Chapter 10 Loss of Million Dollars Was Not a Big Deal

Alexander, the eldest of the Sinclair family's younger generation, smiled most of the time, but few dared to challenge him. Sometimes his words weighed more than their parents'. After receiving Alexander's warning glance, Tom fell silent and closed his mouth.

Megan glanced at Alexander, her expression hidden behind lowered eyes. Wendy was quickly escorted away and placed under the care of the villa's security, but resolving the situation proved difficult. Wendy had not stolen anything from the Sinclair family, so involving the authorities was out of the question. It was regarded as a matter arising from her superstitious beliefs. After all, the idea of stealing luck in wealth had no basis in reality. Nonetheless, Wendy was unable to remain at the Sinclair Villa following this incident.

"Ms. Sinclair, how should we handle these items?" Zach inquired about Olivia. Regardless of how she had found out about the buried items, Olivia, having recently returned home, clearly possessed certain abilities.

"Just burn them," Olivia said casually, retrieving her phone to do something. Alexander raised an eyebrow when he noticed her transferring an additional $10,000 to a specific account, on top of the $20,000 he had just given her. He refrained from further investigation. He'd given her the money, so she could spend it however she wanted.

In the villa's study, Zach informed Percival about the garden incident. "I found something in the flower bed, likely the item Ms. Sinclair mentioned, purportedly stealing the Sinclair family's luck in wealth."

Percival expressed mild surprise. "She actually knows about these things?"

Zach paused for a moment before responding, "It could be a mere coincidence." He went on, "According to the surveillance footage, the item was buried a month ago. According to Ms. Sinclair, the Sinclairs should have suffered some financial loss. However, Mr. Kenneth confirmed that neither the company nor the family had suffered any setbacks. Essentially, if the buried item had no effect, Olivia's claims would be called into question. Percival appeared to think about this before smiling and saying, "Seems like it's just a hobby of hers. As long as it has no effect, let it be."

Wendy's treacherous actions made her unsuitable to remain at the Sinclair Villa. Olivia was surprised to learn that the Sinclair family had suffered no financial losses. "This can't be possible," she exclaimed. Despite being a mere fraction, Wendy was able to siphon a portion of the Sinclair family's fortune in wealth.
That insignificant luck in wealth alone was enough to bring Wendy's family a windfall.
Olivia was steadfast in her conviction.

Tom, who had previously questioned Olivia's claims, now sneered, feeling vindicated. "I told you she was bluffing. Stealing luck in wealth? I've never heard of it!" Olivia cast an impatient glance at him, conveying a silent rebuke, before turning to Alexander. "Have someone investigate Wendy and her son's financial accounts for the past month, and we'll have our answer."

Alexander, who was curious about Olivia's abilities, made the necessary arrangements without hesitation. Shortly after, he received the investigation results, and his expression changed slightly. Tom and Megan, both intrigued, approached to find out the outcome. Alexander discreetly pocketed his phone before turning to Olivia. "The Bakers did make some money recently. They won a million-dollar lottery.

Olivia immediately understood the significance. Confident in her assessment, she explained, "When one side gains luck in wealth, the other loses it. They received a million dollars, so the Sinclairs should lose a few million." Despite the gravity of her words, Alexander struggled to respond.

"Last week, the company's project did have some issues and lost several million dollars," she said. Alexander remained unconcerned about the minor financial setback, and Kenneth, the CEO, shared his sentiment.

"When you mentioned losing money earlier, I expected the amount to be in the hundreds of millions. Turns out it's only a few million," Alexander said, as if he'd been misled rather than forgotten.

Olivia was speechless when she realized that Wendy had taken away their insignificant share of the Sinclair family's wealth, not that the Sinclair family had lost their luck. Even if they faced financial difficulties, it would go unnoticed. Olivia couldn't help but feel jealous when she thought about the cruelty of the wealthy, despite the fact that she was now a member of the Sinclair family.

"Wendy's son blew the family's savings on gambling a few months ago. He was arrested last month after causing a fatal accident while driving drunk. The victim's family sought 400,000 in exchange for forgiveness. Wendy most likely resorted to stealing the Sinclair family's wealth as a result," Olivia recounted, revealing Wendy's motivations as Wendy confessed voluntarily. Alexander uncovered the truth in less than an hour.

When Olivia learned that Wendy's son was responsible for the fatal accident, she immediately linked it to Wendy's misfortune. However, in a moment of realization, she sensed something was wrong. If Wendy's son had caused the accident, Wendy would have suffered an indirect consequence. However, the misfortune she faced appeared to be directed at her.

Olivia turned to Alexander after a brief pause in thought. "Can you show me a picture of Wendy's son?" Alexander was impressed by Olivia's quick adaptation to her new role as his sister and her instinct to seek his help, so he quickly sent a picture of Wendy's son.

Olivia enlarged the photo on her phone. After taking a quick look at Wendy's son, she frowned.

"No, this doesn't seem right. He shouldn't look like this," Olivia said, requesting his personal information. Then, she took three tarot cards from the mini bag hanging from her waist and began divining the situation.

Tom sneered beneath his breath, "Stop pretending."

Ignoring his comments, Olivia quickly finished the divination, her delicate face showing a hint of seriousness.

Tom tried to provoke her again, saying, "So, after your divination, did you discover any disasters?" He had seen similar tactics from street fortune tellers before and was skeptical of Olivia's abilities.

Despite Tom's taunts, Olivia continued to address Alexander, saying, "Based on his personal information, he was born with a foolish destiny. It is thought that there are eight levels of wisdom. If someone has committed serious sins in their previous life and wishes to reincarnate as a human, they may be stripped of one level of wisdom and become foolish. However, he now possesses all eight levels of wisdom. I suspect Wendy used other methods to keep him at average intelligence."

Unbeknownst to Wendy, restoring her son's intelligence might change his fate. Those who had committed wrongdoing in previous lives and were reincarnated as fools had a shorter lifespan and a greater proclivity for evil deeds once their intelligence was restored. Wendy's son's descent into gambling addiction and vehicular homicide was a direct result of his regained intellect.

Olivia spoke openly in the living room, making no attempt to avoid others. Carol Reed, a maid who was listening in on the conversation, was hesitant to speak up due to her position, despite the fact that she clearly had something to say.
