Chapter 31

Elijah's POV.
I certainly know how difficult it really is to become a new elder. Not only does this matter require having gone through a test, but one must also have the bloodline of the top Alpha.
And because it is so difficult, the alphas who have historically dared to take the elders' test are not particularly numerous.
"I never said I was the best one, but wouldn't it be worse if you didn't even dare to try? And how can you say that about me?" I asked him with a smile.
I saw that in this case, there were many people on stage who could not hold their breath anymore, their almost painful, holding their smiles shoulders shrugged along with them.
And opposite Liam did look like he was thinking, he didn't even answer at all, I, guess he was totally afraid to participate in the elders' test.
"What Elijah said makes perfect sense, so Liam are you going to take the elders' test?" One of the elders standing on Elijah's side reached out and pointed at Liam, who was not far away.
"He wanted to die, there was no need to take me with him." Liam's face got noticeably a little worse.
"That's not bravery, that's stupidity. I'm a successful leader, so I'm smart enough."
The folks at White Birch Pack apparently took that well, howling and barely able to contain themselves.
"Our Alpha is indeed the most powerful and wise!"
"Not like some idiot who can't fight and has no brain!"
As for Liam and I, I know there's not so much as a hint of conflict between the two of us.
But I clearly saw the elders who had been on Liam's side, their expressions became significantly worse.
Everyone here knows that if I become an elder, then I also have the right to dispose of Liam. That would leave less power in their hands, and there is a good chance that I would retaliate against them.
I'm guessing they might even go dark and wouldn't want me to live in this situation at all.
"I think I should also have the qualifications to participate in the test. Although I am not an Alpha, I am Elijah's Luna." Isabella stepped forward. She did not look at me, but directly at the elders.
"No!" I yelled at her desperately in my mate link.
This thing, no matter how you look at it, is big and probably going to get killed, and I don't want her to get involved.
If I don't have the means to protect my partner, then I'm really an unqualified Alpha too.
"Stay and lead our Pack, they need a leader and you're the right one." I tried to find a new reason to convince her.
"Don't forget we got a blessing from the wizard." Isabella shook her head and stood firmly in front of me.
"I am not a fragile doddering flower, I am not that powerless. I will fight together with you. Besides, if you die, how will I live alone in this world? This is not something that you alone can do, don't try to stop me." Her tone sounded quite serious.
Then there was no way I could refuse her.
Further away, Liam's expression was still very calm. I knew he should not believe that we two could pass this test at all, and might even be a little smug.
After all, if my Pack collapses, then the biggest beneficiary will be him.
"Yes, this is also in accordance with the regulations, then the two of you we will choose the right time to open the door of the examination path for the two of you." Those elders looked at the two of us, and their expressions even had more than a hint of pity.
Isabella's POV:
This so-called test started in a cave.
I stood beside Elijah, slowly transforming into my wolf form.
The sense of smell instantly became acute. I knew that behind this iron door stood the most powerful warrior among the ten werewolves.
"The rule is, you have to get the badges on them. See the mechanism on the ground? Just rip off one of the biggest ones and you're done. Of course the two smaller ones will do the job just as well." Not far away, the radio came ringing.
Those warriors were very tall. I guessed they might have been close to two meters tall, which made them look like huge mountains.
The rule of this battle is that we have to get a piece of the badge from them. But the way this is going, they will only get bigger after they turn into their werewolf form.
It's like those bears I used to fight.
But whether it's taking one badge from the top three warriors at the front or two from the relatively weaker ones at the back, it's not an easy task.
I have a feeling that maybe even Elijah and I will die here like this. But we should stick it out anyway, for the sake of our Pack.
"Then, the examination will now begin!" An elder violently blew the bullhorn.
"Roar!"
Ten of them rushed towards us together.
It was like a volcanic eruption that shook beneath our feet. Elijah and I also quickly transformed into our wolf forms.
"We can't let them completely surround us, that has absolutely no chance of winning." Elijah sent me a message in the companion link.
"Let's go to the right, that cliff on the right looks solid!" I said as I surged upward.
"Dang!"
Just as soon as my tail swept into this narrow gap, the huge wolf behind me rushed over. But his head was too big and bulky, which made it almost completely impossible for him to get into this narrow hole.
The two of us stood high up and watched them from the stage.
The platform was too small for them to jump up. But if they keep trying, they'll keep hitting the stone wall above!
If they keep moving like this, they will make the stone wall above collapse down and we will both be buried here as well.
"I'll cover for you." I said to Elijah.
"You go and rip the badge off the one closest to us."
"Wait a minute, let me go!" I knew how dangerous this was. But before I could react, he had already rushed out. The warriors tried to catch him and tear him apart, but he escaped almost every time.
But once, they caught him on the back foot.
"No!" I said and rushed out.
"Wait a little longer, it's still too far from that location!" Elijah's voice came through to stop me.
But I just couldn't bear to see Elijah treated that way anymore.
I dodged out from behind Elijah and slammed into the stomach of the man in front of me. His claws slashed hard at me, but it was as if I felt no pain.
The badge that was stuck to his hair just fell off and was kicked into the organ that we put on the ground.
"You lose." I grinned at the warrior.
I know I must look pretty ugly right now. A wolf with blood all over its face opened its mouth wide, more like it was about to open its mouth and bite someone than laugh.
The sound of the machine turning sounded. The door behind the cave opened, I looked at the long-lost sunlight again throat a sweet, coughing out a mouthful of blood.
But in any case, the matter is over.
After a long time, I realized that there were people standing outside the door. Those were clearly the elders.
"You can rest for three days first." The elder in charge looked at us with a very cold expression.
I knew we must face a more demanding test after three days, but the important thing now was to get some rest. Elijah and I turned back into our human forms and dragged our tired bodies towards our quarters.
I hardly want to deal with anything anymore.
"Isabella, the girl you brought back is awake. She says she wants to see you." The female doctor I had sent to find the girl walked up to me and handed me a towel.
"Okay, I'll go over there later and check it out." I answered her quickly.
"No. Her identity is still uncertain, and we need to be a little cautious." Elijah clearly disagreed with me.
"I'll stay in the dark room next to that ward. If there is any accident, I will be the first to rush over."
I wanted to refuse, but looking at his face, I simply could not say "no" to the words.
"Sure. Then I need to set it up properly to make sure he doesn't get another ...... from your presence," I still remembered how Elijah acted the last time I saw her.
"I understand, I will hide my scent." He said, turning around and entering the room with the one-way glass.
"Squeak." I pushed open the door of that ward.
The girl was sitting on the bed like a tiny mushroom.
Only when she heard my voice did she look up at me.
Her eyes were red as if she had been crying, and in this case, the purple bruises on her arms became more and more obvious.
The whole house smelled like drugs. I couldn't help but frown.
"Hello, I'm here."
"You used to be a member of the White Birch Pack, didn't you? I remember meeting you." Her voice was very husky.
I froze, staring at her face.
I used to be an orphan and wasn't exactly brilliant. I didn't know a lot of people.
"Yes, I am." I answered cautiously.
"This thing was supposed to be my scar, and I wanted to swallow it permanently, but seeing what you guys did the other day, I didn't think I could just leave it like that." She gripped the sheets tightly with both hands.
I understood what she was going to say. Looking at her in such a state of pain, I held his hand.
"You need to stop forcing yourself to think about it, we have a solution." I smooth her breath.
"You don't need to comfort me, I understand how difficult this matter is, those elders will definitely be on Liam's side, they will definitely veto your idea."
She is very thorough about this matter.
I didn't answer, because I knew she was right.
As long as the elders have been on Liam's side, he is at the very least not subject to any particularly severe sanctions. Even if we eventually win in this matter, it is only so he can no longer rebuild the White Birch Pack.
"Actually, I was sent to those elders by Liam, as a plaything."
My eyes widened in shock when I heard the news.
I see, no wonder the elders are on Liam's side!
She looked at me with determination in her eyes and tugged on my hand again.
"If there is anything I can do to help, please do let me know. I want to make them pay for it."
