Chapter 107
Samira
While Tyson held his meeting with the men, I purposefully pulled all the Lunas into a meeting as well. We sat in the Queen’s Quarters around a large round table I had put in here. They looked stoic and supportive of my decision for this meeting, and everything was set up as if we were in the grand council room. I even had their thrones put in here, so we could all sit at this large round table, not on the floor on pillows.
I also had our bells brought in here as well, as well as tea brought. I had some warm cider, though; I wasn’t sure if caffeine was good for our child. I’m almost a ton, but I still don’t want my foal affected if it’s possible. I hadn’t spoken with the fae doctor yet. That’ll be in the morning.
While Clemintine put down each cup, I prepared myself mentally.
I made sure I was professional, stoic, and I spoke like a Queen. I’m not a little girl anymore sitting on my mama’s lap… and they had their heads bowed, lord Bryson included.
After all, it’s Isabelle who’s the Third Seat, yet he has no problem sitting here with us, drinking tea. I waved my hand for them to rise, and rang the bell.
“Now that Tyson deals with the discoveries the Seventh Seat made, I must address the aftermath of two things: The rehabilitation of wolves impacted by goblin drug cartels, and anything we can do to aid the fairies. Contradiction’s body may have been taken away from this world, but his impact caused some permanent destruction in the desert.”
Indeed, he did. Water is meant to be wet, and fire hot. Because of his powers and how he’d died, some patches still held some contamination. Animals who drank the dry waters die of kidney failure…. People who light cold fires freeze to death.
“I can help.” Offered Heidi. “I think I’m the only one with magic here.”
“But your energies come from the Horned One.” Said Aemi, her mother-in-law. “Do you have spells in mind, dear?”
“I do.” Heidi smiled. “I may gather energy from Below, but it’s still a part of nature. Fire is meant to be hot. I could help with that.” She admitted.
“I’ll contact my Grandfather Uriel. Balance must be remade and maintained.” I said in agreement with her. “Also, since Diana is also with child right now, she’s not directly purifying the land. The balance she’d give with earth magic is missing, and grandfather might bless the land too heavily, making it impossible for other fae to live out there.”
They nodded in agreement, and now Luna Red, the 8th Luna, held a question.
“My lady, in regard to the addiction…. Our people are scattered across the country. One facility won’t be enough, but making multiple would also be impractical… Since so few are affected. What do you suppose?”
“Eighth Seat, your question is valid,” I said with a nod. “I suggest have Rouges who struggle could receive rehabilitation in their local pack.”
There was instant dissatisfaction.
“My lady, they only wish to make issue once they’re let in.” Said Luna Wisp, the Fourth Luna.
“Then they can be placed in a cell, and receive their medication that way,” I said, and there were scowls, but they agreed with that a little better.
Bryson rang his bell.
“But it has to be humane.” He said, comically too large to actually ‘fit’ at the table. “It serves them no purpose, and no one will go to get the help in the first place if they feel trapped.”
“But most packs have drunk tanks and holding cells that aren’t punishment, Third Lune.” Said Aemi. “It should be implied that we don’t treat them as criminals for trying to get help.”
“I also agree with that.” I said with a nod. I silently requested my laptop with a wave of my hand. “To make sure this is clear, I’ll write that up into the proposal, and we’ll begin rehabilitation on Monday. I’ll use my personal funds to pay for any medication.”
I have a dowry and a few gifts, but the estimated bill for this was going to be 45 million. But if I become broke, so be it. Money isn’t worth the lives of millions. An estimated 19 million people have been impacted by this. The Goblin King also wishes to apologize for his people’s actions, so I sent an email his way. If he puts even 25% of the estimate down, I’ll be financially fine.
“Packs from all over the world will need this service, especially those in Europe.” Mumbled Lina Hezmond, the Ninth Seat’s mate. “Our packs tend to be so large that we have no choice… We *must* be picky…. In places like Londyn , Paris, or Stochome, only the best candidates can enter the territory for citizenship.”
I had a bit of a think about it…. How do we mitigate overpopulation, and the subsequent drug usage that comes from the desperation?
“Wolves *need* pack stability,” I said, putting my thumb and index finger to my chin. “Is it possible for say, your son, Beta Mikyu, your heir, to make a second pack?” I asked.
“I’m not sure….” Luna Hezmon looked to be thinking. “Since we need these packs to be so large for protection… another mega-pack run by our son could be alright. But that would need to be built, and land is scarce with so many humans there too. The humans in our territory, a significant percentage, not only have Second Sight, but they also tell and believe the old stories regarding wolves.”
“Likely because the Rogues were hunting the local population.” Said Bryson.
“That’s correct, Honored Third.” She admitted.
In many parts of the continent, those who are weak don’t *get* a chance to join. Omegas born into a pack are the only weak wolves safe. It makes roves of Rogues with no chance of joining a pack… out on the streets.
Some join or make their own gangs of unorganized thief guilds…. Many turn to unicorn or fairy dust…. Or dried dragon blood to take the edge off.
“We may have to deal with the head of the issue as well.” Said Bryson. “Here in the states, there’s land. Even I, in Missura have the ability to go outside my door, and just shift when I feel like it.”
“The same is true for us in Pinnsylvania.” Said Aemi. “We’re about 120 miles from the closest major human city, and 70 from the closest human village… If I wish to shift and do as I please, I have more than enough space. We also have StoneMoon right next to us.”
“And in our census, 52% of StoneMoon is Kappa strength or lower.” Added Heidi. “If we gained three or four hundred more, it would make us no difference.”
“And I live in New Apple, where my human neighbors are in a complex across the street.” Said Luna Autumn, the Fifth Luna.
“We could offer an immigration incentive.” I said firmly. “Those who wish to gain help and a pack can select a new pack here, but they will be reviewed. I don’t want to send problems over here. We’ll have video call meetings, review records, and I’m sure by now you all have records of the local Rogues who just need a place to go.”
“I’ll fund that since you’re paying for the drug program.” Said Bryson. He linked his mate. “Izzy’s in full agreement.”
“Then it’s settled. Any who wish to gain a pack can be shipped here, but they will have a bit of a holding period should they test positive for addiction. They will be given every chance to achieve mental and physical stability.”
I didn’t expect to also deal with overcrowding…. But I’m glad this was brought to my attention.
“You have my thanks my Queen.” Said Luna Hezmon. “For many years, there were squabbles over who would take these wolves in, or how would we deal with those who don’t make trouble, yet suffer for their lack of strength.”
“We should also look into any packs in Asia as well.” I added, and there were nods. “We don’t have any council stationed there, but we have room for another Luna or two.”
They were silent, not expecting me to think of those who aren’t represented.
That’s another thing I mean to change.
There are no representatives who currently live in Africa either, but that’s because Ronitus moved here following the King after the War. Jang is the same, since they spared those lands from holding Old Ones, but this is still an issue. No reports have been sent our way, but that does not mean that there are no issues.
This gap has not been addressed for hundreds of years, since from time to time, council travel out that way, but in my opinion, this is no longer enough… There is no telling what issues they have with drugs, overcrowding, and some of those countries have authoritarian human rule…
And I’ll have to speak with those leaders, who won’t like that I’m changing things… I’ll make some more enemies come their standard business time….
