Chapter 21
Elijah's POV.
"Just when this one is gone, I'm going to teach her a lesson ...... who told her to come and rob my grandfather!"
"You keep your voice down, this one next to you is a werewolf hey!"
I stopped and turned around. It was right in line with the kid who was holding a tube of mustard. I smiled at him as kindly as I could, but he took two steps back from me.
"I'll deliver it for you, really." I replied with unmistakable sincerity. "That is, after all, considered my friend, and it is better for me to give it to her myself."
The kids ran frantically towards the distance as if they had seen a ghost. Before long, they were screaming and lying on the ground.
I took a closer look. There were actually a lot of banana peels in that place!
A couple of familiar kids waved triumphantly at me, and then they wiped the oil off Isabella's front door again. I nodded at them and dumped the contents of the cup in my hand into the flower bed again.
I thought about it and turned around and went and made her tea again.
That cup, I don't even think she needs to see it again.
Isabella's POV.
I knew that the kids who hated me were at it again.
I couldn't get everyone to like me, and I knew it. That's why I've never been very nice to these kids.
As for those people behind them, I haven't figured out what I should do. But since I want to live on here, I have to figure out what to do.
But before I could do anything, there was a scream from them outside the door. I looked out the window and saw only a group of mischievous children and the back of the one I was still sort of familiar with.
From this angle, he looks very similar to the male werewolf in my dream.
I'm even going to start wondering if he is the father of my child.
"That's what you think, isn't it?" I looked helplessly at my baby. He was in his crib, tugging desperately at his pacifier.
But whoever it was, I had help this time. This does feel pretty good.
"Knock, knock."
I heard a knock on the door and quickly pulled it open. elijah was standing in my doorway, a cup of black tea in his hand.
Obviously not the same cup as earlier.
"I made you tea." He explained.
"Someone did just come to bring you a drink, but a kid squeezed mustard into your drink."
"I know, thank you." I nodded at him and turned sideways to invite him in.
"Just now I was going to go to call you. It's a witch's day, and they're all dinner you can't eat. Eat something first."
I showed him the one-way mirror in my house, signaling that he didn't have to worry. I subconsciously tugged the vegetable salad on the table toward myself, and I saw his expression was noticeably more relaxed.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." I put the buttered bread in front of him and mocked myself.
"It's really strange. I don't know why, but it always seems like you wouldn't like vegetables ......"
"Miss Witch, you're really good. I do hate eating vegetables. I even ran away crying when they wanted me to eat them when I was little ......" His expression looked very torn.
I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I thought about him being cornered by a bowl of vegetable salad when I was young.
Elijah's POV.
Isabella of the witch tribe always has a little haggard look on her face, but it's obviously not as bad when she smiles.
Looking at this girl who was so happy to help herself sincerely made me feel much better too.
But I was still thinking about what those kids said. Did she come here and take someone's inheritance by force? But obviously, she is not going to give me an answer, and the matter is not my concern. I just need to stay here for a fixed amount of time.
After leaving her place, I set off on my way back to my place. A child running past in a hurry caught my attention, he was one of the children who stepped on a banana peel.
"Aren't all her partners gone? Why do we have to be so careful?" He clearly looked unconvinced.
"She died in the forest, and no one will know."
Who wants her to die in the forest? I clenched my fists, almost wanting to rush in and have a theory with them.
But then I remembered that this was the land of the witches. Too many things required me to think carefully, so I had to make my own preparations first.
"You always have to be careful not to give her partner the benefit of the doubt. That kind of anger is beyond our ability to bear." The other was clearly the voice of an old man.
"I just want things, you don't want to overdo it."
What they said next, I couldn't hear. But there was enough information in this passage for me to think about it for a long time.
She does have a partner, but that person is out of the house. So does this mean she will be ......
I shudder to think of her being married to some wizard. What should I do if she really is my Isabella?
Mason was talking useless sense in my head, and I couldn't listen to any of it. I lay in bed quietly thinking about the response, and it wasn't long before I simply fell asleep.
In the dream I was sitting on the training ground with Isabella, watching the fireworks in the sky.
"That's nice." I heard her say.
"I've never seen fireworks before."
White Birch Pack does not have these.
I was about to say something else when I was suddenly awakened by a knock on the door.
"Hi, at night they will set off fireworks. Do you want to come along and watch?" Isabella was standing outside the door. She was wearing a skirt for the rare occasion, which made her look better.
I suddenly remembered the dream I had just had. If she really was my Isabella, then the information she knew could indeed be subconsciously passed on to me.
But then I thought about those words they said earlier.
"I think I'll skip it, after all ......"
"There's nothing wrong with my partner going back, too." She gestured into the distance. I could see a figure, whose gender was not visible, was gesturing down to me.
Oh my God! The Moon Goddess!
I don't want to go even more.
"But it doesn't help that you're lying here. It gets very noisy here at night, which is why this side of the house is largely uninhabited ......," the kid behind her spat. "So you might as well come with us, for the sake of your eardrums?"
I just felt helpless, but I was forced to follow.
There were dark clouds in the sky and the next day was sure to be a sunless day. I watched helplessly as the witches danced around the fire with their masks on, and saw Isabella continue to talk to the figure.
I feel like I'm having an even harder time.
"That's pathetic, Elijah," Mason taunted in my head. "If I were you, I'd be asking what the hell is going on instead of just being angry here."
I didn't bother to pay attention to him and ate the fruit by myself.
"If I were you, I would have confessed my love to her." A child appeared beside me. He was nibbling on fruit just like I did.
"Doesn't she have a partner and a child ......" I felt confused.
"What? No! The wizard's companion is perhaps a little different from what you pack, that one is my aunt, she taught me to learn." Isabella laughed out loud and handed me another glass of wine.
It was then that I noticed Isabella had come up to me. I had no choice but to take the glass of wine as I had no way of excusing myself.
I just felt my face flush to death.
"She can disguise herself very well, does she scare you? But, actually, I can too."
I watched her put on her cloak, and then her form was slowly blurred. Just like the previous "partner".
I really thought it was a male witch!
"You'd better drink it quickly and maybe you'll be able to sleep better." She reassured me.
"I need to leave for a trip tomorrow on business, and these children will keep you company for the next few days."
My brain had been paralyzed by alcohol and I didn't react quickly enough to what she was saying, I just responded.
I woke up early the next morning. I went to her house as usual, but there was no one there. I knocked a few more times, and only then did a note fall from the wall.
"By the time you read this note I should be on my way. It's my turn to go on patrol today, and I don't know how long I'll be gone. You can just recuperate in peace. But if you want to find me, you can come to the square by 9:30 and we'll meet there."
I suddenly thought of what those people said.
They won't want Isabella back!
I squeezed the note and sprinted toward the floor as fast as I could reach.
Isabella's POV.
"Are you going on patrol here?"
I was sorting out the equipment I had on when I saw Elijah rushing over to me.
I knew what he was probably worried about, but it was something I couldn't shrug off. So I could only nod at him.
"It does, and there's no problem if you want to come."
After all, it does look like he's in the same position as me now. But to my surprise, he shook his head.
"It's just that I wish I could take your place ......"
This statement was very surprising to me. I didn't expect that a man like him would come to my side.
"It is the responsibility of every person who lives in this community, and I think your friend should have told you that before you came. There is no way for me to excuse myself."
If I had to choose, I would prefer that he not come with me and just stay here quietly. But apparently the kids who are close to him don't think so, and they've even helped him get his bag ready.
I had no choice but to carry him on. Along the way, I noticed that he was carefully standing on the side closer to the bushes, as if he was protecting me.
For that I'm grateful, but I also feel guilty.
Because the expressions of the people who never seemed to like me were very abnormal. They probably want to do something to me directly here.
"Witches don't keep their breeding animals too close together." I explained patiently.
"A lot of livestock have been dying inexplicably lately, and we're going to find out what's going on today. You can not come with us if you are afraid."
I tried, one last time, to get him to go back. But I saw the look in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I'm used to ...... all the little kids I usually take with me. I forgot that you're not supposed to be afraid."
