Chapter 63

A/N: Hi! This chapter has the phone call from Tyson’s pov. I feel like it should be in both books.
Tyson
Another 8 days passed, and Asanguis was gone, but said he’d be back soon.
It was 7am currently, but he was replaced with my Council, who filled my office. They even brought stools as makeshift chairs from their rooms to sit in here.
I finally had a lead…. I held the receiver to my office landline in my hand…
My mind was clear….
Fuck I was nervous… This was it.
The moment Kaizen answers… The moment he does I will be a King engaging a fugitive, not a brother asking, no begging his triplet to come home…. To turn himself in, so when I behead him with my sword, it’s clean…. There was a silent pain to that realization that I could not show in this room…..
I held no comfort either, as my mate was sleeping in… I did that with magic, but I wouldn’t tell her. She will only try to convince me to pardon him. And honestly, I am so close to doing it, that I’d do it if she asked.
My stomach growled for souls…. It’d been over a week… so that was fair.
… It does not matter how I feel about this, people are going to have to die for me to live.
Kaizen also has to die for justice.
But I was making my peace with it.
I don’t want to, but I’d rather be in control… Not get so hungered that I go insane…. I could tell that father was right after all… but at least with my mind clear, I could do what needed to be done next…
The phone rang a few times, but it was a female voice who answered.
“Hello?” The mortal was at least polite about it.
“You must be the woman he marked.” I said more as a statement than a question. I could damn near see her confusion. Me and my brother are identical, so she probably can’t hear the difference… There isn’t one, but I like to think I sound more formal.
“I am.” She said with the nerve to sound offended. She’s just tricking him to live longer. If that isn’t his mate when I kill him, of all the souls I may take, I’ll enjoy taking hers the most.
All this is her fault.
Damn She Human Hunter.
I had to take a breath to compose myself… My gums itched… “Tell Kaizen to Come Home.”
“He won’t do that. He’s wanted by his own brother…” She said sheepishly.
“His brother wants him because he killed 25 people.” I snarled. I know she wasn’t stupid. She had to know that by now.
“Don’t *grr* at me.” She snapped at me like a teacher. She sounded like a kindergarten teacher telling me it isn’t block time… and that pissed me off.
“Your majesty, maybe have the mortal explain what happened.” Said Ronitus. He was being served coffee by Clementine’s mate, Markus, the Unyielding. Now that there were mates working as servants, he transferred from Royal Guard duties to help her. I allowed any who wished that to be the case.
After all…. There’s literally no point to the royal guard if the King can’t die… and I have telekinesis… and hellfire… yeah….
“Would that be acceptable to you?” I asked the little human. If it somehow turns out that I’m wrong, I’ll apologize.
“It would.” She said surprisingly professional…. “I guess I should skip to the part you all want to hear?”
“No, the beginning.” I said firmly. I heard my brother hum in his sleep….. all that running must have him tired.
“My friends were going to get married, and took me on a camping trip with them to celebrate…. They got really drunk and I was the designated driver… It all happened so fast… There weren’t any signs on the road or anything.” She said the last part as if she were trying not to cry….
I could hear no deception… but I wouldn’t allow myself to be confused. Humans trick…. They are taught to hate us…. When Kaizen dies, if she escapes, she’s going to run right back to her Hunter Den…
I know she’s Hunter’s blood….
*And that was a Lie*.
“You Lie Mortal.” I snarled as I spoke, calling her out. “I installed the gate myself. What’s more, is that I saw it up *myself* too when I visited the aftermath….”
“It Wasn’t there.” She yelled, holding a disrespectful tone. “I have no reason to lie about *Anything*. What’s more is that if you’re *supposed* to be a King, you should *Listen*.” She snapped at me like we were equals.
The room was red with my pupils’ light, and my Councilmen held their heads bowed.
How *dare* she pull such a tone, and dare chastise me. I’m old enough to be her *great* grandfather, yet she speaks to me as if she is Kaizen’s mate, not a mind controlling flesh-light.
“As I said, there wasn’t a gate or anything, and if there was, it was obviously hidden…. We didn’t know werewolves and fae existed… We were surrounded, and my friends were killed in an instant… Kaizen did what he did, and *How* he did it because he lost his mind seeing me in danger…He has control now…. I know he killed a lot of people, but I know he wouldn’t have if they didn’t do what they did first.” She said this with composure… She thought about her words, not just…Just…. I half expected her to yell at me, or reveal her plans….
I thought she’d behave like most other hunters, and rant about how much she hates us…
Either I’m wrong or she’s *good*….
“She’s right.” Said Ronitus clearly, but a little lower than his normal speaking volume.
“Son, I think that should at least warrant the lifting of the bounty the way it is.” Said mom. She tried to tempt me to pardon him.
It *was* tempting. I don’t *want* to do this…
But I’ve also gone too far…. This *must* be done…
