Chapter 42 Cold-Hearted and Ruthless as She is
In the Sinclair family, Tom always stood out as the reckless one. Whenever faced with discomfort, no matter who it was, he had a knack for sarcastic remarks. And David, well, he wasn't even part of the Sinclair clan.
David's face twisted unpleasantly as he was suddenly scolded by a teenage boy, his finger jabbed accusingly. Yet, he maintained the dignity of a Parker family member. "And who are you? I'm talking to my sister. Don't you know you shouldn't eavesdrop on others' conversations?" David's tone was patronizing, as if lecturing a junior.
Tom couldn't help but smirk at David's words. He couldn't stand being lectured, except maybe by Percival, his grandfather, and Kenneth. Anyone else daring to preach to him would face his immediate outburst. "Bullshit! She's not your sister! She's Olivia Sinclair now! She's got a brother upstairs and one downstairs. Are you qualified to be her brother? Don't go around claiming to be related to her!"
Upstairs, Owen, the older brother, wondered, 'Why are you dragging me into this?' Tom paid no heed to Owen's thoughts as he continued to mock David, "I just heard you talking nonsense upstairs. Like, we're not even mad at you. We've been good to you enough. Who do you think you are, trying to morally manipulate Olivia? Although Olivia is stupid, but the rest of the Sinclair family is not dumb!"
Olivia thought to herself, 'I suspect you are using this as an opportunity to smear my name, and I have evidence.' Though Tom hadn't heard the full conversation, he pieced together enough from the dialogue. David had come seeking Olivia's help.
David wanted Olivia's assistance, yet he approached her with such a condescending tone. Even if Olivia could tolerate it, Tom couldn't. "Over the years, your manipulative thinking in the Parker family has spread even to the other side of the world. Do you actually think you can use past affection to get her to help you? If you can't even deceive me, let alone Olivia. She's such a cold-hearted and ruthless person. She wouldn't be fooled by your tricks."
Olivia thought to herself, ‘This is the second time. I'll say it again, I have evidence.’ Tom cursed and pointed at the jewelry box on the table. Then, he disgustedly pulled out the bracelet from inside. "If you want her help, you bring such a broken bracelet. Who are you looking down on?!" With that, he raised his hand to throw the bracelet.
Olivia's expression changed abruptly. Her finger darted towards Tom, and in an instant, a spell struck his raised hand. Tom felt a numbness, unable to move for a moment. Olivia, who had been across the room, suddenly stood before him, snatching the bracelet. And she glared at him.
She had gone through great lengths to retrieve the bracelet. This foolish boy almost shattered it. Olivia believed he had done it intentionally. Tom, now terrified, couldn't move his arm for a moment. But after Olivia took the bracelet away, he could move again! He didn't believe it had nothing to do with Olivia!
Owen, upstairs, was even more shocked. Tom might not have seen clearly from below, but Owen did. From this angle, he witnessed Olivia's movements. She had just taken two steps and was beside Tom. Could Olivia have some special skills?
David, less impressed than Tom and Owen, watched Tom's actions. He even anticipated the bracelet being shattered. In his mind, Olivia had caused enough family strife over that item. It would be better if it were broken. And if Tom broke it, he could accuse him of damaging their grandmother's heirloom.
David somewhat regretted Tom's failure to break it. Olivia noticed his expression and, with a cold tone, dismissed him. "If you have nothing else, then you can leave."
When David referred to himself as Olivia's brother again, Tom felt particularly uncomfortable. He was ready to scold David again, but Olivia spoke first. "Is the pendant I gave you still there?" Her sudden question puzzled both Tom and David.
David took a moment before realizing what she meant. It was a few years ago when she suddenly started learning gemstone carving. She even gave him a pendant that she made herself. He remembered her saying, "You must remember to keep it with you."
At the time, David pretended to be happy and agreed, but he casually tossed the ordinary pendant aside when he turned around.
Afterward, he never saw that pendant again.
Now, when David heard her ask about the pendant, he didn't feel guilty at all. He just furrowed his brows and asked her, "Why are you asking about that?"
But Olivia's gaze fell on his dangling arm. She smiled slightly because she already knew the answer. "It appears the pendant has gone missing."
When she had given it to him, she hadn't mentioned that the pendant served as a specially crafted protective amulet.
David's accident occurred because he had encountered the malevolent spirit attached to Nicole's body. Had he been wearing the pendant at the time, his injuries could have been avoided, or at least minimized.
However, now he was missing an arm, signifying the loss of the pendant she had painstakingly crafted. Despite this, he had the audacity to claim he regarded her as a sister. His shamelessness was truly laughable.
"Olivia..." David seemed like he still wanted to explain. However, Olivia was already too lazy to listen further. She interrupted him directly, "If Nicole wants to solve her problems, then she should come to me herself. As for you guys, just stay away from her from now on, or you will continue to have bad luck."
When David heard her words, his face instantly darkened. Olivia added, "This is my final advice. Whether you listen to it or not is up to you."
After she finished speaking, she didn't bother waiting for him to leave. So, she took her bracelet, walked out of the side hall, and went upstairs.
Yes, she took the bracelet with her. This could be considered as the reward for her previous words of advice.
David didn't expect her to just leave like that. He wanted to chase after her again. However, Tom stood in front of him and stopped him.
Immediately, Tom loudly instructed, "Zach! Escort our guest!"
Zach appeared promptly, ready to guide David away from the villa.
Tom watched the uncomfortable David leave before heading upstairs. He still had some business to settle with Olivia.
