Chapter 60 Now, Immediately, Get Lost
The next day, when Megan was discharged from the hospital, Lauren made special arrangements for Jessica and Owen to pick her up and take her home.
However, Tom did not go. Not only did Tom not go to pick up Megan from the hospital, but he also had no intention of replying to her messages.
Preferring not to wait for Megan at home, Tom went directly to Olivia. "Can't you take me with you when you go out? I'll follow you and definitely won't cause you trouble!"
"No," Olivia refused mercilessly.
Tom was desperate. "Why not? I even called you Olivia!"
"You don't have to call me that."
Tom felt aggrieved, but he didn't give up. "At least I am your big client. Shouldn't you take your big client out for a stroll?"
After all, he had spent nearly $140,000. Olivia had only earned $6,000 before.
How long would it take for her to earn $140,000? Tom believed that, in comparison, he could certainly be considered a big client.
Olivia glanced at him, then silently took out her phone and showed him Zachary's transfer records: [Zachary has transferred $600,000 to you.]
Olivia then showed him Kenneth's transfer records: [Kenneth has transferred $2,000,000 to you.]
Even though Olivia didn't say anything, it was a powerful refutation.
Tom was speechless. What were all these? Olivia was making so much money with this.
"No, Uncle Kenneth's transfer shouldn't count! When a father transfers money to his daughter, that can only be considered an allowance!"
Olivia showed him the transfer records for the previous $2,000,000 and explained, "The first $2,000,000 was an allowance, and the second $2,000,000 is my payment."
Tom was speechless and was a little jealous.
He originally thought Olivia was poor, not even having a million dollars in pocket money. But as it turned out, he was the one who was poor! His dad never transferred two million dollars to him even once!
In the end, Tom said that in order to make up for his hurt feelings, Olivia had to take him out today.
Olivia didn't expect that having a younger brother would be so annoying.
If only she had known...
Regardless, Olivia still took Tom out with her.
The driver drove the car directly to the residential building where Nicola was.
When Tom got out of the car and saw the old residential building, his expression changed. "Why did you bring me to this rundown building?"
He thought this place was a dilapidated neighborhood about to be demolished. After all, the environment of this neighborhood was even worse than the one Olivia had previously rented.
Tom had never been to such a rundown place before. As he entered the building, he was even more shocked. "This building doesn't even have an elevator? How could there be buildings without elevators in Haereth?"
Olivia couldn't help but glance at him, then ordered expressionlessly, "You, now, immediately, go back."
Tom immediately covered his mouth. "I won't say anything."
When they climbed to the top floor and saw Nicola's one-bedroom apartment, Tom once again had his understanding of poverty refreshed.
He was about to say something when he saw Olivia's cold eyes looking at him, so he immediately shut up.
Since the Reed family didn't have any guests, Mary only put a bed in the living room for people to sit on.
Tom's upbringing did not allow him to sit on someone else's bed without permission, so he pulled a plastic stool from the side and sat down.
He was tall, and his long legs sitting on the stool looked very uncomfortable.
Although Olivia was surprised when Tom entered the door, she didn't show any scornful expression anymore and unconsciously looked at him a few more times.
She thought to herself, 'It seems like he still has hope.'
Mary could tell at a glance that Tom was not an ordinary person, after all, his appearance looked very expensive. She stood awkwardly in place, her expression reflecting concern as she addressed Master Sinclair, "You came today for a specific reason. Is there something else concerning Nicola?"
Olivia responded, "Her body is fine, I just have something for her."
She then asked Tom to wait outside while she went into the room to talk to Nicola.
Even though Nicola had been here for more than a year, her body was still slowly recovering, and she lay in bed, looking at Olivia as she took out a familiar little paper lantern from her backpack.
As she watched the paper lantern rise in her palm, Nicola became a little nervous, wondering if it was bad news about the child.
But suddenly, a familiar voice came from the little paper lantern. "Nicola, I-I'm sorry... I know I was wrong..."
Nicola instinctively trembled, her hands subconsciously grasping the blanket covering her.
Mary didn't know whose voice it was at first, but as she listened, her eyes instantly turned red and she angrily said, "Is this... the person who caused Nicola to become like this? She ruined Nicola's life, thinking that a simple apology would make us forgive her?"
Nicola's lips were pale, but she continued to bite them tightly. Clearly, she didn't want to accept the other person's apology.
Moreover, knowing Nicole's personality, Nicola didn't believe that she would sincerely apologize.
Olivia then explained Nicola's previous situation and the misunderstanding that she thought the ghost who was trying to kill her was Nicola.
At the same time, she explained, "I made her record these, partly so that you can receive an apology, and partly so that with this recording, you can completely clear your name from the online insults you received a year ago and let everyone know the truth."
Upon hearing the mention of the online insults, Nicola's face turned pale. Apparently, she was once again reminded of the crazy insults and doubts she faced a year ago.
But she had managed to avoid those insults, with great difficulty...
If Nicole's recording was posted online, she might be able to regain her innocence and find forgiveness. However, all the events from a year ago would surely be dug up again, and there would still be people who questioned and humiliated her...
Mary also seemed to think of the past events, and she was more concerned about whether Nicola would break down again and be invaded by something in her body if the same situation were to happen again.
Both Mary and Nicola showed resistance.
Olivia wasn't surprised. After all, they had finally obtained peace and quiet after much difficulty.
This was also why Olivia gave the choice to Nicola. "You can choose to live in peace from now on, or you can choose to use it to protect your reputation. I will give you the recording, but it's up to you to decide how to use it."
Without the recording, Nicola would have to live burdened with doubts and humiliation, but the internet has no memory, so she could still start anew.
That was her only path.
But the recording was the second path, a path she could choose not to take, but she should have the right to choose.
Olivia wouldn't choose Nicola on her own, acting as a champion of justice. She wasn't involved and had no right to choose for Nicola.
After placing the paper lantern in Nicola's hand, Olivia didn't persuade her further.
Nicola looked at the paper lantern in her hand, biting her lip tightly, clearly torn.
Outside the room, Tom couldn't hear any movement inside. He glanced nonchalantly at the ten square meter space in front of him, filled with various items.
He clicked his tongue in amazement. Suddenly, a knocking sound came from outside the door.
Tom instinctively looked towards the direction of the bedroom, but it was quiet inside as if no sound had been heard. Considering calling for someone, he hesitated momentarily, but the knocking sound from outside came again, sounding somewhat urgent. Without hesitation, Tom walked to the door and opened it.
"I'm here, stop knocking!" The door swung open, revealing a young man of about eighteen or nineteen standing outside. His eyes were black and blue, and he emitted a gloomy aura.
Upon seeing Tom, his eyes turned red, as if he could devour a person.
Gritting his teeth, he asked, "Who...are...you?"
Tom, slightly temperamental, tilted his chin up and retorted, "Who are you?"
The young man stared intensely at Tom, his voice hoarse and icy, as he said, "Fred Jensen."
