Chapter 50 The "Dead" Nicola
Tom deliberately ignored Megan's words and her worried expression, prompting Quinn to express her displeasure. "Tom! Megan cares about you. Why are you treating her so poorly?"
"Don't worry about my attitude toward her!" Tom retorted, arguing directly with Quinn while refusing to acknowledge Megan.
Despite always seeing Megan as an older sister figure, the events in the school building made Tom resentful of her. He despised feeling abandoned, especially by someone he trusted, despite knowing it was a normal reaction to danger.
Megan's gaze shifted in response to Tom's demeanor, and she lowered her eyes, silently reflecting on her actions.
"Tom, today's events were all my fault. If I didn't insist on dragging you with me, you wouldn't have encountered such a situation... I want to apologize," Megan spoke sincerely.
Quinn sympathized with Megan as she expressed her apology, noting her pale complexion. "Megan, why are you apologizing to him! You are the one who got into an accident. This guy should be the one apologizing to you," Quinn said.
"Quinn, don't talk about Tom like that. The responsibility for this incident actually lies with me. Tom tried to protect me."
"Don't speak up for him. If he really took good care of you, why is he fine while you're in the hospital?"
Owen also chimed in, "Megan, you're just too inclined to blame yourself. You cannot always accommodate him in this manner. And if he had an accident today, it was because he didn't protect himself properly."
Tom became enraged by Owen and Quinn's criticism. He didn't want to confront Megan in public, but he couldn't hold back any longer. "You are always blaming me. Why don't you ask what she did?! I stated early on that I didn't want to meet any stupid internet friends or play that stupid game CS. But she insisted on taking me there, and now that she's in trouble, you blame me!”
"Why don't you ask her? When she was in danger, I was the one who protected her! But what about her! She turned her head and let go of me. Then she ran away!" Tom expected Owen and Quinn to support him after this revelation, but they instead condemned him.
"How could Megan do such a thing? Tom, stop your nonsense!"
"Megan was well-intentioned when she took you out, but you chose to blame her instead."
Megan covered her face and cried softly. "Owen and Quinn, stop it. Tom is right; it's all my fault. I shouldn't have taken him out." Megan confessed, "It was my mistake to put him in danger and not protect him," prompting Owen and Quinn to console her while chastising Tom.
Tom was furious, convinced that despite his explanations, he was being misunderstood. Megan's words neither confirmed nor denied his accusations, but Owen and Quinn saw them as Tom causing trouble. At that moment, he understood Olivia's previous experiences of being targeted by them.
Olivia spoke up, seemingly unaware of the tension, while Owen and Quinn remained silent. "Since she's awake, I'll go back first," she said, looking at Tom and asked him, "Are you coming or not?"
Tom was taken aback for a moment and quickly nodded. "Yes! Olivia, I'll go with you!" he agreed, casting a dismissive glance at Megan, Owen, and Quinn before cheerfully following Olivia out of the hospital room.
Owen and Quinn, who were left behind, were taken aback by the unexpected turn of events, watching as Tom and Olivia walked away without hesitation.
They hadn't finished scolding Tom, so why did he go? Megan's expression shifted, revealing both coldness and regret in her eyes.
Although there were no fatalities, the incident at the abandoned teaching building drew police attention once more. Online discussions about the building heated up, including people involved in previous incidents.
Nicole, who had been traumatized by her near-death experience, discovered online reports and became terrified. She dropped her iPad, pleading for help and demanding that they find Master Monk to save her.
"You can also find Olivia, as long as she can save me. She doesn't have to come see me; I can go see her as long as she can get rid of Nicola!
"I can't take it anymore! Nicola has turned into a ghost and is coming to kill me..."
Meanwhile, Olivia, whom Nicole desperately sought, arrived at an old residential building that had seen better days. Noisy sounds could occasionally be heard from inside. Olivia climbed six flights of stairs because there was no elevator, following the energy in her hand to a specific room on the sixth floor.
Olivia heard footsteps approaching from inside the house after several knocks. The door opened to reveal a thin middle-aged woman who appeared perplexed at seeing Olivia outside.
"Hello...who are you looking for?" The middle-aged woman inquired.
Olivia returned the woman's gaze calmly. "Is Nicola here?" she asked.
The middle-aged woman's expression changed, and she began to close the door. "She's dead!" Olivia reached out and stopped the door from closing. "I know she's inside," Olivia said. "I'm here to help her."
The woman trembled, and faint red veins appeared in her eyes as she looked at Olivia.
"Who are you? "Are you sent by the Jensen family?" she inquired, her voice tinged with reserved emotion.
Olivia shook her head. "I'm Olivia Sinclair. You can call me Olivia."
The middle-aged woman trembled slightly, her eyes showing a flicker of struggle and pain. She eventually relented and moved aside, allowing Olivia to enter.
"Come in," she said.
The cabin was somewhat cramped, with no sofa in the living room and only one bed.
Without offering Olivia a seat, the woman led her straight to the bedroom. She knocked on the door and opened it without waiting for a response.
Olivia finally saw Nicola when she entered the room. The young girl sat on the bed, her long hair loose and her eyes vacant, like a puppet.
She was the "dead" Nicola that Nicole had spoken of.
It confirmed Olivia's suspicions.
