Chapter 52 Your Unborn Child

Mary's panic was palpable as she uttered a soft exclamation, her eyes wide with fear.

Olivia remained composed and quickly intervened, deploying three magic cards to encase the paper lantern, halting the retreat of the glow suspended in midair.

Olivia's relief was fleeting as she watched the magic cards enclosing the lantern disintegrate into black ash one by one. She moved quickly, deploying three more magic cards and rewrapping the lantern. At the same time, she deftly guided the glow along the red thread into Nicola's forehead.

As the glow made its way into Nicola's forehead, the connection between the lantern and her dissolved instantly, causing violent tremors within the now-wrapped lantern.

Mary, consumed by fear, could barely focus on Nicola's safety amidst the chaos.

Olivia directed a burst of magical light into the lantern, sternly instructing, "Stay put!"

Despite Olivia's efforts, the lantern remained agitated as if compelled to move closer to Nicola.

Olivia took decisive action, producing a coil of red rope and binding the lantern into a compact bundle. She finally managed to pacify the lantern by placing another magic card on top of it and returning it to her backpack.

Mary stood stunned, overwhelmed by the unfolding events.

"Master Sinclair, is this..." Mary began, her voice trailing off with anticipation, wondering if it could be Nicola's soul.

"It is…" Olivia started to respond, but her attention was drawn away by a hoarse voice coming from beside the bed.

"...Mom?" Nicola's voice croaked, cutting through the tension in the room.

Mary, overcome with disbelief, dropped her knitting and turned abruptly to face Nicola, her heart racing with hope and surprise.

Mary's numb heart was filled with intense emotion as her gaze met Nicola's. Tears welled up in her eyes instantly.

"Nicola?" Mary's voice broke with emotion as she rushed to her daughter's bedside, tears streaming down her cheeks. ""You can see me. You're speaking...Nicola, my beloved daughter..."

Mary's words were choked with emotion as she wrapped Nicola in a tight embrace, unable to hold back her tears.

Nicola's expression was clouded with confusion and helplessness as she felt as if she was in a dream, unable to understand why her mother appeared to have aged so dramatically while she had only taken a short nap.

Olivia chose not to interfere with the heartfelt reunion between mother and daughter. She quietly left the room, gently closing the door behind her.

Inside the room, Mary's weeping blended with Nicola's hoarse whispers, filling the air intermittently. Mary finally emerged from the room, wiping away her tears. Despite her obvious exhaustion, her eyes sparkled with newfound life.

Mary approached Olivia and expressed her gratitude once more, and Olivia escorted her back to the room.

Inside, Nicola, visibly drained from her tears, looked at Olivia with a puzzled expression. She recognized her; Olivia was Nicole's sister.

"Did Nicole send you?" Nicola's voice, still hoarse from disuse, carried a hint of caution and fear as she looked at Olivia.

Olivia and Nicole attended the same high school, but they were in different classes, and Olivia was preoccupied with her studies in mystical arts with Diana that year. She was unaware of Nicola's existence or her connection to Nicole.

Olivia returned Nicola's gaze, saying, "I now go by the name Sinclair, and I have severed ties with her."

Mary, perplexed by Olivia and Nicola's conversation, took a moment to go over the recent events with her daughter again.

Nicola remained perplexed after discovering Olivia had rescued her. Despite her confusion about Olivia's knowledge of the situation, Nicola felt a strong sense of gratitude to her.

"I...I don't understand what happened to me..." Nicola admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Nicola had been lost in a fog of confusion for the past year as if she had been trapped in a long, harrowing dream in which she saw countless desperate students plunge from a rooftop.

Olivia explained with a grave expression, "Your soul was ensnared, causing you to lose your sanity for over a year. Initially, I believed that the owner of the skull in the abandoned classroom was responsible for trapping your soul. However, I've realized that the true culprit is this," she said, removing the tangled paper lantern from her backpack.

Mary remembered the lantern's violent tremors as she looked at the chaotic tangle. She instinctively positioned herself protectively in front of Nicola.

"Master Sinclair, what exactly is this?" Mary inquired, her voice filled with concern.

Olivia's gaze grew slightly solemn as she fixed her gaze on Nicola. "Contained within this lantern is the malevolent spirit of your unborn child."

Mary and Nicola were taken aback, their eyes widening in surprise at the news.

"Malevolent spirit?" Mary repeated, her voice full of disbelief.

"I believe that when you had a miscarriage in the abandoned classroom, your unborn child's soul was bound to the rooftop. That location was already teeming with malevolent entities due to the tragic history of student suicides. Furthermore, the spirit of an unborn child carries a powerful energy that attracts malevolent forces. Over time, it absorbed these negative energies, evolving into a formidable spectral entity," Olivia explained solemnly.

Olivia failed to mention the sinister enchantment woven into the abandoned classroom, where a malevolent magic circle lurked, infused with dark energy. The silk threads, which came from the skull ensnared within that circle, carried a malevolent presence and served as conduits for its power.

Over time, the classroom had become a breeding ground for tragedy, as students succumbed to despair and malevolence fueled by the sinister energies that pervaded the space. Each tragic death fueled the malevolent entity within the skull, perpetuating a cycle of darkness and despair.

Surprisingly, the vengeful spirit of the unborn infant, which should have been consumed by the malevolent forces, remained encased in its red cocoon. Rather than being absorbed, the skull appeared to shield and preserve it.

Meanwhile, Nicola's online insults and humiliation fueled the growth of her own malevolent spirit. Sensing a connection to its mother's dark energy, the ghostly infant attempted to claim a piece of Nicola's soul, hoping to draw her into its malevolent embrace and transform her into a similarly malevolent entity.

However, Nicola, who was still alive, posed a unique challenge to the ghost baby's plans. Unable to completely consume her soul, it turned to Nicola's deeply ingrained malevolent spirit to target its enemies, particularly Nicole.

Olivia first encountered a shadowy presence with hints of malevolence surrounding Nicole rather than a distinct malevolent entity. Despite Olivia's attempts to disassemble it, it eventually reassembled itself, demonstrating its formidable nature.

Fortunately, Olivia's previous encounter with Tom and the magic card she had left behind enabled her to detect a similar aura emanating from Nicole. Then, she found the source of the black smoke. Otherwise, she would have to wait for the black smoke on Nicole's back to solidify before she could break it apart. However...

By then, Nicole might have already become a dead person.

This time, it was both a coincidence and good fortune that Olivia managed to save her lost soul in time.

As Olivia recounted these events, her gaze shifted to the thread-wrapped paper lantern in her hand, her eyes betraying a cold determination.

Nicola couldn't help but shiver with apprehension as she observed Olivia's demeanor. Unable to contain her curiosity, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Olivia... Master Sinclair, what do you plan to do with this child?"
