Chapter 62

“It doesn’t count because of Jack the fucking Slasher.” I grumbled, putting clawed hands over my face. I let my elbows rest on my desk. “We all saw! Even the best lawyer won’t be able to use the evidence, since 1, it was mailed like *That* and 2, it shows Kaizen’s thrall doing it… so it may as well have been *his* claws.”
Jack just *had* to chop them up… He couldn’t *just* kill them OFF camera AFTER a clean confession!
Gods fucking Damnit.
“I still think it’s selfish.” Grumbled father.
“How? All I sacrifice is for our people.” I said feeling the urge come back… It was like sating it made it *worse* now, because at first it was just a craving…. Now that my body had a taste, it wanted the real thing. No animals either, but mortals.
Father’s sharp glare told me he knew. I felt like a ghoul…
“You sacrifice your body on your own. Mortals don’t care what you eat; you’re a monster to them. You sacrifice your wellbeing, you sacrifice *your* peace for wolves who for the most part, are starting to move on.” Father hissed this as his crown appeared. My small candle’s flicker made me tired…
“You look like you need to take a nap.” Said mom. She got up and hugged me. “Bryson you seem to know why he feels….. sickly.”
“He makes holy energy with his sense of justice…. You’re the only one who does this. No one is ashamed of you either.” Father’s words were targeted… He heard me, and I doubled down.
“Then I am ashamed of myself.” I said standing.
“There is no shame in what we are.” Said father. “If you need to eat, you should *eat what nourishes you*.”
“What if it’s souls?” I said defensively.
“Then there are plenty in prisons all over the country that would have their fate a little early, and their victims would *thank* you for it. You don’t *have* to suffer or endure anything. Everyone except *you* seem to realize that.” Father said this firmly, snorting steam…
I mean he was right, but I didn’t want to hear it.
“I do this for everyone else’s sake.” I still doubled down. “If I don’t, I may kill my mate. I am not okay with that. I can’t activate my powers, because they don’t *want* to turn off.”
“Because you’re malnourished.” Said father. “I’ve had the displeasure of knowing what that feels like. It won’t stop until you handle it. You may find yourself feeding off your mate…. And as a unicorn you might not stop.”
“I wouldn’t do that.” I said shocked and angered by that. You *can’t* hurt your mate.
“It won’t be on purpose. Imagine this: You’ve starved yourself like you fucking wanted. You’re already weakened.” Dad motioned me before facepalming. “A nick or papercut could trigger you. A servant could piss you off. You’ve seen hungry vampires before… You know I’m not lying. You’ll crave life force until you get it. Maybe you might snatch an Omega by the throat and just start sucking their soul out through their jugular… Maybe you might slit the throat of your sister… your mother… any mortal.”
“I won’t.” I said firmly. I wasn’t even lying to myself. My mouth watered at the thought of a servant… shit.
I didn’t mind flesh… But this was a different thing altogether….
“Then eventually you’ll become decrepit and whither. The Council you protect will have a knife in your back the moment they think you’re weak enough.” Father vanished with mom….
I put my hands on my face and growled a frustrated scream.
“Shit.” I mumbled, feeling my claws extend. Why am I still so hungry?!
Why’d I ask myself that stupid question? I knew why… I didn’t want to admit it….
I don’t know how long I sat like that, but the room’s air changed… dramatically.
“I’ve seen enough.” Said Asanguis as his true visage. He is about 10 feet tall that way, sporting sapphire, almost black robes. His scythe was in one hand, and a living human was in the other.
They were bound and gagged with magical tattered rags. The human couldn’t scream, being roughly held by the throat. He thrashed and kicked, but there was no way he’d escape.
“I’m fine uncle…. Please, continue your work.” I bowed my head to him, and he growled at me.
“I will continue when you get your head out your ass.” He hissed like a snake. “Take it.”
“I can’t. Uncle-” He cut me off.
“I assume you’re not like a vampire, and more like a wraith. That means you’re really after the energy. Here. Try taking a few years off him.” Asanguis tossed the bound man on the table. “Your feeding will only send him to hell, like when I reap sinners.” He rolled his eyes.
“Bu-”
“Stop being a bitch and eat your damn food!” he shouted.
