Chapter 27 Couldn't Be Worse

After Zachary and his wife left Sinclair Villa, Angela mentioned the dinner that had been scheduled for the following day. It was intended to commemorate Olivia's return home and officially introduce her to the upper class. However, with her departure, they were unsure whether the dinner could continue.

Several people looked at Percival, silently hoping he would provide a solution. Percival squinted slightly before declaring, "The dinner will proceed as planned." He then turned to the younger men, including Tom. "Go, boys, and bring your sister back tomorrow. If Olivia does not return, none of you should bother returning."

They all widened their eyes in disbelief, unable to understand what their grandfather had said. They wondered if he had only met Olivia a few times. Is she really more important than his grandsons?

Tom, as the youngest, found it somewhat understandable. Owen and Quinn, being Olivia's age, believed they owed her an apology. It was as if they lacked the sense of dignity.

Until now, they hadn't realized their mistake. They saw themselves as a family, with Olivia making a scene over a minor disagreement and threatening to leave home. They saw it as an exaggeration on her part.

Regardless of their thoughts, they dared not show any signs of disagreement on their faces. They were about to respond when Kenneth, standing nearby, interrupted, "I will accompany them tomorrow to find Olivia."

Kenneth vividly remembered Olivia's eyes when she mentioned moving out. Alexander specifically stated that he had prepared a room for Olivia. Yet he was now asking her to give up the room she had just reclaimed as her own.

Olivia was probably disappointed in him at the time.

Kenneth had been completely focused on his work for years, and Alexander had been exceptional from a young age, rarely raising concerns. As a result, when Olivia returned, he had not paid her special attention or made any accommodations for her.

It wasn't until Alexander reminded him that he realized how completely clueless he was about parenting. This time, he had to make amends.

Kenneth appeared strict and cold on the outside, but he did not have the outdated male chauvinism that stopped him from apologizing to a younger person.

Since he had made a mistake, he would acknowledge it and try his best to make up for it.

Moreover, he had owed his daughter for eighteen years.

The next day, just as Olivia woke up, she saw four people standing outside the door. Each person was tall and imposing, immovable as they stood at the doorstep.

It was then that she suddenly understood why Alexander had sent her back to the rental house last night. He had known they would come.

"Olivia, are you living here?"

Kenneth found it hard to believe when he got the address from Alexander.

He had thought that even if Alexander let Olivia leave, he would still settle her well. But Olivia actually lived in a place like this.

Olivia glanced at Kenneth and the three people behind him, silently opening the door.
"Come in."

Olivia's living room was small, and with the four big men gathered, it felt like the room was about to burst. Tom and the others' expressions became even more complicated.

The apartment Olivia rented was of average quality. It was mostly inhabited by freshly graduated students and some white-collar workers. The environment here was alright, but it couldn't be considered very good either.

To ordinary people, the living conditions here were decent. But in the eyes of Tom and the other privileged sons from wealthy families, this was already poor.

This living room was not as big as their bedrooms.

They couldn't understand why Olivia would live in a place like this.

"Even if you're looking for a temporary place, you don't have to find such a shabby place. Our family isn't lacking money..." Owen narrowed his eyebrows, concluding that this was just Olivia's trick to make them feel guilty. He saw through it long ago.

Olivia glanced at him indifferently and ignored him. Owen wanted to say something more when suddenly, a fat, white fox jumped out of the pet house tucked in the corner and dashed to Olivia's side.

Only then did the group notice the pet house and toys, which indicated that someone had been living here for a while. They finally realized that this was Olivia's home.

Tom, known for his candor, couldn't contain his annoyance. "Didn't you live at the Parker Villa before? Why are you renting this place by yourself?! Did you get kicked out? His tone was vehemently angry.

Tom's outburst triggered a surge of indignation in Owen and Quinn. They viewed the Parker family's actions as a direct insult to the Sinclair family.

Olivia found the three brothers' sudden shift in attitude perplexing. They mocked her yesterday, but now they are rallying to her defense.

"The Parker family doesn't allow pets, so I rented this apartment to accommodate my fox," Olivia explained calmly, her gaze fixed on Tom and his brothers.

Tom and his brothers' expressions were slightly awkward as they remembered yesterday morning's incident, in which they denied her request to keep a fox at home.

Kenneth, having learned from Alexander about Olivia's desire to keep a fox, stepped in. "Alexander has made a pet house for the fox. You can store it at home. I assure you that no one will object.

"No need, it's fine here," Olivia said softly, pausing for a moment before adding, "It's used to it."

Although she mentioned the fox, it appeared that she was talking about herself.

Kenneth felt a pang of guilt in his chest. He had witnessed Kayla's cruelty firsthand and should have realized that Olivia's time with the Parkers was not as pleasant as they had imagined.

They assumed Olivia had been spoiled and raised solely because the Parkers were wealthy, forgetting she was not their biological child. The couple questioned how they could truly care for a child who was not their own.

Kenneth regretted his words from yesterday even more now. "Oh, Olivia, what happened yesterday was my fault. I apologize. Will you forgive me?" He asked, surprising Olivia.

She suspected Alexander brought them to the rental house to elicit sympathy from her. She wasn't the type to suffer in silence or seek sympathy. They apologized before she could even consider feigning vulnerability.

Kenneth, who is typically dominant and assertive in the business world, was now apologizing to her without hesitation. Olivia wasn't entirely comfortable with it. Everyone assumed her words from yesterday were spoken in anger, but she knew they were true.

Olivia sighed and replied, "I wasn't angry with you, let alone asking for forgiveness. You do not owe me an apology." She paused before saying, "I'm an adult now, and I can live independently. You do not need to worry about me. I moved out because I wanted to, not because I needed to."

Essentially, she had no intention of returning.

Kenneth furrowed his brow slightly, preparing to respond, when he heard Owen's soft complaint beside him. "I am an adult too. Do you think I don't want to live alone? It's because they will not let me."
