I looked at my phone while my mate slept. She dreamed of me…. And I did not like what she saw. I’d never killed needlessly like that, but she’d never seen carnage so great.
It could also be a premonition… I hoped it wasn’t, but if it was, I’ll deal with it when the time comes…
I didn’t want to do this…
I didn’t want to set in motion the beheading of my brother… But he will not get away with killing 5 units of wolves… .
He answered the 4th ring.
[Come home.] I snarled in wolf speech. I conveyed how serious this was with our native tongue, but he is love blind… He only doubled down before I could even try to negotiate…
“I will not.” He said firmly in English, to ‘prove’ that he did have control.
[You are my brother, but the crimes you committed must be brought to justice.] I growled. [Their mates still weep… their pups are without fathers… You Will have a fair trial. I swear that.]
…. I hadn’t had the heart yet to see those faces in person….but I will soon…
I really meant what I said however. If he is to die, it will be because of his crimes, not because of his position, nor bloodline. I even sent for the BEST lawyers to try and make a case for him…
I summoned the Vampire King’s personal team for this…. If they cannot save him, he was never meant to be saved.
“You will behead me. Even now, you cannot speak mortal tongue.” He said after taking a breath. His stillness did calm me. I tried a different approach.
I let out a long sigh. A little black smoke exited the corners of my mouth. “I’m not out to kill you, but death is the penalty for murdering pack…. And Running makes you look More guilty. I am King; I cannot, and *Will not* play favorites. If I do, *Everything* our ancestors fought for would be for Nothing.”
I would bring shame to the crown if I pardoned him…. I think if I did, I’d give this crown to someone else. There’s no point to having it, if I cannot keep my vows to my people…
“I Know…. I won’t lie and say that you’re wrong… Even before you called, I *Still* feel guilty… but brother… I don’t know what to do… All my life I have lived in your shadow… Grace is gone, so am I.” He said this as if he were mourning a death, rather than speaking with me….
“You aren’t gone…But this must be righted. You and that mortal need to come to the Council.” I don’t know why I accidently called that human his mate….
She’s likely tricking him…
“You will Leave my mate Out of this.” He hissed.
“We both know that neither grandparent would give us a Mortal.” I scoffed. That was the truth… humans belong to the Light Court… the enemy of those who rule the Night Court…
There’s no way that would have been approved… the Moon Goddess would have to speak with the Sun King, her father…. The very man who imprisoned grandmother so long, that she was returned wearing mortal clothes to hide how thin he’d made her…
“.... do not call again. We have nothing more to say.” Kaizen said hanging up.
I texted him…
*Brother, I mean my words. I have lawyers readying for a real trial… I paid for those vampires in gold. I will also pardon the mortal should she be innocent, though she will have to belong to you since she won’t be able to be released. You’ve been with her too long. Brother… Just listen.*
He’d blocked me… I pursed my lips, watching my mate toss in her sleep, and I put my thumb on her mark. I tried sending soothing love, and her hum told me that it was hopefully working….
Fuck I’m so tired…. I have to handle my brother, the goblins, and the new black market stemmed from the illegal trading of supernatural parts… the Elf Court trying to sabotage what I have with Samira.
She hadn’t seen the text yet, I half did since her phone lit up. I think it was one last apempt to get her to come home. I would release her if it is her choice.
I may be a beast, but I am not without reason.
I have to visit the pack too… I can’t keep put it off…. I will feel like less of an Alpha; that when I arrive, the culprit will not be in custody… My words will likely be hollow sounding to them, or they’ll think I’m hiding him.
