Chapter 39
Isabella's POV.
"Of course. That's a promise from me, the luna and werewolf elder of the Green Creek Pack." I looked firmly at the dragon.
I was determined to set this dragon free. On the one hand I couldn't bear to put it through this torture, on the other hand I wanted to change the way the test was done.
I could see the light in his eyes. It was clear that he was expecting something from this.
"But you can't just go out there, because it's not the time for magic anymore." I looked at him.
In this era the internet has become very advanced. If he ran out like this, then he would definitely be treated as a legendary mysterious creature by others.
That would be too much trouble. Maybe the wolves' lives would be disrupted by them.
The dragon sighed, then puffed white smoke out of his nose. His body was slowly shrinking at a speed visible to the naked eye, followed by a sudden burst of white mist around him. A human figure appeared in the place where the dragon was originally lying.
It was a teenager who was described as pale. He had a beautiful red curly hair. It made him look more like a porcelain doll.
This is a huge difference from what I remember the dragons looking like in my database. I thought they were all big, strong men at least two heads taller than me.
"Even if I get free, I don't know where I'm supposed to go. This is simply the worst news I've ever heard in my life." He sighed, and immediately after that he looked up at me. Looking at my surprised expression, he suddenly laughed.
"Wait a minute, you look like you're surprised. Did you think dragons were all strong animals like that?"
I nodded my head a little harder. After all, that's what it says in the book. Even the book said that the dragon's arm might have a diameter similar to that of my head. I had done a lot of mental construction for myself, which made up my mind to communicate with him.
"It's not really wrong, it's just that I can't be considered a real dragon." He frowned.
Immediately afterwards, he told me his own story.
He was born from a dragon woman to a human man. This also means that he does have a little bit weaker abilities. And he has a stronger sense of compassion than his own kin. He is not able to spit fire around like other dragons.
"So I really can't beat you werewolves and wizards. In the times when I was still out traveling, you werewolves and wizards had just stopped fighting. Because I transformed elsewhere, I was caught by you guys. But for some reason, I was held here by the werewolves."
"I'm very sorry." I sympathize with him in this situation.
But no matter what, we are the cause of his current situation. And we should be responsible for him to the end.
"Thank you. You're one of the few wolves who's been willing to talk to me about this for years." He relaxed his sitting position a little.
"Do you want to go live in a world of witches?" I shoved a raven's tail feather into his hand.
"I've come up with a way to make it a little easier for us all."
He has magic and has superb physical strength. Then he would obviously be better suited to survive in a colony of wizards. He would be needed, and those wizards would surely be happy to offer him some position.
Elijah's POV.
Isabella has been very busy lately, but she didn't tell me what she had gone to do.
All I know is that she looked up a lot of information in the library and discussed something with some elders.
My Pack has a very long history and there are a lot of books here that you don't see in other Packs. So I didn't think there was anything there at first.
But when she started returning to her place after the sun had set, I thought it was unusual.
According to the rules we are both equally elders, so I don't really have the right to interfere with what she does. But more than that I would like her to tell me if there is anything I can do to help.
"You have no way to find out if she doesn't want to tell you, do you?" That elder looked at me as if he had a look of wanting to say something.
"Of course, that's not what I meant either. I'm just saying you can't help what she's doing right now."
This feeling made me very helpless and even a little annoyed. So much so that it made me get slammed by that big crow of Isabella's while I was out of my mind thinking.
"You don't look like you're making me happy." The crow kept repeating in a lame tone. It flapped its wings and everything that came too close to it was lifted to the ground.
See, it's starting to miss Isabella.
"It's not my fault or yours, but I'll get to her." I promised with the crow. But apparently it wasn't going to listen to me at all. I had to withdraw from the house.
"I seem to have a little understanding now of why the wizard had such a bad relationship with the werewolf before." The wolf sighed inside my head.
"Even wizards' pets are so annoying."
Of course, this crow is really annoying as hell. But I'm in no more mood to tangle with it now. I never imagined a crow's skull could be so hard. I covered my head and quickly called for Oliver.
"Just because she didn't come to you, you lost your temper with this bird of hers?" After understanding the reason, he could barely contain his laughter.
Oh, go ahead and laugh, go ahead and laugh! I pinched that crow's beak in chagrin.
"No, it's the one that's mad at me. Is its beak broken? And that's not the point." I showed him my forehead. That bird hit my head and it's still ringing.
"I just want to know what she's doing now. But she's doing such a good job of keeping it a secret."
If I had been told, at the very least she would not have had to suffer the possible consequences alone. But I think she may well really not be used to having my help.
In a sense it's kind of a dereliction of duty on my part.
"Do you think it's possible that it's because it thinks you don't care enough about Isabella?" The wolf suggested inside my head.
"Crows are very intelligent animals, and in mythology they are the messengers and eyes of the king of the gods."
"Oh, of course I think it's possible." I was deep in thought.
He made me feel even more guilty for saying it.
"The bird was very nice and couldn't have been healthier. It's very well-proportioned. Would you like a little yolk, little one?" Oliver looked kindly at the raven in front of him. After getting a series of "yeses," he put a few yolks in the crow's food bowl.
He turned to me and handed me an ice pack.
"But, Elijah... I think you might be overly worried."
That's a nasty way of putting it, I never thought I might ......!
"You two have always stuck together since you got back from the witch colony, and I think you might have considered this a form of separation anxiety." Oliver's expression was particularly sincere.
He's right, it seems we've never been apart that long. I haven't seen her during the day for the last few days.
"Oh, I just didn't think you'd be doing this now at this time." Oliver tied the bandage tighter.
I knew what he meant by that look. It used to only happen to people who had just established a bond with MATE. This can happen to both men and women.
But I really want to justify it to myself.
"Well, just remember to put medicine on it. It's not a big deal." Oliver patted my shoulder with sympathy all over his face.
"But you really have to get used to the fact that she's going to be busier to do that. Do you remember that? Your father and mother were like that before. But they still had a good time then, didn't they?"
I took a deep breath and looked at the photo of the two of us together on the table with chagrin. This made me feel even more chagrined. Looking at her figure, I struggled to control it and not let my emotions pass through.
She must be very busy, then it is better for me not to disturb her.
But even after giving myself a mental note, it was hard for me not to think about her when she ran out again the next morning.
"Is luna? She ran over there a long time ago." When I asked the guard at the library, the guard pointed in the direction of the forest.
I inexplicably had a bad premonition. I turned into the form of a wolf and ran quickly toward the mountain forest.
That direction was the direction of the dragon's lair during our examination earlier. I knew she wanted to save that dragon then, but I didn't think she would actually go there by herself!
"So, it's now ......" I heard Isabella's voice. In the MATE link, her mood was always calm.
There was a huge figure in front of her. It was flying in the air as if it was going to eat her.
What's that?
I rushed forward regardless.
"Roar!" That's the dragon!
It screamed at me, spewing flames. I stepped on the nearest tree to me and forcibly switched direction. The tree snapped beneath my feet and I heard the clear sound of wood snapping with.
How can it hurt Isabella!
"Wait a minute, Elijah, he's not going to attack us!" Isabella's arm suddenly appeared in my field of vision. I had to jump to the ground and shake my head in nervous embarrassment.
I then calmed down and looked carefully at the dragon.
Yes, it didn't do anything to attack again. I was the only one who was overstressed from the beginning!
Immediately afterwards, he turned into a red-haired teenager.
"Hello, alpha. i didn't mean to, i ......"
"You're the dragon?" This time it was my turn to be surprised. How could a dragon turn into a human and be such a skinny boy? He looked even a little bit slimmer than those witches.
"Yes, alpha. thank you very much for the help you provided, if it wasn't for you guys, I might have been stuck in this place for hundreds of years." He bowed solemnly at me.
But what is all this? I have absolutely no idea!
"I told him it was our mutual decision, so don't show your face." Isabella reminded me in the mate link.
"I just told him that we decided to set him free. And I've set it all up."
At this point I understood what she had been doing lately. I knew she had considered the dragon, but the matter was so difficult that I thought she would have discussed with me how it should be handled.
This is really a communication failure on our part.
"It was our mistake. You should be free." I looked at him solemnly.
"It's up to us to say sorry to you."
