Chapter 38
Elijah's POV.
My arm hurt like it was on fire, and the fur smelled pungent after it burned. I even suspected that my arm had been cooked.
In this moment, I even wondered if I could find any way to keep Isabella alive.
"Don't be too pessimistic, I don't think it's impossible to try to hide a little. I just don't know when this test will end." The wolf's voice sounded inside my head.
The time limit for this test is three hours, and as long as we survive we are considered victorious. But this is only an hour at most.
What should we do with the rest of the time?
In the midst of the confusion, I heard Isabella's voice.
"That's an underground river down there, I'm 100% sure of that. But there's certainly no way for the two of us to smash it open right now, it's still up to it." Her voice sounded very confident.
Her confident and powerful look is always fascinating.
"Good job, our luna!" the wolf appreciated her inside my head.
"Of course I know, she's definitely the best." I breathed a sigh of relief. Since she was now in the mood to designate a strategy, she must not have been particularly badly injured. The question now became who should be the decoy.
"You hide, and I'll draw it in." She continued.
This is something I can't agree with, because it's clear that I brought him into this dispute.
"No, let me do it." I refuse to let her take this.
"You can't use your arm anymore, so that's something that has to be done by me." Isabella insisted.
"I have a better chance of surviving than you do."
I have to admit that she has a very good point. I could barely get over the pain from the burns in this situation.
"Be safe." I felt my words were too pale.
She rushed out of the ground like a blue-gray bolt of lightning.
"Roar!" That dragon couldn't stop roaring. It desperately flew towards Isabella's direction, but no matter what it did, it couldn't burn Isabella.
For some reason, this dragon was incredibly bad at both fire and flight, even worse than Isabella's big crow. But because of this, it was soon attracted by Isabella to fall into her trap.
"Now!" Isabella shouted violently at me. I pushed off a rock and smashed it directly into the gargoyle's abdomen.
"Ow!" It screamed in pain and crashed to the ground. The flash on its skin overlapped with the one on the ground, and the next thing you know, it fell straight down.
In the deep underground river, all that magma in the folds of its skin just went out like that. It lay there completely unmoving, as if it had been killed directly by the two of us.
But I didn't dare to fully relax yet, I still stood at the edge of the pit, staring at it with dead eyes.
The stone scorched by its flame showed a glass-like hue, reflecting a pale light. I saw a distorted version of myself in it. But even so, I still stared at the dragon with my afterglow.
I don't know if it was an illusion, but the dragon's expression was surprisingly a little forlorn.
"Click, click, click ......"
That door reopened and it was all over. We both transformed back into our human forms and couldn't have been more wretched.
"We made it?" She sat on the floor and looked at her arm.
My arm was burned, and her hand looked almost twisted.
I found a branch to help her fix the wound while she helped me rinse up the fabric that was stuck to my body with cold water.
Isabella was lying on a stretcher next to me and put her hand, which was still moving, on my hand. The group of us was surrounded by the nine elders.
"Welcome to you all. From today, we werewolves have eleven elders again." One of them said. He smiled at us in a friendly manner, while not far behind him was Liam with a grim expression.
I'll make him pay, but not now. I looked at the elder and smiled the same way he did.
Isabella's POV.
"This coronation ceremony is too urgent, isn't it?" I looked at the cloak in front of me with dissatisfaction.
My arm didn't fully heal, but those in the Pack who know how to cut helped me design a cape like this. I can totally put my arm in it properly without causing more damage to it during the ritual.
And I was called up early this morning to do my makeup. The nightmare about the dragon kept me up almost all night.
It just looks so miserable.
"There's no way around it, after all, if we don't hold it soon, we'll have to wait until next year. I'm afraid the White Birch Pack thing will be even harder to deal with then." Joanna explained as she helped me fix my arm.
"Usually the elders are chosen before the sacrifice to the moon goddess."
I could only respond. The only way I could handle Liam and the White Birch Pack was to become an Elder as soon as possible. The longer we delayed the more dangerous it would be.
I cocked my head and hid my expression well. I was afraid that Joanna would see my expression.
"There you go, our queen. Are you ready?" She lifted her head in delight. I did a good job of disguising my expression the moment she looked up.
She ducked out of my way and I saw myself in the mirror.
My hair was carefully hiked and combed into a beautiful braid coiled on my head. And I was wearing a beautiful long dress.
"This makeup looks good on your complexion, and that girl has great makeup skills." Joanna looked on approvingly.
"The alpha dress matches yours very well ......"
I didn't hear what she said after that, but I don't think it should be considered particularly nice.
"Knock, knock, knock."
"I'll get you." Elijah said from the other side of the door.
His clothes are indeed the same color as mine, which makes us both look especially good when we stand together. People around us also kept praising.
I took his hand in mine. Together, we both walked forward down that carpet.
We both stood together in front of everyone from Green Creek Pack and White Birch Pack.
This scene is actually very similar to that coronation ceremony in my dream. In the dream, I was also standing with Elijah, receiving worship from the wolves.
Only unlike that one, at that time I did not have a crown on my head, which symbolizes the status of elders, and I did not have so many elders in front of me.
"What's on your mind?" Elijah looked at me with a smile on his lips, curious.
"You look like you have a lot on your mind."
"You remember what I said about that coronation, right?" I cocked my head and looked at him.
In the dream, I stood beside him in a gown too beautiful to wear and was announced as his luna.
He passed on a little bit of guilt. So I opened my mouth before he did.
"Actually, I was thinking I'd prefer to stand with you as an elder than a wedding." I looked over at him.
Our conversations take place in partner links, so other people don't know what we're thinking.
"Sure." He looked at me the same way.
"It's an honor to co-manage the Pack with you."
I held his hand. From today onwards, the two of us will rule this wolf pack together as two elders.
Soon the ceremony was over. I was removing my makeup and talking to the people around me.
"So, what about the White Birch Pack?"
"It was just a straightforward re-vote, but now it has become very complicated." The young elder explained to me.
And because we both became elders, many matters will need to be settled again. So everything not related to those will be scheduled to be settled much later.
Even if Liam didn't want to, he would have to stay here and watch us both get better and better.
"Will he run away?" I whispered to myself as I looked at Liam's back in the distance.
"The possibility is very low. Look around here, there are some masters." Mia gave an opposing view.
Those aren't just from the Green Creek Pack, but even those who follow along beside the elders who are on our side.
I feel much more at ease when I see this situation.
This way it is absolutely impossible for him to escape.
A beautiful cake was suddenly placed in front of me. I felt his emotions from the mate link, so I knew it must be him.
"We'll take care of Liam's business. It's already being put together." Elijah handed me the cake.
I popped it into my mouth. The sweet cream made me feel a little better, but still not much better.
"It's not just that. I just thought of that dragon, and it looks miserable." I answered truthfully.
"It really isn't doing too well." The elder from earlier came up to my side again.
The real age of that dragon is not very old, because he wakes up almost only when this test opens.
But it is also clear that such a life is not free at all.
"Can I let that dragon go?" I turned my head to look at him.
"Of course you can, but you have to come up with a more suitable method to do so." That elder took a stack of books and put them in front of me.
"If you can figure out the right way to do it, we won't have a problem with it. In fact, as you can see, that mountain forest has been badly affected by that dragon. If you can get rid of it, it would be a very good thing."
I flipped open the book. What was written there were all those ways of testing elders that had ever existed. There was no shortage of tests that sounded particularly outrageous.
"I choose this one, is it okay?" I held the book out to that elder.
"Of course, Isabella. so you go deal with that dragon next."
Once again, I went back inside that cave. The traces of our last fight still lingered clearly. The dragon, on the other hand, was lying on a flat piece of ground not far away. The injury on his wing had worsened, which made it look more like it couldn't fly.
"Hello?" I stood beside the dragon.
"I want to ask you if you want to get out of here."
Based on that information, I now know that it was actually a very young dragon boy. But too much detailed information is no longer available.
"You've hit me hard." He opened his mouth and opened it in a voice that was comparable to a subwoofer.
"Can you get me out of here?"
