking hard. “Maybe we can find a solution in a more friendly way. Either through collaboration between species… or maybe there’s a way to connect them with scientists or doctors who can help create solutions for their needs. We need to do more research on their culture and find out what they want—before we give them painful choices.”
My mind was spinning with these ideas. “That’s actually a great idea, Ismaya! We might be able to learn more about their world and how they replicate without hurting women.”
Ismaya nodded in agreement, looking more focused. “We do need a more diplomatic approach. Engaging in dialogue and coming to an agreement might yield better results. If Leo were willing to engage his people in more open discussions, perhaps they would find a less confrontational way.”
