Chapter 13 I Raised the Fox

The Sinclair Villa exuded a serene atmosphere in the darkness of night, with only a few bedrooms illuminated.

Olivia lay on the pink bed, gazing up at the starry ceiling painted above her, which cast a gentle glow in the darkness, creating a dreamy atmosphere.

Janet Sinclair, Kenneth and Olivia's mother, had expressed concern that she might wake up scared in the darkness of the room.

Olivia could tell from the room's design that her birth had raised high hopes in the Sinclair family, a familial affection she had never felt before.

In stark contrast, Olivia reflected on her arrival at the Parker Villa, where no one seemed to expect her, and if they did, it was unlikely that they did so with good intentions.

Olivia closed her eyes and pushed aside memories of her time with the Parkers, focusing instead on a pressing question about the Sinclair family.

Since her arrival at the Sinclair Villa, Janet, her mother, had not been mentioned once.

She wondered, 'Is she already deceased? Or is there another undisclosed circumstance?'

Olivia was startled awake when she heard a familiar voice.

She appeared to have had a sudden idea, which made her nervous. She quickly rose from her seat, grabbed her coat, and dashed to the window.

That was where the noise came from. Olivia opened the window and looked out at the pitch-black night sky. In an instant, a magic card appeared in her hand. She quickly tossed it into the air and softly recited, "The vast world and the infinite universe. I command the gentle breeze to come quickly."

After finishing her chant, she jumped off the window ledge without hesitation, landing on the third floor.

A gentle breeze enveloped the magic card and carried it back to Olivia. The breeze caught her falling form and carried her safely to the ground.

Tom was on the second floor, engrossed in a heated game with his friends, his phone tightly gripped in his hands. When he noticed a movement above him, he turned his head instinctively. However, the game announced his defeat after only a split-second distraction.

"Oh my god!"

Tom screamed and jumped out of his seat, his anger rising as he remembered his upstairs neighbor. Storming over to the window, he wanted to see what Olivia had thrown down and give her a piece of his mind.

But, as he leaned out to inspect the ground below, he noticed a figure moving quickly across the garden. Before he could concentrate properly, the figure vanished into the darkness, leaving him bewildered.

"What was that?"

Tom's eyes widened in surprise as he tried to see where the figure had gone.

"That figure now looked so much like Olivia. "When did she come down?"

Olivia dashed in a specific direction as soon as she exited the building.

In the distance, she noticed a brightly lit three-story mansion.

As she approached, she could faintly hear some commotion from within.

"Ah!"

Olivia recognized the cry and dashed to the mansion's main gate. Looking through the iron bars of the garden gate, she saw several bodyguards chasing a small creature.

One of the guards brandished an extendable baton and prepared to strike. Panicked, Olivia yelled from behind the gate, "Don't hurt it! It's my pet!"

While Olivia was speaking, she already subconsciously wanted to retrieve a playing card, but before she could do so, a muffled voice rang out from the guards' walkie-talkies. One of them signaled, and the guard holding the baton withdrew it.

The iron gate in front of Olivia swung open automatically. Stepping briskly inside, she noticed the small creature the guards had cornered moving toward her.

The creature emerged from the shadows, revealing itself to be a small fox with a snow-white coat. It had a plump body, a chubby tail, and wore a pet backpack that swung as it ran.

The fox approached Olivia and climbed onto her leg with a whimper, a stark contrast to its earlier growls at the guards.

Olivia reached down with a helpless expression to pick up the fox, thinking, "With its sense of smell, it couldn't have come to the wrong place."

A flash of golden light caught her attention.

Olivia looked up and recognized the familiar golden glow at the villa's entrance.

After a closer look, she recognized Ian Whitman, also known as Devil, in that distinctive golden hue.

Olivia was taken aback by her unexpected arrival at Ian's home.

The golden aura around him appeared even more dazzling in the darkness, forcing Olivia to adjust her gaze for a moment.

Olivia approached him, holding the little fox, feeling embarrassed.

"Mr. Whitman, I apologize. This is my pet fox. It came looking for me, but it must have wandered away."

Ian noticed Olivia's thin nightgown and hastily thrown-on coat. Olivia's clothes were wrinkled, with faint claw marks visible, but her expression remained calm.

"It doesn't appear to have ended up in the wrong place," Ian said, his voice deep and magnetic, especially chilling in the night air. His pale eyes focused on the fox nestled in Olivia's arms.

Olivia followed his gaze and looked down. Emily, the fox, had previously whimpered and was now extending its neck to get closer to Ian.

It fixed its gaze on Ian, its black pupils gleaming brightly.

Olivia knew that if she hadn't held it, the fox would have already moved towards Ian.

In an instant, she became aware of that the fox had been drawn to the golden light.

"Emily!"

Olivia's tone contained a warning as she tightened her grip on the fox.

Internally, she resolved, 'I haven't even obtained the golden light, and you believe you can have it? Dream on!'

Although the fox stopped attempting to approach Ian, its eyes remained longing.

Olivia took a step forward instinctively, feeling sympathy. "It seems my fox has a fondness for handsome individuals..."

However, just as she approached, Ian took a step back, standing firm at the entrance.

Olivia's motion came to a halt abruptly, and she let out a nervous laugh.

It seemed like she had been rejected

She looked down at the little fox in her arms, its fur dirty from its nocturnal adventures.

Olivia concluded firmly, "He must have rejected this little fox."
