Chapter 43 Watching the Meteor Shower Together
It's William Spencer's birthday today!!!
Elena was taken aback, although the message didn't have a signature, she quickly understood.
Indeed, today was William's birthday, and she almost forgot.
Elena hurriedly grabbed her phone and started running.
"I'm going to school!"
"Miss Walker, let me drive you there..."
Noura rushed out urgently and Elena stopped, and gave Noura's shoulder a pat with an embarrassed smile.
"Noura, to be honest, since the first moment I saw you, I've seen you as a big sister. I think you're a good person, really. I have an indescribable fondness for you..."
Upon hearing Elena's praise, a slight shyness flashed in Noura's eyes. She lost her usual composure and seemed a bit uneasy.
"I know that Hassan is very domineering. He actually wanted you to follow me, didn't he?"
"Miss Walker..."
Noura suddenly realized that Miss Walker wasn't as naive as she appeared on the surface. She was quite clever deep down.
"Sorry, but I really can't let you drive me to school. If your luxury car stops outside my school, can you imagine how other students would look at me? They might think I'm a mistress... You know, I only signed a hundred-day contract with your master. When the contract is over, I have to go back to my own life, right? So please don't drive me. Don't worry, I'm a grown-up, I can ride a bicycle, and I don't need your help."
Elena's explanation was reasonable. Noura suddenly suggested, "How about this? I'll drive Miss Walker to the vicinity of the school, and then wait there. When you need me, just give me a call. Does that work?"
Seeing that Noura had already compromised, Elena didn't want to dwell on it any longer.
In the end, Noura only drove Elena to the front of the Trade Building. Elena then got off and took a bus. It took her four stops to reach the school.
In the morning, they had a practical class where the whole class was divided into several groups to take turns practicing acupuncture.
Elena had already mastered this technique and had no interest in it, so she directly grabbed Evelyn's hand and went out.
"It's William's birthday today. What do you think I should give him?"
"Really? Are you planning to reconcile with him?" Evelyn exclaimed excitedly.
Elena gave her a disdainful look. "What's with your excitement? Reconciliation or not, after all these years, we're still friends. Celebrating his birthday with him is no big deal."
"What's his zodiac sign?"
"He's a Leo!"
"Leo men are the best for boyfriends. They're romantic, considerate, and handsome... How about this, give him a zodiac crystal! Elena, didn't you mention that he loves crystals?" Evelyn said excitedly.
Elena chuckled awkwardly. "You have a good memory, after all, it's been three years..."
"I remember the past so clearly, but you don't seem to care about me that much, do you?"
Evelyn bumped into Elena and blinked her eyes, while shyly imitating William's expression.
"Elena, do you know why I like crystals? Because they're pure and clean, just like your eyes. Through your eyes, I can see your pure heart..."
"Enough!" Elena interrupted Evelyn's words. These were words William said to her three years ago, but why did they sound so melancholic now?
The words "pure" and "clean" sounded so harsh.
"Evelyn, come with me to buy a gift!"
Elena had a pale expression, but Evelyn was very excited, feeling like it was her own birthday.
After ordering a birthday cake, the two went to choose a Leo constellation crystal in the gift shop.
"Elena, where are you going to celebrate his birthday?"
"He said the observatory..."
"The observatory? Up on Flower Hill? That's far. Isn't he going to pick you up in his car?"
"He doesn't need to pick me up. It wouldn't mean anything if he did."
Elena immersed herself in her happy anticipation, gently stroking the Leo constellation on the crystal, feeling both excited and expectant. Even though they couldn't be lovers anymore, being friends was also good. At least they could still see each other.
After picking a gift and wrapping it, Evelyn suddenly asked Elena, "Elena, do you have any plans to be with William in your heart?"
Elena paused for a moment and shook her head. "I'm not worthy of him. We're just ordinary friends. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I was just thinking, since you rejected him. Soon he will have a girlfriend, and if you continue to get close to him, his girlfriend might mind!" Evelyn hinted meaningfully.
William was handsome and refined, with an elegant temperament. Many female classmates in school were thinking of ways to intern at Mayo Clinic just to have a chance to see William more. Men like him, handsome, wealthy, and talented, were admired by many girls.
If Elena kept rejecting him like this, William might accept the pursuit of other girls.
Elena shrugged. "It doesn't matter. Anyway... let's see after this birthday!"
"Oh, by the way, William senior seems to like almond candy. I'll go buy some more..."
After shopping with Evelyn for nearly two hours, Elena bought a bunch of things. Seeing that it was still early, the two sat in McDonald's for a while.
It was until it was almost dark, that Elena took a taxi alone to Flower Hill.
At this moment, Noura was still waiting for Elena after school. She had been waiting for a long time, and it was already 6 p.m., but Elena hadn't come back yet.
Noura went to school and inquired at the security gate. The result was that Elena had already left school in the afternoon. She hurriedly rushed back, and on the way, Hassan called.
"Prepare everything for Elena before 9 o'clock tonight. I'll pick her up at home," Hassan said.
"I'm sorry, master, but Miss Walker is missing," Noura apologized.
"What?" Hassan exclaimed angrily.
"I'm sorry, master. Miss Walker went to school today and then secretly sneaked away. I'm still looking for her..." Noura explained.
"Listen, I must see her before nine o'clock," Hassan's tone was filled with a storm of anger.
"Yes, master, I'll search carefully," Noura replied.
Noura took a deep breath after hanging up the phone. Her master was acting unusually today. Why did he have to see her before nine o'clock? But she didn't have time to dwell on it. As a servant, she wasn't qualified to question her master's orders.
When the taxi was about two kilometers away from Flower Hill, it couldn't go any further. This road connected Flower Hill to a mountain road that led directly to the observatory on the mountaintop. Normally, there weren't many people passing through here, but for some reason, the intersection was completely blocked today, with cars in front and behind, as far as the eye could see.
As time passed, Elena grew extremely anxious. "Driver, why is there so much traffic here today?" she asked curiously.
"Oh, young lady, you don't know?" The driver looked surprised and shook his head at Elena's confused expression. "Seeing you come here with so many things, I thought you knew. There's a once-in-a-century meteor shower tonight at half-past nine, and many young people have come here to make wishes."
The driver laughed heartily and said, "Looking at you like this, you must be here for a romantic date with your boyfriend! You young people know how to have fun!"
A meteor shower!! A glimmer of excitement flashed in Elena's heart. William actually invited her to watch the meteor shower.
"William, is it true that wishing upon a shooting star will come true?" Elena asked.
"Well, of course! Do you have a wish you want to make?" William replied.
"Yes, I do. I hope my father's illness will get better if I can see the meteor shower."
"Silly girl, shooting stars are a rare occurrence. But I promise you, I will take you to see them in the future."
"Yeah, that sounds great!"
Elena felt like she had travelled back in time and saw herself from three years ago, standing foolishly in front of William, with an innocent smile on her face. Although life was tough back then, with William by her side, she didn't lose faith in life and even had beautiful fantasies about the future.
She was even happier at that time than now, with pure happiness.
"Little girl, I suggest you walk there. Judging by the traffic jam, it won't be cleared before half-past nine... Let me tell you, there's a shortcut this way."
"You can go straight to the astronomical observatory, and you will find your boyfriend there. Go together and you won't miss the meteor shower," the driver roughly pointed the way.
"Okay, thank you, sir!"
Elena got out of the taxi and started walking forward. Along the way, she saw pairs of couples with young smiling faces. Despite the traffic jam, everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Conversations about the meteor shower filled the air.
Elena had a happy smile on her face as she left the city lights far behind. In this moment, she had no other worries and was wholeheartedly focused on watching the meteor shower with William.
After following the driver's instructions and taking a shortcut up the mountain, Elena arrived at the astronomical observatory. It was already packed with people. Some early birds had prepared their camera equipment, while others held chairs to secure their spots. Even the slightly better spots on the larger rocks were occupied.
With a large bag in her hand, Elena was covered in sweat and anxiously looked around the perimeter but couldn't spot William.
Just as she was about to take out her phone to call, she suddenly heard a familiar voice.
"William, my feet are so sore. Can you give me a massage?"
Elena abruptly turned around and saw a familiar figure standing in the front row of the observatory. Chloe wore a light yellow dress and looked like a beautiful princess under the moonlight. She sat on a chair, giggling and gazing at William, who squatted down to massage her feet...
This heartwarming scene struck Elena like a thunderbolt on a clear day.
