Chapter 62
Zara's POV
That night, we gathered together like we used to. With laughter and stories, we shared experiences, supported each other, and made promises to continue to take care of each other’s health. This togetherness reminded me of how precious every moment is and how much we need to take care of each other and love each other unconditionally.
With new hope and happiness, I realize that despite the challenges ahead, we will continue to fight. We are not only fighting for Dad's health but to maintain the happiness and love in our family for a better future for my children. We will do it together as a strong team and look forward to the beautiful days ahead.
On the way home, I felt somewhat relieved, but then the feeling of anxiety hit me again when Leo and I were suddenly stopped by a group of strangers on the side of the road. Our car was forced to stop, and I felt my heart beat faster.
One of them stepped forward, and as he spoke I could hear that he recognized Leo. "Leo! Why didn't you take more human ova?" he asked angrily. His voice was firm and questioning as if demanding an explanation.
I slowly watched, confused and afraid, as Leo's expression turned serious. "Letto, this is not the time to discuss that!" Leo replied, his tone indicating the tension between them. There was no doubt that Letto was one of his people.
A sense of dread began to grip me. What were they talking about? Why had this problem arisen in the first place? And what if Letto wanted to keep his way? I felt increasingly trapped in a very tense situation—in the car, in the middle of a dispute that had nothing to do with me.
"Why did you let them do this? Not only are they harming us, but they could also threaten your safety!” Letto continued, glancing at me with a look that hurt my feelings.
“They are humans! We cannot act arbitrarily! Zara has given us a chance to find a better solution!” Leo explained in a passionate and firm tone. I could feel the tension growing between the two of them, and I tried to stay calm, praying in my heart that everything would end peacefully.
“Zara? Who is she? What makes this human important to you?” Letto asked, his voice starting to become urgent. The uncertainty in the air made me a little more uneasy.
I wanted to explain, but as the pressure grew, for now, I felt it was best to stay away from the discussion. “Leo, we have to go! They don’t seem to want to listen!” I exclaimed in a trembling voice, a sense of anxiety creeping into my mind.
Leo suppressed the urge to argue further, then answered Letto. “What you are doing here will not help you, or anyone else. We are trying to find another way.” His expression showed that he wanted to end this conversation as soon as possible.
Eventually, Leo pulled the car to the side and tried to continue, hoping to avoid further confrontation. With fear and anxiety, I looked back at Letto and the people around him, feeling a sense of relief as we pulled away from them.
Inside the car, the atmosphere had calmed down, but the tension was still palpable. “Zara, I’m sorry. It happened so suddenly, and I didn’t expect such an encounter,” Leo apologized, his face expressing regret.
“I don’t know what happened, but it was really scary!” I said, still feeling my heart pounding. “Where did they come from, Leo? Why are they asking those things?”
Leo paused for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts. “Letto is one of my group. They disagree with the decision I made not to take human ova. They think that if we continue the way we are, we will lose our chance to survive,” he replied, his tone of concern.
I understood that while Leo had good intentions, there were great challenges ahead for us to avoid interspecies conflict. “Do they all think that way?” I asked.
“Not all of them, but there are some who are stubborn and will do anything to change this decision,” he said.
As the car drove into the quiet night, even though the tension in my heart was still there, I began to feel a sense of strength within me. The anxiety that had been weighing me down slowly began to ease as I realized that no matter what happened, Leo and I would face this together. We had been through a lot, and I believed that we would continue to fight for the future of our family.
“Leo,” I said quietly, trying to get his attention. “I know this is difficult, but we need to discuss further what happened with Letto and his group, and the threats that may lie ahead.”
He nodded, his face serious as he stared at the road ahead. “You are right. We cannot ignore the fact that there are people who want to try to separate us from the choices we have made. We need to prepare and make plans to keep ourselves and our children safe.”
I felt encouraged by the seriousness in his tone. “Maybe we should approach some good friends who understand this situation—either those who are on our side or who can provide insight from their perspective. We need to form alliances, Leo. We need to seek support from people who care.”
Leo smiled slightly, seemingly relieved to hear my optimistic voice. “That’s a good idea, Zara. We’re not alone in this, and it can be wise to listen to other people’s perspectives.”
We arrived home and felt a sense of calm as we walked in. My mother called me. “Zara! How are you? Is everything okay?” she asked anxiously.
“Everything is fine, Mom. We just have a lot to discuss,” I said, conveying a sense of calm. “How’s Dad? Have you rested?”
