Chapter 14 Don't Worry, I'm Here
"Mr. Whitman, I apologize for disturbing you at such a late hour. I'll leave you alone for now and apologize in person tomorrow morning. Olivia resolved to return home and care for the little fox.
She promised Ian that he would see a pristine and groomed Emily tomorrow.
Ian gave her a serious look, his expression remaining stoic. He simply nodded in acknowledgement and told his companion, Zach, "Send Ms. Sinclair home, please."
Zach nodded, politely guiding Olivia out. Despite living in the same neighborhood, Zach had thoughtfully arranged for a security patrol car to accompany her and the fox all the way to the Sinclair Villa's doorstep.
Zach was taken aback by Olivia's unexpected departure.
He hadn't noticed Olivia slipping out, nor had he expected her to return with a fox in her arms.
"Ms. Sinclair, what is..." Zach began, his confusion evident as he attempted to address Olivia and the fox at the same time.
After dismissing the Whitman family's bodyguard, Zach returned his attention to Olivia and the small creature she held, unsure who to address first.
Zach rushed to allow Olivia to enter ahead of him after noticing her casual attire.
As Olivia stepped inside, she noticed Alexander waiting for her at the foot of the staircase, clearly anticipating her return.
At the corner of the staircase on the second floor, Tom poked his head out, looking extremely excited.
As soon as Olivia stepped in, he saw what she was holding in her arms. He couldn't help but lower his voice and point at her accusingly, "What... What's that thing in your arms? Our family doesn't allow furry pets inside!"
Olivia glanced at the trouble-seeking teenager and asked him seriously, "If that's the case, why are you here?"
Tom was stumped, looking very foolish. Alexander had already chuckled beside him.
It took Tom a while to react. His face instantly turned red, and he was about to explode.
"You!"
"It's late. Grandfather and the others should be asleep already," Olivia said calmly, extinguishing the volcano of anger that Tom had prepared to unleash.
Although being impulsive, he always knew when he could be and when he couldn't.
Making noise after nightfall was against the rules of the Sinclair family.
Moreover, Percival, being old, slept early. It wouldn't be good for his health if he were suddenly awakened.
Even though Tom was fuming at being cornered by Olivia at the moment, he could only hold back his anger. He turned around with an angry huff and tiptoed upstairs.
Olivia watched him leave and then turned her head to look at Alexander, but she had lost the tough attitude she had towards Tom just now.
Holding the little fox in her arms, she thought for a moment and said, "This is my pet fox. It knew I moved and came to find me."
Olivia paused for a moment and continued, "I rented a house for it outside. It will stay at home for one night. Tomorrow morning, I will send it away."
In other words, she wouldn't cause trouble at home.
Listening to her, Alexander felt a slight sting in his heart.
Olivia had obviously raised this little fox before, but she kept it outside. It must be because the Parker family didn't allow her to keep it at home.
Now that she had finally returned to her own home, she didn't even think about keeping the fox by her side again.
Alexander sympathized with her cautious demeanor, as he harbored deep resentment toward the Parker family.
Olivia, as a Sinclair family member and Alexander's sister, should have been indulged and granted her wishes since she was a child. Nonetheless, she was now subject to the Parker family's restrictions, unable to even keep a pet at home.
"This is your home. You can keep whatever you want here," Alexander declared, suppressing his frustration with the Parkers as he approached. His handsome face wore a graceful smile, and his voice exuded gentle determination.
Olivia was briefly taken aback by Alexander's words.
"But Tom said no furry animals are allowed..." she began hesitantly.
"Exactly. So, why can't your fox come in if he can?"
Alexander countered by citing Olivia's own argument against Tom's decree. He demonstrated an elegant and intimate gesture by gently tapping the fox's head.
Alexander smiled reassuringly at Olivia's dazed expression, his charming eyes conveying tenderness and determination.
"Do not worry. I have your back," he assured her.
His words washed over Olivia like a warm embrace, eliciting familiar emotions.
Olivia felt compelled to express her gratitude, but remembered Alexander's earlier insistence, "You don't have to thank me." As a result, she withheld her words of gratitude and simply nodded obediently. "Alright."
As Olivia ascended the stairs with the little fox in tow and closed the door behind her, she noticed a faint smile on her lips, possibly unconsciously influenced by Alexander's reassurance.
She lowered her gaze to the little fox in her arms, noting its innocent and curious expression.
Olivia immediately wiped away her smile and addressed the fox with a stern expression, "Didn't we agree that you would stay put and not roam around? You almost got electrocuted tonight, do you understand?"
The fox appeared to understand her words, hopping down to the ground and innocently spinning in a circle, gesturing to the backpack behind it.
It appeared to be saying, "You moved, and I came to seek refuge with you. "What is wrong with that?"
Olivia sighed and crouched down to remove the small backpack from her back. After inspecting its contents, she couldn't help but smile faintly.
Emily's backpack also contained paints, magic card paper, and various small tools, in addition to her canned food.
Despite having someone care for Emily during her three-day hospital stay following the car accident, the little fox seemed concerned about Olivia's lack of "supplies."
Olivia rewarded the fox's loyalty with a gentle pat on the head before putting the items away.
Olivia had been renting a small house outside since she started studying magic with Diana. She hadn't brought any luggage when Kayla ousted her earlier, because she wanted to keep her studies hidden from the Parker family and needed a place to store her belongings. Her important items weren't at the Parker Villa.
Olivia had planned to settle in and periodically check on Emily, but was surprised when the fox eagerly followed her, albeit to the wrong location.
Despite the late hour, Olivia took Emily into the bathroom and thoroughly cleaned her before cuddling her and returning to bed, where she fell asleep again.
Olivia awoke later than usual the following day. As she looked around her fairy princess-style bedroom, she felt disoriented before realizing it was her new room.
Trying to adjust to the pink and tender decor, Olivia was startled by screams from downstairs, "Ah! There is a fox! Zach, come quickly!"
Another voice asked, "Where did this wild fox come from? Hurry! Catch it!"
Olivia sat up in bed, acutely aware, scanning the surroundings. When she realized she was alone, panic set in as she heard frantic cries echoing downstairs.
Emily!
