Chapter 39 Nicole’s Nightmare

That night, Paul's sanity shattered, and he wreaked havoc on his own home, demolishing antique items valued at nearly a million dollars. He was overwhelmed with remorse and anguish after he came to his senses.

Kenneth publicly disavowed any ties with the Parker family during the banquet, causing several companies collaborating with the Sinclair family to sever their partnerships with the Parker Group. The repercussions were swift and severe.

Paul's health deteriorated rapidly. Kayla had fallen ill even earlier, succumbing to sickness upon her return home.

With both Paul and Kayla indisposed, David assumed temporary control of the company affairs. His days were consumed by a flurry of corporate responsibilities. However, tragedy struck when he was involved in a car accident, resulting in a fractured arm.

Nicole's plight was the direst of them all. For two consecutive nights, she was plagued by the same harrowing nightmare: a bleak sky, an abandoned rooftop, and a girl soaked in blood, her eyes pleading for salvation.

The haunting cries of the girl reverberated in Nicole's mind even after she awoke. On the second night, the girl materialized by her bedside, her tear-filled eyes fixated on Nicole.

Nicole's terrified scream pierced the silence of the mansion, prompting Kayla to rush to her aid despite her own illness. Comforted by Kayla's presence, Nicole recounted her distressing dream.

As Nicole described the apparition, Kayla's appearance inexplicably transformed into that of the pale, tearful girl from Nicole's nightmare, eliciting another round of terrified screams.

Paul's arrival only exacerbated Nicole's terror as he, too, assumed the visage of the spectral girl. The lines between dream and reality blurred, pushing Nicole to the brink of insanity.

Unable to discern reality from illusion, Nicole lashed out in fear, hurling objects at Kayla before fleeing the mansion in a panic.

Unbeknownst to her, a sinister darkness enveloped the mansion, shrouding it from the sunlight. As Nicole departed, tendrils of black mist trailed behind her, tainting everything they touched.

...

On the other hand, Scott, his face gloomy from the mistreatment by Olivia, returned home.

As he stepped out of the car, a figure suddenly rushed towards him, their complexion yellowish, eyes red, and heavy eye bags giving them the appearance of an evil ghost.

In that instant, Scott felt as though he had encountered a ghost in broad daylight and instinctively pushed the person away.

Then, he heard a familiar and aggrieved voice.

"Scott!"

Only then did Scott realize that the person was Nicole. She looked like hadn't slept for two days. Her current state was so different from her previous well-loved appearance by the Parker family. "Scott, how did you become like this?"

These past few days, Nicole had been tormented mentally. When she heard these words, she started crying helplessly.

While crying, she threw herself into Scott's arms. "Scott, I've been having nightmares these past few days. I can't take it anymore..."

With some impatience, Scott regarded Nicole in his arms. Prior to reuniting with Olivia, he was convinced he had made the correct decision. However, upon seeing Olivia once more, he discerned that Nicole paled in comparison in every aspect. Nicole lacked Olivia's beauty and positive temperament, and now even forfeited the advantage of a superior family background. Scott pondered whether he should abandon Nicole entirely and endeavor to win back Olivia.

Initially, he thought that with the position he held in Olivia's heart, as long as he gave her a chance, she would gladly become his girlfriend.

Today, Olivia's attitude made him realize that he was mistaken. Perhaps his words alone couldn't make Olivia believe him. He needed to take practical action.

First, he had to distance himself from Nicole...

Nicole was unaware of what Scott was thinking. She hugged Scott and began to cry about her nightmares these past few days. She kept saying she was scared, to the point that her words made no sense.

Scott couldn't understand what she was saying at all. He just felt that Nicole was excessively sensitive. She was simply having a nightmare, yet she expected him to comfort her.

As Scott pondered the situation, he grew increasingly convinced that Nicole, being delicate, wasn't the right match for him. With his decision made, he briskly pulled her aside. "Nicole, please stop crying. Let's get in the car first and find a more private place to talk."

Given that the front of the villa lacked privacy and Scott had resolved to end things with Nicole, he had no intention of taking her inside. Additionally, he didn't want anyone witnessing Nicole clinging to him.

Filled with nightmares, Nicole's mind was preoccupied, causing her to overlook Scott's intentions for taking her somewhere other than his home. Consequently, she complied without question, obediently getting into the car with him.

Once she got in the car, she still clung tightly to his arm. She looked very dependent on him.

Scott felt somewhat helpless but also guilty at the same time. Nicole's fondness for him weighed heavily on his mind; the thought of how devastated she would be if he broke up with her troubled him deeply.

But he had no other choice.

As Scott thought about this, he instantly pushed aside all his impatience. He decided that even if he had to break up with her, he would do it amicably. "Nicole, actually, if you hadn't come to find me, I would have come to you anyway."

Nicole looked up with dark shadows under her eyes and responded, "Scott, I knew you were thinking about me."

As Scott glanced at the dark shadows under Nicole's eyes, an uneasy feeling settled within him, making it difficult to maintain eye contact. Attempting to withdraw his arm from her grasp, he hesitated before speaking. "I have something to tell you."

Unbeknownst to either of them, the dark energy lingering around Nicole had already enveloped Scott's arm as she held onto it. Despite his efforts to pull away, the eerie energy persisted, clinging to his arm like a delicate thread of silk.

Nicole finally noticed Scott's unusual attitude. She cautiously asked him, "Scott, what do you want to tell me?"

Scott sighed and said, "Nicole, I feel like we're not compatible."

Before Nicole could react, the driver in front suddenly screamed. Both of them instinctively turned their heads. They saw a car coming straight towards them...

"Bang!"

The two cars collided head-on. The tremendous noise instantly echoed throughout the street.
