Chapter 40

Elijah's POV.
Due to Dragon Boy's own insistence, we just arranged for him to stay in the adjoining hut. He refused to have too much contact with werewolves. This I can understand very well. So Isabella and I took care of most of the furnishings for him.
I didn't get out of that cabin until he was settled. The original house was occupied, so this didn't really take too much time.
"Elijah?" i turned my head and Isabella was handing me a towel.
"He seems to be doing okay." I explained, and tried to change the subject.
"Are you okay?"
"Sure, it's just that you look really overwrought." She pointed to the bag on my head.
Yeah, that long must have been enough time for Oliver to tell her what happened. I subconsciously covered it.
"I just wanted to know what you were doing and wanted to make sure I could help." I finally had to answer her.
This reason, even I myself feel too perfunctory.
"Just tell me straight, Elijah," Isabella said, suddenly smiling. She dragged me back to our place and pushed a dozen books in front of me. The crow cawed desperately behind our backs, but we both selectively ignored it.
"These are the books that have to do with dragons. I wanted to be able to release the dragon from our elders' quiz. Although one of the elders agreed with me at the time, I later found out that he couldn't actually give me a positive commitment."
I remembered. That dragon's expression looked perpetually sad, but it also had to attack us according to the setting of that magic formation.
But at the very least, until today I thought the dragon thing was not that serious.
"I'm sorry." She put her hand on my shoulder.
"But the negative impact it has had on this matter really has nothing to do with you. I don't want my mistakes to affect you."
"How many times do you want me to tell you before you understand that we are MATE and we should ......"
She hugged me.
As far as I can remember, she never shows weakness like this.
"So how are you helping him plan his future?" I felt I should make concessions too.
"I wrote him a letter of introduction, but I haven't gotten a reply yet. I think the wizards would be happy to accept him. Because he can do magic and is strong." She waved her hands in a gesture. Her hair fell from her ears and looked even cuter as it floated up and down with her movements.
I swallowed hard.
"I think I'm just as strong." I lifted my arms and hugged her.
Isabella's POV.
"But actually, I wouldn't be mad if you told me." Elijah's face was buried in my shoulder and his voice sounded very aggravated.
"I'm sorry."
I looked at him with apologies.
I know that as MATE, we should face these things together. He has the right to know. It would also be selfish of me to choose not to inform just because I'm worried about him getting hurt.
"Ha, ha, ha ......"
I suddenly heard the sound of laughter that only children have. We both turned our heads awkwardly, and only then did we see the small child still lying in the cradle.
Gosh, how could I forget there was a child here!
"This is a rare bonding time, and I think he would have loved to join us." I scooped him up.
Werewolf children grow at a rapid rate, so he can almost sit properly now. He just looked at us like that, and then held one of our fingers separately.
"Papa, mama," he said.
"That's amazing." I looked at him with wide eyes. And just then, the crow stopped making noise.
Twenty minutes later, I finally finished telling Elijah what I've been doing lately. He expressed understanding, and there was heartache in all his eyes.
"This kind of thing is just too dangerous, and I wish I could go with you." He wrapped his arm around me and held my hand. I felt so relieved in his arms, as if nothing would ever hurt me again.
And I was equally careful to reassure him.
"But according to you, how did that dragon get linked to us? That's too unbelievable for me." He fiddled with my fingers.
It does look like he's fully recovered. I was relieved.
"Oh, that's kind of an old spell from the wizards. I really don't know how wizards and werewolves were so close back then." I shook my head.
"I have many ideas, but it is still unknown which one to choose to add to the final test. Anyway, there shouldn't be anything more to be held here because of our selfishness."
Using all of the illusion may be a safer and more appropriate method.
"Knock, knock."
Oliver walked in. He even had that little look of horror on his face. This state I've never seen on him before."
"What's wrong, Oliver?" I had a very bad feeling.
"It's about Liam. Those elders swore on their lives to keep him and his Pack safe." Liam looked at me as if he had swallowed something back down.
"But whatever they say, you shouldn't believe it. It wasn't even your fault."
Isabella's POV.
An oath established by elders with their lives on the line is not like any other, it is a very high priority decision. Once they make such an oath, it means we need to produce even more evidence than we have now.
That takes quite a bit of time.
I didn't realize that Liam's control over them all had reached such a point. This means that the leverage they have by Liam is definitely enough to get them dumped by Pack.
This will require an emergency meeting to deal with.
"Do you guys have any good ideas?" I carefully pushed the dozen pieces of information in front of me forward. There really wasn't anything I could do.
"I think there might be a possibility of that." Oliver looked up solemnly.
"Remember those girls? They were on their way back to the Green Creek Pack. We need them as human witnesses."
"What? No! Their bodies and minds were severely damaged, and I don't want them to remember those things." I could hardly believe my ears.
How can something like this be said by Oliver? He's seen all those things I've experienced at White Birch Pack.
"Only then can we protect them better, otherwise they will only face an even more tragic situation than they are now." Oliver looked at me and sighed softly. I could see the pain on his face as well.
"luna, it's the only way to go."
I felt my hand being held, and the warmth of the other person's palm made me feel at ease. I lifted my head and locked eyes with Elijah.
That calmed me down a little.
Yes, there's no better way to do it. Especially when Liam and the others have already used this approach.
"Well, let's go over there." I stood up and took the lead toward the door.
The rest of the nine elders and Liam and the others were already there waiting. I knew what they were going to say, nothing more than the White Birch Pack stuff.
Liam he doesn't stand much of a chance anymore, but I'm sure he'll want to drag me down with him.
"As a member of the White Birch Pack, whether you are looking for a MATE or doing anything you have to put our Pack's rules first. Since you broke them, I have the right to dispose of you before that happens.Isabella, do you have a problem with that?"
"I ask that these be put to a final verdict. Because given who Liam is now, he has very little credibility." I raised my hand.
I have studied carefully about this point. When it comes to times like this, the only way is to stall for time. And that's perfectly reasonable.
"Absolutely. There is enough evidence that has now been presented to cast doubt on Liam's credibility." The elders said. "But we will also be limiting your scope of action these days."
"Of course." I nodded while watching the hunky warriors drag Liam away. his gaze looked particularly fierce, as if he wanted to kill everyone in the room.
I know I can't argue with what he said unless we can wait for those girls.
There were enough of them. If these people testify, then it is enough for the White Birch Pack rule to be negated by the elders.
But since I got the reply letter a few days ago, those shamans haven't contacted me anymore. I don't know if they will really come.
And if they don't come, what should I do?
"You should trust them." Mia said.
"But as luna, you also have to be better prepared."
"Yes, I understand. That's why I will arrange enough warriors to protect them." I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
There's just no way I can keep myself completely calm.
"But I'm still worried. Developments have now become dangerous."
I've seen Liam's madness before.
I went to Liam's quarters. Being an alpha with restricted movement, the cell he was actually living in wasn't in bad condition. At the first sight of me he jumped at me, but unfortunately the bars between us prevented him.
"I know, you guys brought them here. But what does that change? You can't get rid of the charges." He laughed very heartily.
Of course, I thought for sure someone would tell him these things. That's what makes me hide what I've done.
"And ah, my dear luna. did you think I would let them arrive here alive?" Liam grinned madly at me. Immediately afterwards he turned into a wolf, and pieces of his broken clothes flew in the air.
I forced myself to stay calm, but my eyes widened in horror. Those elders must have been willing to do whatever it took to get those girls killed on the road. I had to do something!
"No, they're here." Mia warned inside my head.
"I think you can feel it, Maria's back."
Yes, as luna I would be inducted again to members back on the territory. But I didn't learn how to apply it until then. Within my link, I clearly perceived the return of Maria.
I turned into a wolf and ran out as fast as I could achieve in my life.
Soon I reached the edge of the territory and I saw Maria long standing not far away, she was pinned down by a group of guards and could barely move.
