Chapter 12
Isabella's POV
"Don't limit yourself with that kind of thinking." Mia's voice sounded in my head. "Did you forget what you promised me before?"
I just felt as if I had suddenly woken up from a nap and my mind was clear.
Yes, I did promise Mia.
"I understand, and I'm going to stay here. I have to make those people recognize me, and that's something I can't run away from." I clenched my fists.
"You've grown up." She sighed visibly, but her tone was full of relief. "Remember, you must not be bothered by such things."
I understood that this was the only way for me to continue living here, so after that I took seriously all the tasks that Elijah gave me and if possible, I helped people around me as much as possible.
Gradually, I found that those who were not very fond of me had changed their attitude towards me.
It really seemed that I had become the Luna they recognize.
But more than that, I cared about Maria, who was following me all the time, like she was one of my tails, following me closely.
But she didn't bother me, and even helped me with some things. It made me think of my best friend Emma, who doesn't even seem to be able to do this one.
Although we were barely friends, that didn't mean I accepted Maria well. After all, she had challenged me to take Elijah away from her.
But, her personality is just so endearing!
Maria is very sincere with people, and her words and actions don't let people step into any traps. And sincerity is really the most valuable thing in this world.
We were staying together and I was filling my own plate with vegetable salad.
Maria gestured to the plate in front of me. "Elijah hated brussels sprouts when he was a kid, so he would make a point of picking them all out. And of course no one had to ask him to eat it, except now I guess he still has the same habit, so you can try it."
I grew up in an orphanage with fewer supplies, and these things still made me curious. How could anyone be picky about their food?
But when this happened to Elijah, it sounded cute.
We made baked apple pie last night, but for mine I added some kale in the middle.
The moment he saw those green vegetable balls, his face became gloomy. It was like the sky before a rainstorm.
"Pfft." I couldn't hold in my laughter and slumped over the whole thing on the table.
Oh my God! It's true what Maria said was right! When it came to the bok choy, Elijah turned into a poor little wolf cub!
"Who told you about this?" His voice sounded very helpless.
Before I could react, I found myself picked up by him and my entire body was on Elijah's lap. His hands were on my hips, which made me blush and burn.
"Slap!" Then he slapped my ass not too gently. It didn't really hurt, but it shamed the hell out of me.
I squirmed restlessly, trying to escape from the situation. But the force in his hands was particularly strong, and I had to continue lying here.
Because of his touch, my body was tingling all over.
"It doesn't seem to work like that, Maria will teach you badly." Elijah muttered.
The good thing was that he only gave me two token blows before he picked me up again and laid me back on the bed.
"Does it still hurt?"
His expression was no longer as gloomy as it was just now, and he even started to become aggrieved, like an abandoned little wolf cub, "Do you think I'm childish for not loving greens?"
"No, I was just, well, surprised." I answered honestly. "I'll never do that again, I swear to the Moon Goddess!"
"All right, damn brussels sprouts," he grumbled childishly, "but you and Maria will have to be separated. Starting from tomorrow she'll be at the town water source, and neither of you will have a chance to see each other anytime soon."
"Why?" I asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Also, have you noticed how little you've even come to me in the last few days, aren't we mates?" Elijah looked extraordinarily aggrieved.
My God, he's even jealous of Maria!
"Pfft hahahahaha..."
I just felt a little funny, and I couldn't even care about the indignity of my eyes anymore.
And he turned red in the face at my laughter.
My mate, he was so cute!
Just then, there was a knock on the door and Elijah stood up and went to answer it.
It didn't take long for him to walk back in, with a strangely shaped envelope cupped in his hand.
There was a somewhat serious look on Elijah's face.
"Whose letter is it?" I asked curiously.
"It's a letter from Oliver, he says the time has come." Elijah handed the letter to me graciously. "I'm going to raid the White Birch Pack."
When I heard that, my blood was boiling for instance.
From the moment I was announced as a breeder, I had been looking forward to such a moment all the time. I only hoped that this wolf pack would be overthrown soon, so that the girls who were used as breeding tools could be truly happy.
Better, it could be destroyed at my hands.
"Let me go." I patted myself on the back and tried to join the fray. "I'll take the women warriors in the back row for support. They're trained well enough to take on a mission like this."
"Okay. Then I'll leave this task to you." He agreed with alacrity.
I was quite taken with this statement.
I knew that although they did accept me before, it was far less genuine than these direct words. I even felt my eyes flush.
This was the moment when I was truly a warrior woman!
Soon it was time to assemble. I heard them blowing the dull sounding bullhorns, which meant that soon the war would begin. I was inevitably a little nervous, but Elijah held my hand.
"Everything will turn out all right." I heard him say.
I slowly calmed down and returned to my group. I knew I couldn't mess up because I still had to lead those women warriors.
We hid near the White Birch Pack, and when the owl sounded its first hoot, all the fighters began their attack.
The men of the White Birch Pack were unprepared, and the defending warriors hastily grabbed their weapons to fend off our attack.
But it was obviously too late, the Green Creek Pack had already moved into their territory.
I was holding the rear with the warrior women, but I could just about see Elijah from my angle.
He transformed into a wolf and ran to Liam's side, weaving nimbly through the crowded, fish-like crowd.
Then Elijah pounced Liam to the ground with such force that Liam even spat out a mouthful of blood.
Liam let out a wolf howl, also transformed into a wolf, and bit towards Liam.
The situation was in a stalemate for a while, with the two giant wolves tearing and fighting each other in the middle of the field, and cracks were even smashed in the ground by their power.
I looked at Elijah worriedly, but didn't spare the enemies around me.
I also transformed into a wolf and pawed a familiar White Birch Pack werewolf to the ground.
"Isabella, it's you, the traitor!" The other party said in abhorrence.
Traitor?
I never felt like I betrayed anyone!
Just then, Elijah's familiar wolf howl sounded and I saw him wrestle Liam to the ground.
Liam fell to the ground, covered in blood.
In the wolf pack's war, this is the sign that one side has lost. There was no possibility of turning around for the wolf pack that even the Alpha had lost the battle.
I didn't have time to rejoice when I suddenly noticed a thick smoke eerily rising from around me.
"Shit!"
I quickly rushed towards that side.
The smoke cleared and Liam was no longer in the same place.
Elijah turned back into his human form, and the warriors around him choked on that smoke and coughed, and fell to their knees. I hurriedly helped Elijah up, when the keenness of the warrior but I subconsciously raised my head.
I locked eyes with Liam in the distance.
His gaze was fierce, as if he wanted to take my life. He gestured back and forth with his hand on his neck, and I knew that he wanted my life.
I took a deep, shaky breath and quickly picked up my bow and arrow.
This was my first time experiencing such a growing scene, and I forced myself to adjust my breathing to try to stop being nervous.
He must have taken me for a traitor. If I don't get rid of him, then he will definitely come back at me!
I saw the right moment and released an arrow in the direction he left.
But apparently he was quite experienced. He flipped over to the side at an almost impossible angle, and my arrow was completely let down.
But before I could react to draw my bow and arrow again, his figure completely disappeared into the forest. It was now late at night, and there was little chance we could get him back.
"Liam got away." I helplessly put away my bow and arrow and turned to look behind me. "That will become a hidden danger."
The Green Creek Pack fighters responded with a nice attitude. But they weren't what I was going to focus on. I was looking back through their crowd to see the defeated fighters.
The White Birch Pack people are looking at me with a very complicated look.
I sighed. Apparently Liam he has completely abandoned his subjects.
Without Alpha, the White Birch Pack became a scattered mess. Without a leader, the men were soon all captured and tied up by the Green Creek Pack. I looked at the increasing number of captives in front of me and felt very mixed emotions.
Originally, I was one of them.
So I could think of what they were thinking. They were wailing, afraid that they had been taken away and made slaves. Almost every member of the White Birch Pack had heard the story of the defeated pack members who were taken away and tortured to death. That's why the members of the White Birch Pack fought so hard.
"How could the powerful Alpha also fail?"
"I don't want to be tortured by them, O Moon Goddess, save us!"
They were so brainwashed that I didn't know how to explain it to them.
"Isabella--"
I suddenly heard a familiar voice. I followed the sound and looked just in line of sight with Emma in the middle of that wolf pack.
I finally found her, my best buddy!
