Chapter 27
Isabella's POV.
Elijah and I both walked for half a day, and then we were back where we were last time. I looked at the cave next to me and remembered again what had happened here before.
But now these things can no longer make me feel embarrassed.
I knelt down to examine the marks on the ground that looked like the "fall of a winged god". Those are usually caused by birds, but the huge ones are definitely from blood-sucking bats.
There are still only the marks left from the day I fought off the vampire bats with Elijah, so this proves that indeed those things haven't come here recently.
"That's a good sign." I looked over at Elijah.
"Those monsters also have a sense of territory, and the places they have been are sure to go a second time. This means that at least this monster is definitely dead."
"At least it proves that our methods are fine." Elijah stood up. I saw that he was picking up a huge carrot. He rinsed it at the water's edge and soon the thing was back to its original color.
"What's that?" I could hardly believe my eyes. how did Elijah even take a carrot?
"If it's a long journey, carrying it will at least quench your thirst." He explained.
"Of course, it's for you."
Well, it was the same Elijah I knew, and at the very least, that was proof that he was still sane. I sighed with relief and took the carrot.
"Green Creek Pack has an agreement with this tribe of witches. No need to worry about me." He wiped his hands and rubbed my hair again.
However, my mood was not the slightest bit better for it.
The weather today was so bad that the sun could barely be seen.
"I think we should find a place to stay." I looked to the sky.
Those blood-sucking bats can show up earlier than usual. This means that tonight is going to be more dangerous than any other day in the past.
"If we're going to get to where she's going, we're only halfway here." I turned to look at Elijah.
"But this weather no longer allows us to move on."
"And there could be a lot of monsters on the way." He glanced at the sky. "I can feel it, it's definitely not going to be peaceful here. Let's go find a cave and rest until tomorrow."
That's exactly what I was going to say.
I opened the door to a room with the key the witches had given me. This house was used by the witches to rest when they used to look after the farmland, but after the appearance of the bloodsucking bats, they apparently don't come here anymore.
"There's only one bed in here." I looked to the bedpan.
Elijah's expression became complicated, but it was clear that his mood wasn't that bad.
"The point is, it may not be able to hold the weight of both of us."
"...... Well, then I think we can split the vigil." He sounded a little lost.
"That's a good idea." I pulled out the pot hanging on the wall.
I'm afraid I'll only have vegetable soup to drink tonight, so Elijah will have to nibble on the dried bread and jerky in his backpack. I silently felt sympathy for him.
"Boom, boom ......" I heard strange noises.
"What is, what is it?" I looked out the window.
It was a beast! A huge bison!
Such a huge creature, even for vegetarians, is enough to cause panic.
Hearing the sound I made, it spewed white mist from its nose, turned its head and charged towards us.
Elijah took a step forward and I knew it was a sign that he was going to turn into a wolf, but I thought it was something I could try on my own.
"No, let me try." I stopped Elijah.
He understood what I meant and moved a little further away. But still in the form of a wolf.
I raised my hands, and light blue lightning flashed in my hands. For novice wizards, it is quite dangerous to be interrupted in spell casting. But I wouldn't worry in the slightest.
He is my backbone. Here, I am no longer alone.
"Let me do it." I quieted my mind and released my magic toward it.
The huge bison floated up easily like a leaf. Immediately afterwards, it was shrunken by my whole.
I put the shrunken cow in the box and stuffed it into my backpack. Such a large cow, bring back naturally have its use.
"Wow, that's called witchcraft." Elijah looked at me in amazement.
"That's the first time I've seen someone cast a spell in front of me in its entirety." He must have been quite surprised, but was still trying to maintain the calmness that belonged to an Alpha as much as possible.
"You're really something, Isabella," he gushed, giving me a thumbs up.
"There's a cave here." I parted my head with some embarrassment, then took the lead and walked in.
"Maybe we can just sleep here at night."
Such caves usually have some traces of beasts that have lived in them, but the interior of this cave is obviously too tidy.
I don't know of anyone who has ever lived here, but apparently ......
"Ka-da."
I heard it, the sound of the mechanism turning.
The next thing I knew, the rock beneath my feet suddenly disappeared. I fell downward uncontrollably.
"Isabella!" Elijah's voice echoed behind me. But the passage was too narrow to accommodate him jumping down the same way.
"Ah ......" I covered my head. I didn't fall on the cold ground as I thought I would, but on soft straw.
This proves that the place is probably inhabited.
But what surprised me was that there were books here? How can there be books in this place?
"What man?" A crow stood in front of me, croaking and cawing.
Then it seemed to be frightened and flew violently towards the distance.
"It's a wizard and a werewolf!" It landed on a woman's shoulder and spread its wings like a dance.
Immediately afterwards, a woman came out of the shadows.
It was so dimly lit. It took me a bit of effort to realize that it was my aunt.
"Auntie!" I called out to her.
"Isabella, my baby ......," my aunt hugged me.
She looked very tired, but also did not look at all like she was imprisoned by anything.
I was wondering, I was just seeing her sigh and then pull up my hand.
"You really shouldn't have come here to see me." She turned on her side.
"I hope you can really get well from your injuries, but since you're here, there's something I'd like to show you." The aunt waved at me.
I followed her backwards.
It was a very deep cave. We walked for a long time before we could barely reach the end.
I saw books piled up like mountains.
"Actually, I'm not in danger, I'm just hiding myself, you know, no one in the wizard tribe likes you and me except James I'm afraid."
"So he's covering for you by doing that?" I could hardly believe my ears.
I was worried about her for so long, but why didn't she even tell me about it?
"If I tell you, then it will be easily exposed in your test." She could see my sadness and gently touched my shoulder with her hand.
"Because then, my evaluation in your mind will definitely change."
That way I certainly wouldn't think of her as my dearest person.
She looked at me and smiled apologetically.
"Don't say anything, just say you didn't find me, I will naturally find a way to do the next thing, I will investigate again about the blood-sucking bats, if there is any news I will find a way to inform you."
"By the way, did James give you a little something?"
I nodded, took out a very small handbag, and handed her the little ball.
"He gave me this."
She soaked it in the water and it dissolved away like a bath ball. the figure of James slowly emerged from the water.
"That's wonderful, Isabella. you accomplished your mission." He looked over at me and gave me a salute.
"Now we think that those who released the blood-sucking bats have actually invaded the elders' inner circle, and there are not many people we can trust now. So if you want to send you guys out ......"
I said worriedly, "Auntie I will stay and help you. But there is ......"
In this period of my life here, it is my aunt has been taking care of help me, I can not leave her alone here here.
I would have taken her with me if I had to go.
I saw Elijah, who was sleeping soundly, and stroked his cheek.
Soon he woke up. He looked at me with a little confusion in his eyes.
"Did something happen?" He looked at me.
"Indeed I did, I found my aunt. But she drugged you."
I felt I should tell him the real story.
"Actually, that thing doesn't work on me, and I heard everything you guys said. Whatever you decide, I'll be on your side." He laughed and slowly sat up straight.
I didn't know how I should answer him. I could only take his hand and put our hands together on my chest.
That's my answer.
We headed out into the jungle.
Because it was daylight right now, we didn't really encounter any of the so-called monsters, but we did find traces of their presence.
"There must be many of them. Look at their paw prints, they're not exactly the same size." I gestured at the marks on the ground.
This matter is as serious as we expected, so we need to find a solution to this matter more quickly now.
Following the trail, we finally found the group of wounded young wizards.
They looked like they were in shock, all wounded, and yelled at us, "Oh, it's them! Hey, werewolves, did you see anything?"
"We didn't encounter anything."
I scowled at them. But they looked clearly terrified.
"You guys are not bandaging it the right way, the blood will keep flowing." I couldn't resist correcting, "Let's do it."
The wizards were obviously not very willing to let us help. But Elijah and I still tacitly rushed up and re-dressed the wounded man's wound. This time the wound was pressed tightly and no more blood would seep out.
"But go back as soon as possible, or you're still in danger." I checked my results.
"Thank you." The wounded man answered me in a voice that could barely be heard. "Thank you for saving me."
"It's nothing. After all, we are all residents of one tribe, aren't we?" I answered him with a smile.
