Chapter 8 You Don’t Even Have Pocket Money of Six Thousand Dollars?
Kayla and Nicole were turned away before they could even enter Sinclair Villa, but this did not appear to bother the Sinclair family members who were already inside the mansion.
Inside, Tom felt embarrassed by the recent turn of events. He quickly led Megan out of the mansion, taking a stroll along the garden path to console her.
"Megan, don't let it affect you. Alexander is just biased. You have already given up your dollhouse. How can he say that to you? What's so special about Olivia?" Tom's voice was reassuring as he spoke to his distraught sister.
Megan let out a weary sigh before responding softly, "Tom, I appreciate your concern, but please don't say such things. I was never truly a member of the Sinclair family. Olivia rightfully owns everything. What Alexander said isn't entirely incorrect."
"What do you mean? Megan, you are my sister, no matter what. I will not accept Olivia!"
Megan and Tom continued walking and talking. Suddenly, they heard Olivia's voice. "This maid seems to be having bad luck. If left unattended, it could have serious consequences for the family's finances. Dad, I can help, but it will cost $6,000." Megan and Tom turned to see Olivia conversing with a maid named Wendy Baker. Olivia extended six fingers toward Kenneth, her face determined.
Olivia intervened with Wendy because of her bad luck, prioritizing important matters now that she had dealt with an irrelevant individual. Despite rejoining the Sinclair family, Olivia had never been one to ask for money from others. This presented a unique opportunity for her to dispel the bad luck while also earning money for her college expenses.
Even though she was Kenneth's biological daughter, he still owed her. Kenneth and Alexander were taken aback by Olivia's sudden shift in topic. Fortune-telling and Olivia were not typically associated, so they assumed Olivia was experiencing financial difficulties and used fortune-telling as a pretext to ask for pocket money. They had a twinge of sympathy for her.
The Sinclair children were never short of their six-thousand-dollar allowance.
Alexander quickly took out his phone to transfer money to Olivia. "Will 6,000 be enough? I will send you 20,000. If you need anything else, just ask," he said, acting before Kenneth. Kenneth, with a serious expression, reached for his phone, intending to transfer $60,000 to Olivia, surpassing Alexander's offer.
Alexander suddenly realized he did not have Olivia's contact information. Olivia immediately sensed their mutual misunderstanding.
"I'm serious," Olivia explained.
"I know," Alexander said with a tolerant smile.
Wendy returned to reality and spoke cooperatively: "Ms. Sinclair, you're saying I have bad luck. Can you help me get rid of it?"
Olivia was speechless, wondering, 'Can't they respect my profession?' However, she was no stranger to such situations. She was about to respond when a sneer interrupted her.
"How can you be so shameless to scam your family with such inferior methods, all for a measly 6,000," Tom complained, looking down on Olivia despite her recent reprimand.
Megan quickly intervened and apologized for Tom's outburst. "Tom didn't mean to say that about you. Don't blame him."
Olivia merely cast a brief glance at them before returning her attention to Wendy. "You are destined for a limited time with your husband and should have been widowed young, but you have a son. Based on your appearance, his problems are most likely financial in nature."
Olivia, not a physiognomy expert, could only offer a basic analysis. Despite this, Wendy was visibly surprised, particularly when Olivia mentioned the link between misfortune and wealth, which caused Wendy to fluster for a moment.
"In theory, your bad luck shouldn't affect the Sinclair family, but I detect a slight connection, as if you've stolen our wealth luck," Olivia said with a smile.
Wendy's body trembled instantly. She thought to herself, 'This cannot be true. How could she have known about that? It is impossible.' Kenneth and Alexander assumed Olivia was joking, but her serious demeanor and subsequent words convinced them otherwise.
Megan observed Wendy's reaction with surprise. "Are you saying Wendy stole from the family?" Megan appeared shocked and quickly defended Wendy, saying, "Wendy would never do that. There must be some misunderstanding. She has been with the Sinclairs for nearly a decade. How could she do such a thing?"
Wendy, who was initially anxious, immediately assumed a victimized expression after hearing Megan's words. She said sadly, "Ms. Sinclair, you cannot simply accuse me like this. How could I steal from the Sinclairs? Everyone here knows me. I'm not capable of such a thing." She looked at Tom and pleaded, "Mr. Tom, please believe me. I could never do that. I..." She covered her face, almost in tears.
Tom, who was impulsive for his age and had been cared for by Wendy since childhood, glared at Olivia, his voice filled with rage, and exclaimed, "Who do you think you are? How could Wendy steal from us? Today is your first day back, Olivia. You know nothing about our family, but you accuse her like this to trick Uncle Kenneth into giving you money. Is that really necessary?" Tom saw Olivia as a stranger, whereas Wendy had been with the Sinclairs for a decade. Naturally, he trusted Wendy more.
As the situation worsened, Tom's dislike for Olivia grew. Megan followed suit, saying, "There must be a misunderstanding here. Did Wendy do anything to upset you?" She implied Olivia was abusing her position to exact personal revenge on Wendy.
Wendy appeared to grasp something and burst into tears as she heard this. "Ms. Sinclair, I know you were upset because Ms. Parker mistook me for your birthmother. I am of low status. I don't deserve to be compared to someone like you. It's understandable that you're angry. But you can't smear my reputation like this. I'm old, and your accusations could ruin my life."
