Chapter 47
Isabella's pov.
A different finger doesn't just bring strange looks, it brings a lot of trouble. I am sure that this child has the same disease as his brother.
"I've done so much already, just let me die on my own, you leave me alone!" But after a brief pause, he started to go crazy again. He gripped the glass of water in front of him and almost threw it straight to the ground.
He suddenly plopped down on the table and bared his teeth like he was about to come up and bite someone. I turned my head and looked in the direction he was looking.
"Being the Luna and Alpha of this pack, we are the ones responsible for your life." Elijah was standing outside the door, looking at us indifferently.
He's the one putting the pressure on!
I looked at him with immense gratitude. I really don't know what I would have done if he hadn't come.
Elijah's pov.
"Such a dangerous person, you should get rid of him." I used the companion link to talk to her.
He wasn't a very good friend to live with, either for those little White Birch Pack girls or for Isabella.
"Yes, but I still want to help him, and it's our responsibility to do so. We can't expel a person with a huge hidden problem. Did you forget that even Liam was checked to be completely healthy when he left!" She responded.
Yes, that does seem to be a problem. I had almost forgotten about it.
"So we still have to get to those mushrooms first." She turned her head to look inside the house. The boy had almost fallen to the floor because he couldn't move.
I suddenly remembered that people here actually call him "Spider Hand", and everyone has forgotten his real name. If he hadn't done this, it would have been as if he had never existed.
Even when he had followed Alex, not many people wanted to talk to him. That's why people didn't suspect him at all in the beginning.
"First we need to find some people who are willing to come with us to that mountain forest." I helped her close the door.
Soon we both arrived at the training site for the warriors. We made it clear what we needed and wanted someone to come forward.
"This must be a poor man." I heard some of the girls say. They all thought it was one of the poor people who helped them prepare the meal.
But it's not, but I don't want to tear them down, so I just pretend I didn't hear that.
"Let's go." The White Birch Pack girls, who had just learned a few days of fighting skills, raised their hands.
"We want to do something for this place."
What else can I say? I had to take them with me in this situation. And on top of that I brought some of the other warriors with me. Thus the whole picking party was assembled.
"But they could be in danger like that." I asked Isabella's opinion.
It's just too dangerous. That's the jungle!
"They'll do." Isabella replied to me in the companion link, followed by her shoving the bows into everyone's hands one by one.
"I don't need you guys to jump too high, you just make sure you fight off those big vultures that are attacking me."
The girls were obviously a little more energetic because they had been assigned such a task. They held their bows and crossbows happily testing them, looking surprisingly a little more powerful than those warriors.
Isabella's pov.
I know all too well what these girls need. They need affirmation, and more than anything, they need a position where they can live a normal life. That's why I decided to bring them in search of these mushrooms.
But until I actually got here, I didn't know that the path actually really required someone to guard me with a bow for me to climb up. The wizard's magic would allow me to rise up the vertical cliffs, but it didn't drive them away.
"That would be a little dangerous." Mia sucked in a breath of cold air.
"One can only hope that their hands are steady enough."
If they produce a mistake, then it will be me who dies first.
I silently chanted the incantation in my mind. I felt myself getting lighter and lighter, and then I slowly floated into the air. I could already smell the pungent smell of the mushrooms, but they were higher up. I carefully continued to fly upward.
The rocks here are particularly fragile and will simply break apart if touched. I had to carefully control my direction.
"Look out!" I heard the man below me call out. Before I could react, a metal arrow flew past my ear and plunged directly into the shoulder of a vulture.
However, the vulture landed on the stone wall.
"No!" I cursed under my breath. Desperately, I flew upward a little more and ripped two mushrooms off. The rocks fell in bits and pieces, and even some simply hit me on the head.
"I've come this far, I can't just lose it!" I hugged it tightly. Just then, however, I suddenly felt my vision go black.
It was a huge rock. It was speeding down in my direction.
Elijah's pov.
"Use the bow to shoot the edge of that slab and make it shatter!" I shouted as loud as I could reach. If that rock landed on Isabella's head, oh my God, I shudder to think about it!
"You can't jump up there, but you can throw rocks. If you jump up and touch that slab of rock, things will get worse." The wolf roared inside my head. I resisted the urge to turn into a wolf and jump up and looked at her nervously.
If only I had a crossbow too, but now I can only go pick up rocks.
All the people present were desperately using their bows. Some of the girls were already sitting on the ground because of the recoil, but they also kept going. Not a single overly large stone fell on Isabella's head. But even so, she still had some scrapes on her body.
She was flying steadily, trying to dodge the debris in the air. I couldn't help but clench my fists as well.
I hope you will bless my mate, Goddess of the Moon, and I would give my all for that!
She descended steadily until she was completely out of the threatening range of those rocks. I rushed forward to catch her and held her securely in my arms.
"Look. Got the mushrooms." She lifted her hand proudly. She was holding a clump of mushrooms tightly in her gloved hand. Those mushrooms were emitting a pungent smell, and my instincts belonging to a werewolf persuaded me to stay away from it.
"Of course, I know, I know ......" I didn't pay any attention, I just stubbornly hugged her.
Almost, I was about to lose her again.
We made a quick return trip. But on the way, I could clearly feel the difference from the way I came. The White Birch Pack girls had grown accustomed to the company of the Green Creek Pack warriors, and they were even able to discuss the use of their bows together.
"That's a good sign." Isabella muttered softly.
"As long as they have something in common with each other, then the next thing will become much easier."
I nodded my head. After all, these things can not be solved immediately, like this slowly forward is more applicable way.
"luna?"
I looked back with Isabella. The girls were huddled together in embarrassment, and pushed a little girl to the front. I stopped in my tracks while the little girl at the front took Isabella's hand.
"What? Can you scream again?" Isabella's eyes widened.
"We just think it's a little weird to call you luna, but it's not completely unacceptable ......" the girl replied, but suddenly lowered her head. With a red face, she squeezed to the end of the crowd again.
"This trust should be put to good use." Isabella said softly as she watched the girl's departing back.
"Of course. It just so happens that Alex still needs to set up their wedding site, and I think having them there should be a more appropriate situation now."
It's not a very heavy workload and it's better to have contact with people their own age. I think that's something that will help them continue to survive here.
"Sure, that's appropriate. Let's tell them now."
Isabella's pov.
"We're going to set up these flowers and put those logs on top." I pointed to the platform above. The girls jumped up very lightly. A girl with a hesitant face sneaked up to me and whispered "luna" to me.
"What's wrong?" I looked at her and really didn't know why she was acting like this.
"Trust them, luna, it's not really that easy ......" she tilted her head away from looking at me.
"I was afraid to work with them, so I came to see you."
I certainly understood what she meant by that. After all, before this they people still lived in separate isolated areas, and those areas were generally called cells by our people here.
"Yes, I understand. But just think of them as one of us, without any prejudice. And if they do not do well, you must also tell me. Understand?" I looked at her and tried to add a little bit of pressure from myself like Elijah did.
Besides, I don't make my own guarantees out of thin air. I know that those White Birch Pack girls are good at obedience. Since I said that, they have no reason to resist me. The girl in front of me nodded her head and turned towards the table where the flowers were placed.
As worried as I was, I knew it was better to give them a little time.
Next, it was time for me to check on the poor guy who had eaten the mushrooms.
"Thank you for the medicine, I feel much better." The boy was lying on the bed, and at the table was a bowl of dregs that had already been drunk.
I was satisfied that he hadn't given up on himself, but the name calling still made me feel a little uncomfortable. He didn't call me luna, which at least proves that he doesn't feel like a member of our Pack now.
But that can't be helped, there are more important things I need him to know than that.
"They have something to say to you." I stood by.
An incident of that magnitude is not something that Alex and the others can just say they forgive. But I still want to make a little effort for this.
Alex was standing behind me. He stepped forward and placed an invitation in the kid's hand.
"Come on, man. We're all waiting for you."
