Chapter 9 Luck Transfer Card
Wendy hadn't realized it before, but she now understood Kayla and Nicole's intentions. In this moment, she offered a plausible explanation to reveal Olivia's slander. As soon as she spoke, Tom realized there was a reason for Olivia's accusations. He gave Olivia a disgusted look and began scolding her, "You're being petty. Wendy has not wronged you. Why would you do that? It's only your first day back, and you're already causing trouble. You're..."
Before he could finish the word "troublemaker," a voice beside him said, calmly but authoritatively, "Tom." Tom fell silent with that one simple call. He looked at Alexander, noting that his once warm smile had turned cold. Tom immediately recoiled and chose to remain silent. Nevertheless, his dissatisfaction with Olivia persisted.
Wendy regained her confidence after Tom defended her.. At this moment, she was full of confidence. She stood tall, visibly upset by the unjust accusation. "If you doubt me, Ms. Sinclair, search my room! I'm honest and upright, and I have nothing to hide! Although I am a maid, I will not tolerate such unfair treatment!"
The commotion attracted the attention of the servants and Zach, who gathered cautiously around to listen from a distance. They began to understand the situation and developed a shared dissatisfaction with Olivia, who had recently returned. Despite her wealthy background, her arrogance and contempt for the maids and servants tarnished their perception of her.
Olivia became unfavorable.
Kenneth, noticing the servants' reactions, looked at Olivia with a serious expression, ready to intervene and put an end to the commotion. However, Olivia spoke again, slowly saying, "When did I accuse her of stealing money?" Her words astounded everyone present.
Tom couldn't help but ask, "You accused Wendy of stealing money just now. Are you denying it now?"
Olivia glanced at him. "I said she stole the Sinclair family's fortune."
Megan mentioned Wendy stealing money. Whether intentional or not, her words misled everyone.
"Stealing fortune and stealing money are two different things."
At the very least, the former cannot be searched for directly. That was why Wendy dared to suggest searching her room right now. However, Tom was perplexed. He believed Wendy was being evasive. "How can luck in wealth be stolen? You're just bluffing by mentioning these mysterious things."
Alexander gave him a warning look. Despite his suspicions that Olivia was bluffing because of her status, Alexander had a hunch that her words were true. While the wealthy circle respected fortune-telling, Olivia, who was only eighteen, made Alexander wonder if she truly understood such matters. Nonetheless, he did not dismiss her words as nonsense, as the others had.
Olivia, unconcerned about Tom, returned her attention to Wendy, suddenly pointing to a specific spot. "What did you bury over there?" She gestured toward a flower garden in the corner, which she had noticed earlier when Wendy was distracted from her task. Wendy, who was already feeling uneasy, noticed Olivia accurately pinpointing the location. Her heart raced, and cold sweat threatened to run down her forehead. She couldn't help but think, 'No, it can't be. Is she really aware... How is this possible?
Kenneth became convinced of something as he watched Wendy's reaction. He turned to Zach next to him and gestured. "You go." Zach, intrigued, immediately followed Olivia's lead, while the spectators trailed behind, reaching the edge of the flower garden. Some were intrigued, but Tom remained skeptical, joining in to witness Olivia's alleged trickery. Olivia pointed to the flowerbed containing a specific bloom. Zach squatted down and began digging through the mud with a small shovel.
Wendy's face turned pale, and her legs trembled beneath her. Despite the focus on Zach, no one noticed her distress.
Zach's task was simple because the soil in the garden was regularly turned over. After a few shovels, he uncovered a small hole. The shovel then struck something, which surprised him.
"I've found something!" Zach exclaimed, revealing a tightly sealed black plastic bag. As he attempted to unwrap it, a noxious odor emanated from the paper package inside.
Zach frowned at the smell and hesitated to touch it, but Olivia intervened, saying, "Don't touch it." The others turned to see Olivia approaching with a magic card, which she affixed to the paper package. In an apparent magical twist, the paper quickly deteriorated upon contact with the card.
Zach, wearing gloves, cautiously opened the paper package after Olivia nodded. Its contents were eerie, resembling wizards' records of individuals. The writings, which appeared to be inscribed in blood, had dried and turned black, emitting a foul odor. Inside, there were strands of hair and a magic card with cryptic symbols.
The unsettling discovery suggested a deliberate burial, echoing Olivia's previous remarks. However, onlookers remained skeptical of its claimed ability to steal wealth.
Tom, visibly surprised by the discovery, shifted his gaze to Wendy, his expression questioning.
Wendy's trembling lips betrayed her innocence. "I didn't bury it. I have not seen these things... Mr. Tom, Ms. Turner, you have to believe me..."
Tom was about to respond when Olivia calmly interrupted, "Check the surveillance around the villa, and we'll know if it was you who buried them." She'd already done her own investigation. The Sinclair Villa's surveillance coverage extended to almost every corner, ensuring a thorough investigation.
"The Lucky Transfer Card must be inscribed with the transferee's blood, which is yours. And the hair in the package belongs to the Sinclairs. You used a Sinclair family member to take advantage of our good fortune. Am I wrong?"
When Wendy heard these words, she trembled and collapsed to the ground. Observing her reaction, the assembled individuals concluded that she was the one who buried the package. It was easy for Wendy to get a strand or two of hair from the Sinclair family members. However, the origins of the hair remained unknown.
"Even if she buried it, this does not imply that she stole the so-called luck in wealth. Maybe..." Tom tried to intervene, hoping to defend Wendy, but Alexander silenced him with a cold stare.
"Shut up. Do not make me repeat myself."
