Chapter 32
Isabella's POV.
"I'm afraid you'll need to start at the beginning of this one." I sat down across from the girl, leaning a little closer to her as possible.
She looked at me as if she had made a great determination.
"After you left that day, the Pack went into chaos. liam he got us all out and told us that because you ran away, we had to select new breeders."
It turns out that after I left the White Birch Pack that day, Liam gathered no less than ten women together for a meeting. The meeting was attended by girls who had just come of age.
Although on the surface they were told that it was for the selection of new breeders and was to give them a new chance, in reality they were sent in batches to the residence of those elders.
They are the so-called gifts offered to those elders.
"He told us that it was a test. At first I didn't think those elders would do anything to me, but then ......" she covered her face, the second half of her sentence drowning in her choked sobs.
I knew what she was referring to, those elders must have wrecked her badly. She was so helpless when I first met her that she had almost completely lost her mind, and it was obvious that this was the effect of such things.
What a poor girl.
I took her in my arms. There was a thud from the wall behind me, and I knew it was Elijah protesting.
"Don't worry, I know it's okay, she's not a bad person." I reassured Elijah on the other side of my partner's link.
"I know, but ...... caution is never a bad thing. After all, she used to trust Liam so much," Elijah's voice was clearly a little aggravated.
His concern is not unreasonable. I had already lost once in such a matter. The girl who I considered myself a friend had pitched me pretty badly.
So I know better that this matter should be about real evidence.
"But you should know that if there is not enough evidence, then they will not believe us either." I explained to the girl in front of me.
"You saw what happened the other day when I told about the breeders."
Almost everyone was defending the White Birch Pack that day, and everyone didn't think I was right. There is no right or wrong in their eyes, only those barbaric rules.
"I think there should be something in their dwelling that you can refer to. That place is oddly close to the wizards' territory, and you can even see the wizards practicing releasing crows during the day." She frowned hard as she thought about it.
"I don't know if they moved after I left, but at the very least they were living there the last time I saw them."
I nodded my head. I knew I couldn't give a firm commitment, so I just told her we would try our best.
But witches? I happen to know them well.
"Does she know we might not be able to do it?" Elijah sent me a message in the companion link.
"I didn't want to let her down."
I understood his concern, so I actually did not give this girl commitment.
"She understands, so the next choice is up to her. Even if we get that evidence, we'll need her to come forward and help us speak up about it. But we may need someone to go to that place once."
But those people sure know our faces.
"We can go to the wizard." Elijah and I said that name at the same time in the companion link.
Originally, those elders live very close to the wizard's residence, so it is normal for the wizard to go and see. Those sorcerers are certainly happy to go and have a good look at this trouble that is so close to them.
It simply couldn't be better.
"I'll be in touch with them." I said to Elijah. Then I turned around and went back to my own house.
In the living room was standing a huge crow. It was looking at me with its head cocked, as if it was thinking.
"How are you?" It asked me. "My little princess?"
It was part of the gifts those witches had given me. Only at first it was an egg, and it did not begin to hatch until I placed it in the daylight as instructed.
I was planning to keep it as a pet, but now it seems it can really come in handy for some other purposes.
"Hello, little bird. I need you to do me a favor." I took out a piece of paper and started writing a letter.
"You'll bring the message, won't you?"
It dropped the toy it was tearing at and glided up next to me. I turned the letter into an anklet and put it on its foot.
"It's my duty." It looked at me with an expression that even really looked like a werewolf warrior about to go on a mission.
I've seen decent werewolves like this, but this is the first time I've seen a bird like this. I held back my laughter and stroked its head, opened the window and told it to fly out.
The next step was Elijah and I's preparation.
With just over two days to go until the next test, we had to get ourselves back up to speed.
With that in mind, I opened the basket with the gifts from the witches again.
Thirty minutes later, Elijah barged into the bathroom.
"What are those?" Elijah looked at me with a very surprised expression.
I didn't pay any attention to him, I just poured the different powders together into the huge bathtub. The water in the tub bubbled as I stirred it, looking even scarier.
"These are herbs that can bring back strength quickly. But temporarily I can only put together so much, so I think you may need to come with me ......" I pointed to him.
He quickly understood what I meant and took off the t-shirt he was wearing.
In the warm light, his abs glowed with bronze, as if they were some kind of precious metal.
I couldn't resist reaching up and touching it. The warmth on it almost made me not want to move my hand away.
His breathing was equally rapid and his chest was rising and falling violently.
"But given that we have a lot of things to do next, I'm afraid we won't be able to do anything today." I raised my hand regretfully.
He had the look of a dog who didn't get a bone. I rubbed his hair proudly and then sat down on the edge of the tub again.
Then I undressed and lay comfortably in the water.
"Oh, my Isabella ......" he said, covering his face in pain.
But he also understood that I was telling the truth and that we couldn't expend any energy on the matter. So we both just leaned over the two edges of the tub as far as we could. I struggled to move my legs as far away from him as possible.
If not for this test, I think this soaking trip would have been much more enjoyable. And in the end, all of this is Liam's fault.
I looked over at Elijah, whose ears were red and he didn't even look at me.
"The water seems a little cold." After meeting my eyes, he simply dived himself into the water bubbling.
"Elijah, you look like a ...... hippo that stays in the water." My eyes widened.
I've made up my mind to liven up the current atmosphere.
"What? No!" He poked his head out. And before he could say anything, a ball of foam was thrown in his face by me.
"Isabella!" He likewise picked up a ball of foam and threw it in my direction.
Naturally, I couldn't just let him go, so I lunged towards him.
"Knock, knock, knock."
"alpha? luna? are you guys okay?" The person outside the door knocked desperately.
Elijah quickly yanked the towel down over my body.
"What's wrong? Is something happening outside?" We both asked in unison.
"Oh, no. It sounded like you two were fighting." The guards outside sounded like they were totally holding back their laughter.
"Looks like I'm interrupting some sort of fun for you guys, I'll leave now?"
What? No!
I didn't have time to argue. I heard the sound of the man walking further and further away, and I thought about holding up the foam to cover my face.
"But it's the least we can do to prove we're pretty much back on our feet." Elijah tugged a towel over and wiped his face. "Do you need me to carry you out?"
"Of course, my pleasure." I raised my hand.
But it must be said that this herb is still quite powerful.
I didn't even want to lift my arms when I just soaked in, but now I'm actually willing to fight with Elijah.
I leaned into him and felt more at ease than ever before. Even though we were about to face that harsh test, we were still together now.
"Clap, clap, clap ......" I heard the wind chimes ringing. I then realized that my children were still here too.
"Wow ......?" He looked at us and waved his arms excitedly.
"If he hadn't just touched the wind chimes with a clang, I'm afraid I would have forgotten he was here too." I looked at it.
Joanna has told us that kids this age don't behave too well. But he never behaved well in front of us.
"Probably understood what we were going to do too well to do that." Elijah looked at him the same way.
"I remember Joanna saying that he was also very rowdy during the day."
"Maybe so." I walked a little closer. He lay on his back and held the toy in his hand out to me.
"Maybe kids are a little smarter than we think." I lifted my hand and poked his soft cheek.
"We're going to fight for the Pack, but we promise you, we'll come back well."
He lifted his hand and took my fingers in his. It was as if we had come to some kind of understanding.
Two days later, Elijah and I stood in front of the field for the second test.
Liam stood in front of those elders, and he looked at us with arrogance in his eyes. The wound on my face still looked obvious because it hadn't been soaked in a medicinal bath. I knew this was disorienting.
"If you give up now, I can still consider keeping you alive." Liam looked at me and looked me up and down.
"You should know that the next test will only get harder and harder. The last one already left you injured like that below, you might not even survive."
"Thank you for your kind offer, but I'm afraid no one wants to take your chance, and besides, what chance can you give." I smiled politely at him.
