Chapter 66

Leo’s POV
After a while of talking and reassuring Zara, I figured that the only way to find answers was to meet Letto. I needed to get some clarity on what could possibly be happening and how it all related.
With a surge of enthusiasm in my chest, I went to meet Letto. When I reached where he usually was, seeing him discussing with a few other people only served to rekindle my anger. With determination, I stepped forward and glared at him.
“Letto!” I shouted, my voice firm. Everyone around us stopped and stared, paying full attention to my interaction with Letto.
He turned and greeted me with a confused expression. “Leo, what’s wrong? You seem upset.”
“I want to know what you did that had to do with Zara and the baby. Did it have anything to do with the loss of the fetus? Did you do something?” I asked, unable to contain my rising anger.
Letto frowned, showing his innocence. “You can’t blame me for what happened. Every decision has consequences. I was simply presenting the facts to our nation and wanted to make sure we didn’t lose anything of value.”
But as he spoke, my anger flared. “There is no reason to harm Zara or the baby! We have alternatives. You should have supported this decision, not done something behind my back!”
“Leo, you don’t understand. We are in an emergency!” Letto replied sharply, but the annoyance on my face didn’t subside.
“And you think endangering innocent lives is the answer? I will not allow that! Zara and the baby are innocent in any way!” I shouted, my voice filled with determination.
My anger boiled over, and I knew at that moment that I had to protect Zara and our fetus at all costs. I couldn’t let Letto or my people affect my family’s safety.
He tried to defend himself, but I ignored him. “You must understand the consequences of your actions. If you continue to make decisions that harm them, I will not hesitate to take a firm stand. I will protect Zara and our child relentlessly—no matter what!”
When I returned from my meeting with Letto, the anger burning inside me was unquenchable. My heart was filled with determination; I knew I had to fight for Zara and our baby, and if it meant facing Letto, then I would. I would protect them from any threat.
Immediately, I searched for Letto quickly. Amidst the rising tension, I found him standing near some of his fellow comrades, talking and looking as if he didn’t care about what had happened. Seeing him so calm made me even angrier.
“Letto!” I shouted, my voice firm and echoing in the air. He turned, his eyes wide, but when he saw my angry expression, he realized that this was not a good time for him.
Before he could say anything, I moved closer. “We need to talk! Now!” I said. Feeling the tension, everyone around him stepped back for a moment.
“Leo, calm down. We can talk about this,” Letto replied, trying to avoid confrontation.
“There’s nothing more I want to hear. You have to take responsibility for your actions!” I shouted, almost banging on the door of my mind. A surge of anger surged and made me lose my patience. All of this stemmed from a decision we should have been able to resolve without hurting anyone.
When he started to walk away, I couldn’t hold back. “If you’re trying to steal our baby, I won’t let it happen! You don’t understand how important Zara and her baby are!”
Then, it seemed like Letto decided to confront me, and he stepped towards me. “You can’t be like this, Leo. We’re in the middle of a difficult situation, and you’re too attached to a human!” he said in an increasingly intense tone.
We started to argue, he tried to explain his point of view, but everything he said only made me angrier. In the panic, we started pushing each other. The atmosphere was getting out of control. The surrounding colleagues and onlookers began to watch with anxiety.
“If you continue to fight, I will consider you my enemy! No one has the right to determine the lives of Zara and our child!” I shouted again, trying to emphasize the strength of my efforts to protect them.
Things got even more chaotic as the two of us engaged in a fight. We physically pushed each other, and in an instant, the tension pushed us into chaos. Even though Letto was my best friend, at that moment I cared more about protecting my family, and my anger got the better of me.
The crowd around us began to gather, keeping their distance but worried about the situation escalating. “Stop! Both of you!” one of our friends said, trying to stop me.
But at the time, I didn’t care if it would lead to something worse. All the emotions, the feeling of facing each other in battle, the stakes—should I fight for my family or keep the friendships I had in the past?
But as the fight grew louder, I felt a certainty come over me. I had to protect Zara—I had to remember my ultimate goal. Not just to defend myself, but to give meaning to my life and the new life that was about to be born.
Finally, I stopped the attack, and stood there gasping for breath, my mouth trembling with anger. “I will not let you hurt my family. If you can’t understand that, I don’t have time to fight with you!”
The tension between us subsided. I don't know how long it took when my heart began to calm down. At that moment, I realized that no matter what happened, I had to be ready unconditionally. That was my commitment—to protect Zara and our child from all threats, including threats from those closest to me.
After the intense fight with Letto, I felt full of mixed emotions. As I rushed home, my heart and mind were only on Zara. She should know that I was okay, and she shouldn't worry because of this situation.
