Chapter 24 Shame, Inescapable

Elena wrinkled her brow with disgust. These clothes must have been worn by his previous girlfriends, right?
Noura understood the disdain in Elena's eyes and smiled.
"Miss Walker, these new clothes are brand new, no one has worn them before. Look, the price tags are still intact." Elena glanced lightly and indeed, there were price tags. However, the numbers on the tags surprised Elena. There were so many zeros followed by a dollar sign, even a fool could understand. This man had an unimaginable amount of money.
Elena wasn't picky to begin with. She just wanted to leave here quickly and randomly picked a few well-fitting clothes to put on.
"Miss Walker, we also have shoes here. Take a look and see if there's anything you like."
Noura opened a cabinet with ten rows, each row showcasing six pairs of beautiful and fashionable women's shoes.
Seeing Elena's indifference, Noura pressed a button, and the shoe cabinet rolled slowly like an elevator.
More beautiful shoes were displayed.
"Miss Walker, these crystal high heels with diamonds match your silk dress."
Noura had a good eye, but Elena didn't appreciate it. She directly chose a pair of wedge shoes, hurriedly put them on, and came out.
On the bedside table were Elena's cellphone and an amethyst necklace. She reached out and held everything tightly in her palm.
There was a thorn in her heart, making her feel a sharp pain.
If it wasn't for this necklace, she wouldn't have come here.
If she hadn't come here, she wouldn't have been violated by him.
"Where are you going, Miss Walker?"
Carrying her skirt, Elena ran downstairs while Noura hurriedly followed her every step.
Elena stopped and glared at her fiercely. Excitedly, she said, "What's it to you? Tell that scum Hassan that I won't let him off. I will sue him. I must sue him."
This was a society that valued the law.
She would return the humiliation he had imposed on her today a hundredfold.
The crowded streets were now lit up with colorful neon lights, embellishing the enchanting night.
Elena walked aimlessly among the crowd.
The feeling of loss isolated her from this world, making her feel lonely, cold, and suffocated.
She had to sue him, she must sue him!
"Here, a gift for you. Do you like it?"
In front of her, there was a young couple. The boy held a bouquet of white lilies and gave it to the girl beside him.
The girl held the lilies, her face filled with shy happiness, but she still stubbornly said, "I don't like lilies. They're so ugly."
"Hehe, then what do you like? I'll go buy it."
"So annoying, I hate you. You made me wait for half an hour."
"I'm sorry, darling. I won't be late again next time."
The laughter of lovers gradually faded away as the two figures merged into one.
Elena watched them blankly.
Looking at her phone, it had already run out of battery and automatically shut down.
What should she do now? Should she tell William about it?
Would he help her?
Or would he reject her?
Anxious and hesitant, Elena picked up the public phone on the street and dialed William's number.
Only by finding him would she feel a little more at ease.
"William..."
Before Elena could finish her sentence, she heard a girl's laughter from the other end of the phone.
"Who are you? What do you want from Brother William at this late hour?"
Chloe's arrogant voice, with a hint of satisfaction, echoed in the phone.
Elena was shocked!
At that time, William should be waiting for her at the Rose Garden, even though it had been two hours since the agreed time. But he had promised not to stand her up.
"Chloe, please give the phone back to William. I have something to talk to him about."
Elena bit her lip and said seriously.
"Talk to him? He is not available to take the call now... um, call back later!"
Chloe said with a meaningful tone.
"Why?" Elena's heart started to feel uneasy.
"He, he is... why are you so nosy? Fine, I'll call him."
Chloe muttered to herself then shouted, "Brother William, your phone!"
"I'll answer after I finish showering." William's familiar voice came through the phone, accompanied by the sound of running water.
Elena was confused.
Clearly, he wasn't at the Rose Garden. It was almost midnight, and he was with Chloe? Taking a shower?
Before today, Elena would never have understood the meaning of taking a shower.
But after experiencing the pain today, she understood very well what it meant when a man and a woman were together late at night, taking a shower.
"Do you hear that? Brother William said to call back tomorrow!"
Chloe said arrogantly.
"Oh, I actually have nothing to say. Goodbye!"
Disappointed, Elena hung up the phone, walking aimlessly towards the center of the road as if her soul had left her.
Meanwhile, in Mayo Clinic's doctor's office.
Chloe sat calmly in a chair, smiling as she watched William wash his hands, change out of his white coat, and put on a suit.
She obediently handed him the phone.
"Just now, a girl called."
William was startled and picked up the phone to take a glance. It was an unfamiliar number. Without hesitation, he immediately called it back.
After a while, someone finally answered the phone.
"Hello, can I speak to Elena?"
"Oh, Elena? This is the public telephone booth at 147 East Street! I just happened to be passing by, I don't know who you are looking for."
"Did you see a girl passing by here earlier?"
"Yes, there were several tens of them. I don't know which one you're looking for."
"Oh, never mind then!"
Feeling extremely disappointed, William hung up the phone and turned to ask Chloe, "Who was calling?"
Chloe smirked cunningly. "I don't know, I couldn't tell. The background noise was too loud. I asked who it was, but she wouldn't say. I told her to call back later. Don't worry, William, if it's urgent, she will definitely call again."
She wasn't that foolish, actually, she had recognized Elena's voice early on.
She wouldn't give Elena any chances at all!
"Well, nevermind. By the way, you mentioned earlier that your dad isn't feeling well? How about you have him come to the hospital for a check-up?"
"William, why don't you come to my house instead? It's only a twenty-minute drive. My dad absolutely refuses to come, I even wore out my lips trying to persuade him. He says he doesn't like the smell of hospitals." Chloe smiled shrewdly.
"Well, alright then. Let's hurry up and go!"
William quickly tidied up a bit and left the hospital.
He waited at the rose garden for over two hours and didn't see a trace of Elena. Then, he received an urgent call from the hospital and hastily rushed back.
On the way to Chloe's family's house, he tried calling Elena's phone several times, but all he got was the sound of it being turned off.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Chloe calmly observed everything, feeling very content.
'Elena, you wretched woman, you still want to steal my man? That's not even an option.'
In the girls' dormitory, Evelyn was reading a book.
Suddenly, with a thud, the door was forcefully pushed open and Elena stumbled in, swiftly closing the door behind her.
Evelyn dropped the book in her hands and looked at Elena, who seemed dazed. She shouted in astonishment.
"E-E-Elena, w-what's wrong with you?"
Elena pushed Evelyn aside and pulled the blanket over her face.
"Elena, are you sick? Why is your face so pale?"
Evelyn pulled away the blanket, watching Elena's painful expression. "Evelyn, I'm so tired! Can you let me sleep for a while, please?"
"Oh oh," Evelyn exclaimed, putting down her blanket and murmuring, "By the way, that senior William called earlier asking about your whereabouts. Did you two have a fight?"
Elena's heart clenched in pain, fearing that he wouldn't even give her the chance to argue!
"Evelyn, can you please not disturb me? I'm really tired and sleepy..."
Elena's voice sounded pitiful, and Evelyn dared not bother her anymore, so she tucked herself into her own bed.
"Alright, go to sleep. If there's anything you need, please let me know!"
Elena responded faintly with an "Mhm," and then there was no sound.
