Chapter 16 She Was Tainted by Bad Fortune

Ian looked her with mistrust, but chose not to inquire further about her knowledge of the Edwards family. Instead, he beckoned for the driver to proceed, and they soon arrived at an expensive villa complex in Haereth's south. Ian's car drove effortlessly to the Edwards Villa gate, experiencing no obstacles along the way.

.
If it were Olivia alone, she would not be able to get through the gate of the villa area.
Ian let her off at the entryway, and it was evident he had no plans to accompany her inside. He left without saying anything, leaving Olivia to deal with the Edwards family on her own.

Curiosity heightened; members of the Edwards family came downstairs to greet their expected visitor. Their expectations were dashed when they noticed an unusual girl cradling a tiny fox in her arms.

"Miss, who are you?"

Olivia chose not to betray her genuine objectives, keeping in mind the Sinclair family's demeanor. Instead, she merely mentioned her last name, Parker, and did not explain why she was visiting. She produced a piece of jewelry from Mystical Mementos in her small bag.
"A while ago, I met Mrs. Kimberly and intending to return it."

Henry Edwards, mentioned on his social media about this grandmother's recent visit to Mystical Mementos. So, Olivia's used this as an excuse.

Jennifer Edwards, Cynthia's mother, was a slightly plump and beautiful woman. She was gentle and friendly. When she saw Olivia, a well-behaved little girl holding a pet fox in her arms, she didn't think too much about it. "So that's how it is."

Kimberly, who has conservative values, began to question the arrangements at home after Cynthia suffered an irreparable head damage. Over the last year, she had reignited her faith in magic, even dragging Henry to a magic club to create jewelry. Despite their extravagance, losing a piece of jewelry was surprising. Nonetheless, someone has taken the trouble to return it.

"Thanks for going through the bother. But, how do you know Kimberly?" Jennifer expressed gratitude, but with caution.

Olivia was about to explain when she gently pinched Emily's stomach, a predetermined signal. Emily sprang from Olivia's clutches and dashed to the second level.

"Emily! Come back!" Olivia called out, hiding her amazement as she pursued the fox.

Olivia praised Emily's activities internally and pushed her to pursue Cynthia, whom they had previously discussed.

Within moments, a high-pitched wail reverberated from upstairs, leading Jennifer and the maid to run in.

Jennifer kept her distance from Olivia and ascended the stairs, which led to a corridor where they discovered Cynthia, dressed in a princess costume and entranced by the chubby tiny fox in front of her.

"Cynthia!" Jennifer called out, rushing fast to protect her daughter, unsure of the fox's nature.

Jennifer was filled with regret as she reflected on how she had let Olivia and the fox to enter so nonchalantly.

"It's a puppy, Mom!" Cynthia reassured, her innocence easing the tension.

Cynthia appeared to be in her mid-teens, with a youthful face and a trace of baby fat that did not reduce her beauty or liveliness. Her eyes were as dazzling as stars, exuding purity and innocence, but her words revealed a childlike naivety that highlighted her flaws.

Olivia's gaze darkened significantly, expressing anxiety, as she noticed a dark aura between Cynthia's brows.

Jennifer saw Olivia's change in manner as disdain for Cynthia's situation. Her discontent filtered into her voice, which became colder.

"Ms. Parker, if there is nothing else, please take your pet. I won't see you off," Jennifer said quickly.

Olivia stopped Jennifer's dismissal and raised her hand, urging Emily to return. Olivia returned Cynthia's look, her expression solemn and grave as she withdrew another accessory from her pocket.

"My little fox scared Ms. Edwards earlier. As an apology, I am offering her this item. It will keep her safe for one time."
Olivia explained truthfully. "Cynthia is beautiful. She should have had a long and prosperous future. Typically, such fates are indicated by a little mole on the breast to attract luck. However, her intelligence was exchanged when she was young, creating a fault in her destiny. Her mole has faded as a result. I believe she may face some hardship in the next few days. It's preferable to keep her at home and prevent letting her go out."

Olivia had planned to discuss the intelligence exchange with Jennifer directly, but the dark glow on Cynthia's forehead took precedence. Jennifer, who was already sensitive to Cynthia's condition, saw Olivia's statements as absurd and quickly assumed a severe manner.

"Where did you come from? How dare you curse my daughter without even knowing her!" Jennifer's tone was rough and devoid of her usual compassion. "I was intrigued how you knew Kimberly. It turns out that you had this intention, right? I won't quarrel with you because you're a young girl. Please leave my house quickly with your fox. Otherwise, I will contact the cops and arrest you!"

Faced with Jennifer's animosity, Olivia realized that communication was pointless. She remained composed as she fetched the little fox and placed it next to a cupboard in the corridor before softly leaving.

Cynthia felt a tinge of reluctance as she saw the fox being dragged away, but she appeared to want to follow. "Puppy, mommy, puppy is leaving," she complained.

Jennifer's heart warmed as Cynthia's innocent remarks moved her to offer consolation. "That is not a puppy. It is a fox. It bites people. Cynthia, since you like puppies, shall I have someone buy you one? Is that okay?"

"Okay! Mommy, you're so nice! I want a puppy!" Cynthia, overjoyed at the thought of a new pet, eagerly agreed, her excitement palpable.

Jennifer couldn't help but cry when she saw how happy her daughter was. Her attitude deteriorated as she noticed Olivia's abandoned item. She softly instructed a nearby servant, "Throw that thing away." She could not let Cynthia get into contact with something of unknown origin.

Jennifer disregarded Olivia's statements about moles and fate as superstition, but her gaze unintentionally shifted to Cynthia's chest, where she observed an inconspicuous red mole partially concealed by the lace lantern-sleeve blouse.

Despite the coincidence, Jennifer was skeptical of otherworldly claims, suspecting the household servant of spreading stories.

Jennifer's interest piqued, she became increasingly apprehensive, forcing her to return Cynthia to her room and quickly summon her husband and son.

Jennifer felt motivated to find out the truth because she suspected someone was trying to fool Cynthia.

Jennifer couldn't rest easy without figuring out everything.

Cynthia, unaware of her mother's movements, warily peered out of her chamber before quietly descending the stairs, her behavior evocative of a curious youngster exploring forbidden land.
