Chapter 23 Who Possessed with Such a Deep Resentment
Five magic cards flew toward Cynthia's body, as if drawn by an invisible force, and gripped her tightly. When the cards landed, they appeared scorched, with wisps of black smoke emerging from their centers. Cynthia's pendant, which adorned her forehead, shattered into two pieces simultaneously.
In a nearby small restaurant, a middle-aged man smiled as he looked at his considerable income on his phone. He suddenly spewed blood and fell to the ground, motionless. Screams echoed throughout the restaurant, causing chaos.
Everyone in the Edwards Villa looked surprised, including Alexander. Kimberly, intrigued, tentatively reached out to examine the pendant and magic cards, as if looking for hidden mechanisms. She wondered how the cards so easily adhered to Cynthia's body and why the pendant shattered when the cards emitted smoke.
"Mom!" Zachary expressed his dissatisfaction as Kimberly examined the artifacts, and Dave, suddenly alert, warned, "This is an illusion! Mrs. Kimberly, don't be fooled!" Dave, skeptical of Cynthia's alleged magic, saw it as a skilled deception, recalling the flames conjured moments before as secretly practiced.
Dave's suspicions were dashed when he noticed Zachary and Jennifer's changed expressions nearby. Even Kimberly, who had been investigating, widened her eyes in surprise. His heart raced as Cynthia, who had been unconscious, suddenly opened her eyes.
She's awake!
"Cynthia!" Jennifer's voice wavered and choked with emotion.
Zachary leaned in nervously and asked, "Cynthia, how do you feel?"
Cynthia, as if waking from a slumber, said softly, "Mom?" Dad?"
Cynthia noticed her grandmother's presence beside her, perplexed as to why her parents and grandmother had gathered around her after only taking a nap. She widened her eyes as she looked around the room, taking in the large number of people. She exclaimed joyfully, "Ms. Puppy!" when she saw Olivia.
The room fell silent, except for Jennifer's awkward attempt to correct her. "Cynthia, don't say nonsense. This is Olivia." Cynthia chuckled, and Zachary, relieved to see his daughter back to normal, breathed a sigh of relief.
Zachary, concerned for Cynthia's well-being, asked, "Master Sinclair, is Cynthia alright?" Olivia shook her head, raising Zachary and Jennifer's concerns about Cynthia's recovery.
Olivia clarified, "I broke the wizard's curse forcibly. Although the wizard can no longer harm Ms. Edwards, they duped her into signing a soul contract. We must find and destroy it, or the wizard may continue to cause harm through the contract."
When Zachary and Jennifer heard that the wizard could still harm Cynthia, they became nervous. Jennifer even held Cynthia in her arms, trying to protect her.
At this moment, Zachary had complete faith in Olivia' words.
"I've already had people investigate the surveillance footage from Cynthia's disappearance, but we found no leads.. Although we can continue the investigation worries me; time is of the essence," Zachary stated.
Jennifer, desperate to protect her daughter from further harm, implored, "Master Sinclair, is there any other way to find the mastermind behind Cynthia's suffering? I'll give you any reward you want if it ensures my daughter's safety."
Olivia responded after a moment of thought, "There may be a way." She took a piece of candy from her pocket and offered it to Cynthia with a gentle smile. Cynthia's eyes lit up at the gesture, and she smiled slightly. Olivia asked Cynthia, will you like to play a game with me? I'll treat you to some candy."
Cynthia's gaze lingered on the candy, her desire obvious, but she asked Jennifer's permission before indulging.
Jennifer quickly nodded and said, "Master Sinclair wants to play a game with you. Will you play with her?"
Cynthia's expression softened with her mother's approval. She happily accepted the candy and nodded. Olivia smiled as she retrieved a thin red string from her bag and tied one end to Cynthia's thumb. Then she quickly drew a small symbol on Cynthia's thumb with a pen.
In an instant, a golden light emitted from the symbol on Cynthia's thumb, causing the red string on her hand to stand upright, as if pulled by an unknown force. Everyone stared in amazement.
Cynthia's eyes widened with amazement. "Wow, I can do magic!" she exclaimed.
Olivia smiled and gestured for Cynthia to stand up. "Now, follow the direction indicated by the red string, and magic will lead you to a surprise."
Cynthia happily prepared to embark on the journey.
When Zachary and Jennifer saw Cynthia's enthusiasm, they understood and hastened to follow, instructing all of the villa's bodyguards to join them. Zachary was determined to bring justice to those who had harmed Cynthia.
As the group descended the stairs, uncertainty hung over their destination. Zachary requested a car, but Olivia intervened, stating that a simple mode of transportation would suffice.
Jennifer looked perplexed, prompting Olivia to explain, "The typical Soul Borrowing Spell entails placing hair and money in a red envelope and scattering it along the road. Anyone who picks it up and spends the money unintentionally invokes a curse. However, this method is often ineffective, and the victim may be unaware they have been cursed. But in Ms. Edwards' case, it's clear she was targeted, and more advanced methods like the Soul Contract suggest a personal connection to Cynthia."
Jennifer's complexion turned pale, and tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn't understand why someone would target her daughter, who had already been through a difficult childhood accident.
Jennifer's thoughts were racing. 'My daughter, who has already experienced so much adversity, is now being targeted. It's extremely unfair to Cynthia. Who could harbor such a deep hatred for her? They will not even spare a defenseless child!'
Zachary's gentle demeanor gave way to a firm resolve. He carefully considered every potential adversary who could be responsible for targeting Cynthia.
