Chapter 44

Isabella's POV.
I know that the reason it wasn't Jessica was there was because she still had to stay there to hear what people thought of her. For her it was like another torture. I really don't want my friend to be hurt like that if I can help it.
"Is something wrong? You two have such stony expressions." Just then Elijah returned, pouring half a cup of coffee into his mouth.
In this dreary atmosphere he looked at me first, his expression full of worry. Faced with the worried emotions coming from my partner's link, I could only try to calm him down.
I really had no choice, but I could only tell him what Alex had told me first.
"Oh, I'm afraid things are hard for you two to handle oh." Mia laughed inside my head.
Her tone made me feel very helpless, but there was really nothing that could be done about it. I looked over at Elijah sheepishly.
"The wedding will be affected at this rate." His expression was extremely grave.
"We have to handle it properly."
"We need to find the first person who told them that. This person, wherever he or she is, is a huge pain in the ass." I sighed.
If the White Birch Pack people do get sidelined, then the vows we made with those elders at the time will all be forsaken. That's obviously not the outcome we want to see.
But that's where the question comes in. Who in our Pack would benefit from this? It would have to be someone who has an axe to grind with the White Birch Pack or is related to the elders.
There won't really be too many people like that.
"In that case, then I can start from the one who gave the poison and retrace it again. The one who gave the poison is likely to be this real murderer."
Elijah and I agree with this approach.
But now, the White Birch Pack people can only eat specific filtered foods. Because none of us know if that person will go down.
But the girls who testified with their lives, they have the right to know the truth.
I was at the first place where the girls lived.
"So you're saying that someone else actually put the blame on us that day?" The girl named Alice, who was most familiar with me, looked at me with wide eyes. Her hands trembled as she hugged the other person beside her. That girl's eyes were also full of fear.
I thought they wouldn't be in danger after the White Birch Pack was taken care of, which is why I didn't tell them. But now it seems to be a complete error of judgment on my part.
"But what does that person have against us? I don't understand." Alice looked up, and I saw the tears in her eyes.
This girl is a little younger than me, but has gone through hardships that I can't even imagine.
"I don't understand either, honey." I answered truthfully.
"But I will protect you as much as I can."
When I arrived at the training ground early the next morning, I found that the girls had also arrived. They were all dressed in regulation training clothes, but their expressions were squirming.
I knew they hadn't had any proper warrior training, and that was likely to spell trouble.
"We heard that all the girls here were coming for training, so we ......" Alice lowered her head and carefully covered her mouth.
"luna, you don't blame me, do you?"
Of course not, and how could I blame them? I led them forward and guided them to the line.
But I was worried that the warrior women would not accept them. After all, their foundation is just too poor.
Except for Jessica, who was able to compete with me back then, but then she was locked up by her own father, which rustled up all kinds of skills.
But because of that, I was relieved to get her specialized guidance instead of learning along with everyone else. She needed just a little catalyst to get back in great shape and didn't need to waste time preparing for the wedding.
"We were worried about giving you guys trouble." Alice replied honestly.
"We haven't learned any fighting skills, maybe ......"
"No, why not! We happen to be going over our previous skills today, why don't you guys come along too?" A girl rushed to the front and enthusiastically pulled Alice's arm. Alice froze, then smiled and stood in line with that girl.
Soon those girls all found their places in the group. They were arranged piecemeal so as to ensure that each one of them could learn the poses of those around them.
This arrangement couldn't be better.
"I hope they are not too sensitive. Some people will feel inferior because they don't know the skills of the people around them." Mia expressed her concern.
"There's not much we can do if that's the case, we can't do any better." I just felt a little powerless.
But my experience has taught me that I can't please all the people no matter what.
"These girls might have to be a little tougher, I was wrong." Mia marveled.
I looked up. The girls, including Alice, did not know any techniques, but they were listening carefully to the older female warrior teaching. And if there is something they don't know, they will also ask with their hearts.
There will be no situation at all that we are worried about.
I stood next to the group and waved my arms in small increments along with their movements. And just then, I saw a flash of cold light.
Someone is firing arrows at them!
The man's eyes looked very pure, but also with a little bit of fierceness. He covered his whole face with a mask, which made it completely impossible for me to see his expression.
But he was still too inexperienced, and because of this stare-down, he was completely off his mark.
"No, Isabella, no!" Mia shouted inside my head. Of course I knew what she was going to say, but I couldn't give up on them!
I flew up and pushed the arrow out.
With the screams of those girls I planted myself on the ground. The pain in my limbs was far less than the worry I felt for them. The girls closest to me were covering their heads out of control, and instead Alice, who was relatively far away, quickly rushed to my side.
It's strange that I didn't know her name at the time of the White Birch Pack. Otherwise I would have been able to become friends with her. I thought with regret.
"luna, are you okay?" Alice protects my side worriedly. "Quick, let's go get Oliver ......!"
They call me luna, so at least that's a good sign. From this level I am still very pleased.
But I can't let them worry.
"It's because of the little kids over there. There are always some kids practicing with bows around here, it's okay. It's not a matter of importance." I lifted my uninjured hand and poked Alice's shoulder.
"I can go get my own bandage, you guys just keep training."
Alice still looked at me worriedly, and she stubbornly stayed by my side, unwilling to leave. But the other female warriors still assisted me to leave the training ground.
They all knew that it must have been done by someone who held great animosity towards these little girls.
"luna, this ......"
"Keep an eye out, the guy with the bow may still be coming." I interrupted her. Of course I knew it could be poisonous, or I wouldn't have wrapped a strip of cloth around my arm in the first place.
"His arrows, at the very least, I have one." I raised my hand.
Weak children who can't turn into wolves yet are the ones who need bows, so this is a clear sign.
I think we're about to find him. An impulsive, kid with a huge grudge against the White Birch Pack.
"I hear someone has done something very risky?" I looked up, along with the female warriors around me, towards a short distance away. elijah was standing there breathing heavily, and he looked visibly angry.
Damn! I covered my face in pain.
Originally, I was not going to give him any trouble, but this seems to be a completely different story.
Elijah came up to me and picked me up straight away. Horrified, I wrapped my okay arm around his neck. He just held me in his arms and ran steadily toward our place.
I didn't dare to speak at all on this journey, I was afraid he would get even more angry.
"What do you do if it's got poison on it?" Elijah sighed.
"But I can't give up on them, they're really important right now." I tried to justify myself.
"You don't know they should ...... well."
Before I could finish, he lowered his head and kissed me. Of course his movements were aggressive, and I almost forgot what I was going to say while gritting my teeth.
"No, you should care more about yourself. Everyone here is going to be heartbroken." His voice trembled as he placed me on the stretcher Oliver had wheeled in.
"Do you remember what you said?" Mia's voice was similarly no where near as calm.
"During the test, you said that you wanted to live with Elijah and to run to death together. I think that was his promise to you just now, too. If it's poisonous, then he won't survive either."
I thought about that scene and froze and covered my mouth.
Yeah, that's my mate. there's absolutely no need for me to keep such things from him. If he loses me, how can he live alone.
So I backhanded Elijah and grabbed his arm.
"What's wrong?" He asked me, a little angry.
"I was trying to tell you this whole thing properly." I closed my eyes.
"As for whether you want to listen or not, that's your business."
I described all the information I knew to Elijah as fast as I could. And he was still in deep thought when Oliver declared the arrow I was holding non-toxic.
"What are you thinking about?" I looked at him curiously.
"I was wondering what I should do with this bastard if I caught him. I'll make sure he squats in the darkest corner ......" He met my expression and instantly his tone softened again.
"Well, I know you can't bear to handle a little kid like that. That's why I will find a special tutor to teach him. Now I think we can go to the tutor who specializes in teaching small children for answers. All the little children who are still at the age of using a bow are learning there."
Until they get close to eighteen and start learning how to become a wolf and how to adapt to their identity as a werewolf. So the scope of this really can't be any smaller.
