Chapter 45 Deaf to Advice

Tom assumed Megan and her online friend would choose a typical hangout like a dessert shop or a mall favored by girls. Instead, they surprised him by suggesting an abandoned school as their meeting spot. Linda, along with a group of other youngsters, including Jimmy, the son of a real estate tycoon, gathered there. Jimmy explained his family's plan to turn the school into an amusement park with an escape room feature. Despite the project being in its early stages, he had brought equipment for real-life shooting games.

Jimmy Walker, with his family's prominence in Haereth, enjoyed exploring various games and novel activities, including real-life shooting games. However, the school's history was fraught with disturbing incidents, such as suicides and mental breakdowns among students. The latest being an underage pregnant girl's suicide attempt. Faced with mounting pressure, the school closed down, leading to its auction for redevelopment.

"I have a friend who runs real-life shooting games. I've brought all the necessary equipment and props. We can divide into two teams and compete against each other. Is that okay?" Jimmy said this while looking at Megan.

Among this group of people, Megan had a good temperament and was pretty, attracting the attention of several boys just by standing there, let alone Jimmy, who was a playboy.

In fact, the reason he organized this game was for Megan. He just didn't expect her to bring her brother along.

Megan naturally noticed the gazes around her, but she didn't care. She had even gotten used to the attention from these people. She just smiled and looked at Tom, who had a not-so-happy expression since he came in.

She asked with concern, "Tom, what's wrong with you? Aren't you the one who loves playing games the most?"

Tom didn't have the mood to play anymore. Surrounding buildings, all of them tall and imposing, seemed to have been prophesied by Olivia. A sense of dread suddenly washed over him.

"Why didn't you mention we were coming to a place like this before we left? I don't want to play," Tom, known for his stubbornness, disregarded Megan's feelings, even in his discontent.

Megan felt embarrassed by his complaints. "I thought you would enjoy it..."

Even before Tom could respond, a few men next to them became displeased. "She's your sister. How can you talk to her like that?"

"Nobody cares if you don't want to play."

Jimmy was also upset because the girl he liked was upset. Even if Tom was her brother, he couldn't stand it. "Are you scared of losing, so you don't want to play? Otherwise, I can send a car to take you home and have a glass of milk."

Jimmy's mocking tone was unbearable for Tom. He immediately retorted, "Am I scared of losing? Then I'll show you! Later, I'll make all of you surrender!"

Tom completely forgot what Olivia had said and only wanted to make these people kneel and admit defeat.

By the time Olivia returned from the rented house, it was almost dusk. As she was about to step inside the house, she suddenly felt something was wrong.

She took out the magic card from her pocket and saw that it had instantly turned into black ash. Her magic card had been burned to ashes, which meant that the other magic card it was connected to had also been burned.

Just as Olivia had expected.

Tom had completely ignored her advice.

Initially, Olivia had decided not to meddle in Tom's affairs, believing he needed to learn and mature on his own.

However, when she recalled the magic card she had hidden in Tom's shoe turning to ash suddenly, she realized he had become entangled in something extraordinary. Particularly striking was the faint sense of familiarity emanating from the remnants of magic gas.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Olivia retraced her steps and ventured outside. At the very least, she could show Ethan and Angela some appreciation for their kindness.

While calling Alexander to ask for the contact information of the driver who took Tom and Megan out, Olivia quickly walked towards the main gate.

As she strolled along, Olivia spotted a familiar Maybach in the distance, its interior bathed in a familiar golden glow.

Without a second thought, Olivia signaled for the car to halt. "Mr. Whitman, could I borrow your car?"

Ian was speechless, puzzled by why this pair of siblings seemed to be following him.

Nonetheless, Olivia wasted no time and confidently settled into the backseat of Ian's car. She promptly instructed the driver on Tom's whereabouts and directed him to head straight for the school.

Thirty minutes later, the car arrived at the abandoned school. Olivia thanked Ian and went inside on her own. Just as she stepped in, she noticed the distant, dilapidated building in the darkness.

Frowning, she realized that the situation was more difficult than she had imagined. She felt that there were at least century-old malevolent spirits lurking inside.

Olivia couldn't comprehend her lack of sensation despite being outside the school. She wondered if there might be a barrier surrounding the premises.

Without thinking much, Olivia quickly headed towards the direction of the academic building.

As soon as she entered the building, she felt a terrifying sensation, as if the eerie feeling had materialized and was surging towards her from all directions as if trying to enter her body.

Olivia casually pulled out a magic card and heard a familiar and high-pitched scream.

"There's a ghost!"

Tom's voice came from the fifth floor.

Olivia didn't think much and quickly ran upstairs. In order to get to the upper floor quickly, she used a magic card and lightly jumped a few times to reach the fifth floor.

Upon entering the fifth-floor corridor, Olivia immediately spotted Tom. He was sprinting desperately with a massive silkworm egg strapped to his back, pursued by ominous strands of silk trailing behind him.

Despite his frantic pace, Tom felt an icy chill enveloping his feet, each step akin to treading through a frozen cellar. As the silk threads closed in on him, he resigned himself to his fate for the day, yet clung steadfastly to the cumbersome egg on his back.

Regret flooded Tom as he recalled Olivia's warning. Despite her advice, he had ventured out to meet someone from the internet, even releasing the ominous entity atop the rooftop.

Tom really wanted to cry. He wanted to call Olivia for help, but he didn't even remember her phone number.

Suddenly, his vision became blurry, and Tom felt silver threads passing in front of him. Before he could react, those threads swiftly wrapped around his neck and ankles.

Tom's eyes filled with fear, and as the threads embedded themselves in his skin, he felt like he might really die today.

He couldn't help but shed tears, and in his despair, a familiar woman's voice suddenly came to his ears. At this moment, the voice was particularly soothing.

It was Olivia's voice. She was reciting a spell.
