Chapter 23
Isabella's POV.
I know I really should take back everything I deserve, but how easy would that be?
I thought about the expressions on the faces of the shaman elders when they looked at me, and always felt that the matter was not so simple.
Besides, right now I can't quite remember what Elijah and I had gone through. It's just that in this case, I don't think it matters that much anymore.
"As long as we can prove that we did encounter the monster, things should be a lot easier." I stepped forward and ripped the incisor off the blood-sucking bat lying on the ground.
"Otherwise the theory with those elders of the wizard will consume us greatly."
I am going to take it back as a token. At the very least it will prove that what I said is true.
Elijah's worried emotions came over the companion link. But then he looked back at me with a look of determination in his eyes.
I knew that he was going to be with me through it all.
"I'll clean up the scene." Elijah dug a hole and buried the entire bat in it.
The place where the blood-sucking bats have been buried is unable to grow any plants for two years at the very least. But after all, this is already the least impactful way.
"About those elders ...... I've come up with a little solution now. I just don't know if it will work." I took a deep breath.
Soon we were back in the shaman's tribe. Along the way we came across the bodies of many animals that had been attacked. This proved that a few blood-sucking bats must have come. In this case, the whole tribe of witches was in danger.
"Look, someone's back!"
"Why not my son? Oh my God ......"
"Did you meet anyone on the road?"
I saw everyone waiting anxiously. But when I saw that the person who appeared was me, many people inevitably had a little disappointment on their faces.
"We ran into a monster and almost died." I made myself look as pathetic as possible.
After talking to them for a long time, I was able to get a little bit of inside information.
We had been gone for a full day, which was indeed still within the range of normal patrols. But the two groups of patrols that went out before us did not return with anyone.
This way they are most likely no longer in this world.
"Haven't you heard that there are monsters around here lately? How dare you go out, it is also really remarkable, do not continue to give us trouble here!" A male witch roared at me in discontent.
"I'm sorry, but it's my job to patrol." I explained to him as sincerely as I could.
For them it was obvious that I was going out to get them in trouble. But they completely forgot that it was they who arranged for me to go on this patrol.
"Come on, it's not useful to blame her. She is also a victim. Rather than that, let's discuss what we should do next."
The voice sounded obviously a little angry, but also forced to remain calm. After the man spoke, everyone returned to their posts and did what they were supposed to do.
I followed their gaze.
In that group I saw the elder I knew best, James, who was the only one who agreed to live here with my aunt when I first came to the pack, and that was in large part because he was also very young.
It was also because he was young enough to be very noticeable in that group of pale elders. He looked over at me and stood with his finger on his lips, signaling me to keep quiet.
At the very least, he's been kind of nice to me for the time I've been here. So I decided to listen to him so once.
"I think we should send a wizard to the site of the incident to check it out properly, and absolutely nothing should be left out. If it's because of those blood-sucking bats, that's really serious." One of the elders suggested.
"Those crows should be recalled straight away, the tribal gates closed and the magic array opened! Can't let any of them go through that pain of losing their loved ones again!"
"We should contact the other tribes and tell them about this kind of thing ......"
"We have people of other races here now, do you think this will not bring trouble to yourselves?"
Obviously, the elders themselves could not fully agree.
I quietly yanked Elijah back, trying to pull away from the chaos.
"I say, why don't we hear from someone who has experienced it firsthand? See if what she met is not one of the terrible monsters we are talking about?"
I had just taken a step when I heard James' voice.
I could only turn around and meet the scrutiny of those elders. From their bodies, I felt a strong sense of oppression.
"We know, and we killed one. That's why we've been out all night." I held up my hand and showed them what I was holding.
"This is the tooth of a blood-sucking bat. You can come and verify it."
Those elders obviously didn't believe it too much. They looked at each other and I think they were using telepathy to communicate with each other.
But it must not have said anything good.
"Isabella does have a good point." James waved his hand. A huge black cat came to my feet. I tucked my teeth into the pouch on its collar. It wiggled its tail and took a step back to James.
"Good boy, thank you. Now let's see what kind of monster tooth this is." James cradled the kitten in one hand while casually dropping the tooth into the crucible with the other.
He chanted an incantation that sounded almost like some kind of elven music. The tooth glowed an eerie green under the scorching flames as he chanted.
Immediately after, a blood-sucking bat shape made of smoke slowly emerged in the air and swooped ferociously towards me.
I subconsciously raised my hand, but it was pulled behind me by a figure.
"Don't get too nervous, it's just a phantom. It will point to the person who attacked it." James let out a "wow". Then he waved his hand, and the phantom disappeared.
"It looks like you two were right, it did give it a fatal blow. It really is remarkable." He said extremely quickly.
"It was well done, which is something we don't usually get to do."
The other wizards around them all gathered around that crucible. They looked at the teeth in there and kept exclaiming.
"These are indeed the teeth of a blood-sucking bat!"
"But hasn't this kind of demonic creature disappeared for years, so how did it suddenly appear again?"
"Someone has to take care of this! As soon as possible! Otherwise the wizards may all perish because of this!"
Those elders were like noodles boiling in a pot, boiling up once again.
I think now it's time for me to show myself. Because I saw James' hand gesture. His hand sliced forward, which is the "forward" gesture in wizardry.
"I think I should be able to take this assignment, no one knows them better than I do." I raised my hand as high as I could and recommended myself to them.
"I fought it and I managed to survive ......"
The room fell completely silent and they all turned their heads to look at me in unison. It was as neat as a meerkat out in the sun. Elijah beside me just turned to look at me, but moved his mouth but did not speak.
I can feel his concern. But more than that, I believe he is able to trust me more.
"This matter will be left to powerful wizards. isabella, you have not fully recovered from your illness, you should stay home to recuperate." One of the elders said.
Several witches came up to me as if they wanted to take me away by force.
"No, I know who I am now." I insisted, and refused to accept the assistance of the two witches beside me.
I looked firmly at the elders, trying to look a little more credible.
"Memory loss is the only thing that ails me. Once I cure this, I'm a healthy wizard, so wouldn't I be qualified to participate in this hunt?"
This time, they were completely quiet.
"You said, you remembered who you are?" They looked at me in confusion. "You didn't even know what you were when you first came here, and in such a short time, you've managed to recover to this extent?"
Yeah, I don't believe that either. But that's the power of that connection I have with Elijah.
I grabbed his hand and held it up high. The faces of those elders couldn't have been more ugly.
"Yes. I am Luna of the Green Creek Pack. So technically speaking, I do have the right to confer with you guys when a demonic creature like a bloodsucking bat appears." Before they could react, I quickly added.
This is the consensus between the werewolves and the wizards. When the vampire bats appear, the two races will unite to fight them. Both the Alpha of the werewolf and the patriarch of the wizard have the right to participate in the decision making.
And Luna the werewolf has the same rights as the Alpha.
They turned their heads to look at the expressions of the other elders beside them, trying to find a little help in them. Only James was still staring at me. He was frowning with a very complicated expression.
"But ......" apparently those people still don't quite agree with the idea.
"Amnesia proves a lack of ability. It would ultimately be a dereliction of duty to allow you to participate in the search if you cannot prove that you have fully recovered your sentience." James took out a crystal ball from under his broad robe, and a roll of parchment.
The parchment was slowly revealing the appearance of a large number of people. Roughly looking over, I did not know exactly who they were.
"All you have to do is give an evaluation of the people inside. The wizard gods will tell us if you've recovered or not." James' voice came from behind me. He sounded particularly relaxed.
The gods would know who I had actually met and give those people a comment. This evaluation is exactly what I subconsciously give them.
But if I have amnesia, I am not going to remember what I rated them.
A cold sweat ran down the corner of my forehead.
If I can't prove that I've recovered, then there is no way for me to leave here. There is no way to even follow them out for the adventure.
What is the difference between that and being locked up here.
